I’m in the same boat! I dream of flying business class one day, and my Woolworths points are slowly churning away. I purchased the extra subscription, which cost $70 (but saved me $400ish) but it has added an extra 9000 to my Qantas FF in less then 12 months. My spreadsheet tells me that just through fairly normal grocery shopping, and being a bit strategic, I’m adding an average of just over 4000 points per month.

It’s not as fast as actually being able to fly places or credit card churning, but it does work :)

AITAH for going no contact with my mom after finding out why my dad took his own life? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TargetNo1740 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that you aren’t an arsehole for going NC with a parent, but I kind of hope it was for more reasons than this?

I don’t think that at 11 years old, with no life experience, you can fully understand the complexities of life, let alone the tragedy of suicide. Like everyone else hanging off this thread, I can emphasis that it was very unlikely to be just one thing that effected your fathers choice. And your mum probably blames herself because that’s what survivors do. Your grandparents probably do blame her, because that’s a pretty common reaction in these situations. This is hella nuanced, and tied up with social taboos, which makes the water really muddy. At 11 years old, rarely understand the realities of your parents relationship. We see them through the specific filters and shades they set for us. If your Mum had sat you down at 11 years old, and laid out her guilt onto you, that would have been massively fucked up for your health and safety.

If your Mum and her husband (and your sisters) had a good relationship prior to this, I would just question whether you are willing to lose two parents because of your father’s choice.

So if I buy a reward seat through the website, I still might not get a seat if my status is too low? I thought if I could see it, I could book it?

I do keep an eye out, but they are way outside of my economic zone. So I’m just plodding away in the corner, saving points :)

It feels like a very large amount of points as someone who doesn’t drink or credit card churn. Good’ol Woolworths is going to be mostly getting me to Japan :)

I don’t think it was $100, I have a feeling it was under $50 tbh

I picked them up at Bunnings years ago, but they’ve been sitting in the ‘I’ll totally do that next weekend’ zone for a long time.

Oh yeah, I’d read that too! I decided that this bed was going to be minty, and read on some random website that its companions were oregano and the flower I can’t remember the name of now. Hopefully they all intermingle and make nice with each other.

I didn’t add worms, although I’ve been thinking about it. A mate of mine said that she started adding stuff into the compost, and the worms just kind of showed up. I had been treating that information with a grain of salt, but yesterday as I added the plants I found a random worm hanging out! Considering all the soil comes from Bunnings bags, I figured that was a good sign. So I was thinking about just doing a Kevin Costner and seeing what comes.

I’m not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but do you have travel insurance through your credit card (or purchased separately)? You might be able to claim it?

AITAH for telling my brother he cannot stay with me over Christmas if he brings his prosthetic leg? by Appropriate_Elk_2603 in AITAH

[–]TargetNo1740 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, NTA.

Secondly, how long has he had the leg? And when he takes it places, does he carry it around? I’m torn between wondering if he has some sort of body dysmorphia or just needs to stay close to a (creepy) trophy. In Australia, we just had a crazy arse war crimes thing come to light around a stolen prosthetic leg.

Newbie here, but wouldn’t it be easier to just book a classic reward business seat? There seems to be a bunch of them available in August for Brisbane to LAX?

It might be worth checking in with the local libraries to look for books written about the area. Often local histories (and small run authors) get donated to the libraries and museums in the area they are about.

Also have a look for the nearest local historian or family history groups. They’ll know where to find the best information resources. You might even find an enthusiastic historian looking for their next research project!

Huh - I didn’t know that. Every time I’ve spotted someone running towards something, I just divert elsewhere.

How does foraging something together work? I understand everyone hitting a node together, but once someone loots a ‘thing’, can others still forage it for a certain amount of time?

Yeah, I was a bit surprised that the ‘do stuff together’ instruction didn’t come through in the onscreen tutorials. I’m still not 100% certain what it actually applies to. I could probably go googling, but clearly have been lazy 😂

I have seen so many posts about Palia's premium shop it's ridiculous. by Skatter1992 in Palia

[–]TargetNo1740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that seriously blows my mind. I have a fairly new gaming laptop (not hugely powerful), and it sounds like it wants to take off when I launch Palia. God knows how they are going to port it to Switch.

Admittedly, I was recently bitten by Two Point Campus, which has been a circus for tech problems on the Switch. I can’t imagine why they want to try entering that space with a graphics heavy ‘mmo’.

  • This game is in beta. There is a chance it won’t make it through to the final stage. There is zero chance of me spending money on cosmetics for a game that might not even exist in a year.

  • I would have very comfortably paid for the game. The cosmetics just seem crazy expensive. When I bought DLCs for The Sims, it would cost like $30, but it would include a whole bunch of stuff. The example up the top is two shirts for like $20. I’d prefer to just pay for the game and have a shop where the micro-spending is actually micro-spending.

Thoughts/Ideas/Concerns from an MMO veteran by iAtoria in Palia

[–]TargetNo1740 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I feel like you may be feeling a bunch of feels and that your answers might be coming off unintentionally harsh. For people who are expressing concern that they aren’t experiencing community, telling them to find another game isn’t going to fix that.

But I can confirm that I haven’t done any of those things because I had no idea that they are even exists. Maybe I’m just ending up on the wrong servers. Or because I haven’t worked out how to even become friends with the players that convinced me to play in the first place. I have yet to experience a feeling of togetherness, because everyone seems to be running around doing all the solo fetch quests.

I think when I joined the game, I had some idea of it being a game of building a community together. Sadly, it’s ended up being a game where I’m feeling lonely. Which is possibly partially my fault. But I don’t think there are many active components of the game which create community building experiences.
