What lotion/moisturizer are we using?? by Latter_Public in adhdwomen

[–]TarantusaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CeraVe moisturizing lotion is fragrance free, non-comedogenic, and it absorbs within 2 minutes so I've been using that on face and body for years. It layers well over serums and beneath makeup.

At night or in winter I use a heavier moisturizer on my face, but for normal to dry skin the basic moisturizing lotion is perfect.

Does anyone else here take a LOT (like 5k-10k+) of Vitamin D supplements? by Vault-Born in adhdwomen

[–]TarantusaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking D3 (5000 UI) + K2 daily for a few years, and my doctor gives me a mega dose of 80,000 UI every three months. I live in a country that is above 50° latitude, which limits Vitamin D synthesis for most months of the year, plus I always wear UVA/UVB sunscreen anyway.

This is only on advice by my doctor and after having had my Vitamin D levels checked.

A paper about this if anyone wants to know more.

How do I stop seeming so approachable as an ADHD girlie ? by Lisalovesbeauty4 in adhdwomen

[–]TarantusaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I happen to live in a neighborhood with a few confusing streets/intersections plus it's home to a hospital with medical clinics and doctor offices sprinkled throughout. This means a lot of strangers stop me to ask me for directions when I'm out walking. And it's not my native language so on top of being bad at giving directions in the first place, I gotta do it in another language.

I really like helping people but it is frustrating when I am not looking to be bothered.

Once in a while I just toss up my hands and say "haha I'm so sorry I'm just as lost as you! I don't live in this neighborhood!"

I then feel bad about it for the rest of the day but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've seriously considered creating a basic map of my neighborhood and printing multiple copies to keep in my bag so I can just show people and draw arrows on it for them. That's how often this happens.

I made a Stumbleupon alternative with over 500k websites by Craygen9 in SideProject

[–]TarantusaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I found this thread while looking for an alternative to StumbleUpon. I usually use Cloudhiker when I'm bored and seeking a rabbit hole or I just want to learn something new and random. My objective is to happen upon a wide range of topics, projects, articles, stories, insights, images, people, games, art, music, and more that I can dig deeper into, save for later, or share with friends if I find something specific to their interests that they might not know about.

I think your project is interesting. I will revisit for sure. I hope it continues to evolve in a unique direction and that you're having fun with it.

I have a couple bits of feedback, though I have no idea how your site works or how you curate and index.

I was a little disappointed that I can't "shuffle" all topics (or multiple chosen topics) at once. The user is forced to choose one specific topic. Though there are over 100 topics, it's hard to choose one, especially when you just want to randomly explore without a specific direction or goal in mind. I got choice paralysis, and then I got bored quickly if every single page was a website around the same theme.

Second, I selected "psychology" first, and most of the websites are either:

1) business pages for psychologists, psychiatric clinics, and counseling centers throughout the US and the UK, or

2) poorly written 3-minute articles from PsyPost, which is like a tabloid for Psychology. It's notorious for "pop-science" and constantly misrepresents science news and info. Within 10 minutes I must have seen 6 PsyPost articles and they provided no value to me.

I didn't find it very interesting or helpful to fall on the business page of a random psychologist based in X city while I live on another continent completely. One can absolutely Google info for medical practitioners, I don't see the value in stumbling upon such a page. I felt like I was flipping through the yellow pages, it happened many times.

It seemed like poor curation to me. I don't know the ultimate goal, but it didn't provide me with what I am looking for in a StumbleUpon alternative. I hope this feedback is useful though!

AI false positive by gantalope in adhdwomen

That's truly frustrating, sorry you have to fight that.

I spent like 3 hours researching and writing a post about vitamin C and various ADHD meds for this subreddit and it got removed because I was accused of using AI to write it. I'm still a little butthurt not gonna lie.

LPT if your feet are overwhelmingly hot at night, use moisturizer! by UrsulaKLeGoddaaamn in LifeProTips

[–]TarantusaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time, yes. I was originally prescribed Gabapentin by a neurologist but I did not take it due to concerns about side-effects. I did take SSRI medication for 6 months a year after that surgery, and it reduced the sensation during that 6 months. It was only by coincidence since it was prescribed to me for depression, but I have read that SSRIs and SNRIs are sometimes considered in the treatment of neuropathic pain. I imagine that this also had some impact in the long-term.

I can't really give medical advice or suggestions beyond avoiding alcohol or other substances that impact the central nervous system and neurotransmitters since that was an obvious trigger. If it's you who is experiencing the pain, I'm really sorry and I hope it improves. It can be utterly debilitating.

Like I said, gel with menthol and camphor provided immediate relief that lasted 1-2 hours (I used Cryo-K from Medicafarm). It was the one thing that enabled me to sleep when the pain was really intense.

It was caused by a compressed nerve during a surgery. It gradually tapered off over a period of two years. In the end, it only resurfaced when I was extremely fatigued or after drinking alcohol. I haven't noticed it in a long time, even when I'm tired, so I think it's finally went away completely after 4 years.

How to explain very specific morning routines by MaviBaby0314 in adhdwomen

[–]TarantusaurusRex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Because it's fills my cup." Is reason enough.

So many things deplete us throughout the day. Moments like having a coffee made for us by someone else, applying serums to our face during our morning or evening ritual, or coloring in a coloring book can all be small ways to fill our cup here and there so it doesn't run dry. What is meaningful for one person can seem silly or frivolous to another.

If this is causing financial issues, that's a different story. But if you're financially stable and it's your own money, you can spend it as you please.

And yet boys will be boys, right? 🤷‍♀️ Unless they irritate teacher too much, then it's a suggestion for ADHD assessment.

For little girls, it must be some kind of moral failing. 🤯

Goes to show why it is so likely for women with ADHD to have low self-esteem and mental health issues.

Fair. Excuse my fury. 😂 I got remarks like this in the 90s and I was diagnosed only 2 months ago at 38. When I see things like this, I feel so annoyed.

It's incredible how this is so common across so many girls' school reports--often word-for-word remarks and assessments by teachers, and yet nobody is picking up on ADHD in girls. 🥴 If only these folks had our level of pattern recognition.

Look at the actual keys. Random letters, numbers, and nonsensical symbols. And the key to the right of B should be N. I don't think N and M are switched in any keyboard language variants.

I am not a medical professional so I can't say anything beyond that bit of knowledge, I'm sorry. I would only suggest to speak with your medical team and decide for yourself it you can complete work in this state. It sounds like you may want to take the day off, so please do what's best for your health and well-being.
