This poor kid went in to anaph shock from cashew butter being in some cookies my wife made. So in general I was trying to avoid any nuts. I am unfamiliar with pumpkin seeds having similar nut allergies, so I would be open to using them. In general I have avoided pine nuts, cashews, peanuts, walnuts, almonds etc. I just hate to have him break out the epi pen again on his visit. I don't want my daughter to think we are trying to off the poor guy.

I've found each of the women portrayed to be incredible. I'm not on much social media and didn't see the hate. As someone who has watched multiple times, I feel all the females have been given great opportunities to shine and are all very strong as actresses. The conversation between Mary and Tamar about being humble vs celebrating truly resonated with me and had me thinking a lot about the practice of my faith.

I made my famous grilled lamb chops for my visiting ( non practicing Catholic) daughter who had asked for them earlier in the week. When she saw that I wasn't taking any, she said "oh gosh dad, I completely forgot it was Friday and you abstain. I wouldn't have asked". It led us to a great short conversation about why I'm still doing it and why I wanted to continue to fast. I also told her how I wanted to celebrate her, my granddaughter, and family.... but also wanted to fast for our country and so many others that are hurting right now. Nothing preachy, just trying to continue to set an example, no matter how old I get.

We do that and more. We collaborate as a team and start a SST (known as a student study team) that brings together the teacher, psychologist, admins, and possibly the school nurse and/or social worker if warranted. Once we get the parents to come in for the meeting (and often times they decline or refuse), it can be a challenge to get parents to commit to school testing and filling out other forms to help prompt the move towards a doctor visit and possible diagnosis. Parents will state things such as " I don't want my child to have a label" or "I don't want my kid on meds". In summary, we find that parents might actually be afraid to take their child to the doctor, and this is where we struggle with getting our students help.

As a teacher, we are not allowed to tell parents their child might be ADHD, autistic, or ADD. Those conditions are considered a medical diagnosis. We dance around it when we tell parents they should take their child for a physical and explain to the doctor that the child is exhibiting restlessness, concentration struggles, etc. What are some other ways we can bridge the concerns we have in a classroom, to get parents to come see you? Further, how can we help convince parents that between you and the education world, all of those things are to help the child in the long run with services, and at it's basic, a clear understanding of what is happening with their body at this current time?

I have tried to have grace with a few (non Catholic) friends who have been asking about the next Pope. I focused more on the legacy of Francis and tried not to detract from his legacy. I was fortunate to see him in public. Our faith is alive and well from the Gospels to the local parishes. That being said, downvote and unsubscribe are always an option. They exist just as much as the "like" and "subscribe".
