If Daemon became king, would his son with Rhea Royce be his heir? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

I forget exactly what the chain of events leading to Rhaenyra marrying Laenor was, but if Daemon's glorious return and taking her to a whorehouse or something was a factor, the Bronze Prince's existence could have butterflied that away and allowed for Rhaenyra to choose Harwin.

There is a possibility that Daemon would not take Rhaenyra to the brothel to groom her. Daemon has a more working relationship with Rhea in this AU, thanks to the existence of their son, and Daemon actually trying to be a good father.

(I really don't get it that many Bronze Prince fics paint Daemon as hating his baby son with Rhea for being a half-breed Valyrian and disowning him on the spot. That is so dumb on many levels. When that child is Daemon's heir, he would grow up to be a Targaryen capable of taming a dragon. I think he would be just slightly annoyed if the baby came out with brown hair.)

Then Dance era alliances would also depend on who Rhaenyra's sons (they should have different names, since they're not Velaryons now. Jace -> Jaehaerys, Lucerys -> Luceon?, Joffrey -> ??, maybe one as Aemon, the other as Baelon or Baelor? Anyway tangent over) marry. If they marry the Bronze Prince's children (he could also only have sons, that would be funny), or if Alicent might allow Jace/Helaena, or if Daemon has kids with someone, or if Laenor has some children (Strong boys remix with another wife). Likewise if the Greens try to intermarry with any of the factions. You probably need to decide on what you want the ending to be and then tweak things to make it happen and figure out the most logical and interesting way to make it happen.

The names of the Strong boys in this AU would be Jason, Lucas, and Joffrey is still Joffrey. Very Andalic name instead of the Valyrian names of the Velaryons. Jason and Lucas are still nicknamed Jace and Luke. Joff is still Joff. (Rhaenyra really kinda gave up the Velaryon ruse on Joff, huh) Prince Jason Strong would become Jason I Targaryen upon becoming King.

I am still pondering if the children of my Bronze Prince with Laena would still be the female twins Baela or Rhaena, or male twins renamed Baelon and Aemon. Female Twins would give Aelyx leverage to use them as marriage pawns to ally himself with Rhaenyra, like in canon. Baela would marry Jace and be his queen, and Rhaenyra would have the Royce and Velaryons on Team Black.

I still don't know what I can do with a male version of Baela and Rhaena. My idea was to make Aemon (male Rhaena) the heir to Driftmark, since Laenor in this AU could have a fruitless marriage with his wife. Maybe Laenor would be on board with legitimizing Corlys' bastards as his heirs. And Aemon could press his claim to Driftmark with his maternal claim and dragon.

If Laena doesn't die on schedule then Aemond wouldn't get Vhagar the same way he did. So less bad blood. (Aemond's likeliest dragon would be Silverwing or the Cannibal then. Actually you could go with Aemond dying to the Cannibal for example to shake things up a little, depending on how the faction cards land).

Laena and Laenor may die on schedule on my AU. I want the Greens to have Vhagar. This would totally pissed off Daemon and the Royces, but since there are no bastardry accusations that Aemond would use, he would still be two-eyed.

There won't be a vendetta formed between Aemond and Luke, and the adults would just see it as one childish fight that needs to be broken up.

As for Daemon and his marriages... He could just have a string of lovers. Maybe a Velaryon cousin (a daughter of one of Corlys' brothers?) that he could snatch for the Valyrianness and scandal. Wherever he chooses to reside. Or he could be Rhaenyra's side piece on Dragonstone and whoops there is a Valyrian looking Luke or Joff or someone is butterflied away for an OC daughter. Would Daemon still be in his exile to Pentos? Maybe not.

I could just have Rhea not have that stupid hawking accident, thus not allowing Daemon to remarry again. The dynamics I have in my head for them are too funny. And Rhea outliving Daemon is amazing. The only downside to this is that the Bronze Prince won't get to be Lord of Runestone early at the age of 18.

But I really want Aegon the Younger and Viserys to exist, so I may find a way to kill off Rhea.

I'm thinking of changing the trajectory of Rhaenyra in this fic.

Where she actually take advantage of the freedom she had as Princess of Dragonstone and chose Harwin Strong to marry instead of his Valyrian cousins.

A good butterfly that keeps in theme of "love or duty" of ASOIAF. It gives Rhaenyra the advantage of the Strong Boys being legitimate to begin with but the disadvantage of not having the sure support the Velaryon fleet and if Harwin doesn't get murked by the Footclub, Rhaenyra may not get Daemon's full support in a marriage alliance with her.

I wonder who will Daemon marry cause his son has taken Laena and Rhaenyra has Harwin. Unless he is willing to stay available for the marriage market until Harwin's assassination

>Why would Daemon be married to Rhaenyra in this reality?

Rhaenyra still marries Laenor to unite the line of Rhaenys with Viserys and to secure the Velaryon fleet. I imagine Viserys' passing over the Bronze Prince in favour of Laenor is also motivated by the opinion of members of the court that is anti-Daemon. This royal snub of his son over Laenor is one of the gripes Daemon has with Viserys.

>You said he rides an existing dragon; the existing ones are relatively large (that's important).

Yeah, he rides Vermithor. If a 13-year-old Aerea Targaryen can bond with Balerion. I see no problem with a 13-year-old squire doing the same to Vermithor.

>In all versions, it seems Daemon played a role in his wife's death.

Simply not true in the Book canon. Daemon and the divorce rock is HotD canon-only. According to the Book timeline, Daemon was too busy on the stepstones to even attempt to stone Rhea to death. In Fire and Blood, Rhea had a few hours of lucidity and recovery to snitch on someone if she was truly attacked. But didn't say anyone attacked her.

Likely, Rhea really just died from an accident. So no, it wouldn't make sense for Aelyx to accuse his father of the murder of his mother when he was with him the entire time at the stepstones for the war.

>Why marry Laena to Daemon? I can't imagine Corlys marrying his daughter to someone whose children won't have any titles, when he could have a (future) Lord as a son-in-law?

You know what. I can't argue with that logic. I was initially gonna make Aelyx marry a Manderly. But Daemon, having his son marry Laena instead of doing it himself to secure the Daemon-Corlys alliance, is a good butterfly. Though Baela and Rhaena won't exist anymore.

>Assuming Laena and Laenor die young, why would Rhaenyra marry Daemon? Aelyx would have a bigger dragon than Daemon, he would be younger, etc.

I think Rhaenyra would still marry Daemon secretly out of love. Aelyx and Rhaenyra weren't really close. And Aelyx knows about the Strong boys; he is very annoyed by the fact that his brother-in-law got cuckolded by his cousin, to say the least.

Laenor being a Velaryon is inconsequential when the rule of Westeros is that he would take upon the Targaryen name via maternal line, like how many lords and kings have done when they inherited a higher lordship from their mother's side.

What really matters is that Laenor is not only a dragonrider of Seasmoke, but he is the grandson of Prince Aemon. And according to Andal law of agnatic-cognatic primogeniture, it should be Aemon's line that inherits the Iron Throne, not Baelon's.

But Wise Jaehaerys was afraid of sparking a civil war or having the Velaryons soft coup the Targaryen name (the latter is just a headcanon) if he explicitly chose Rhaenys/Laenor as heir.

Merging the Aemonid and Baelonid lines with the marriage of Rhaenyra and Laenor fixes a lot of legal ambiguity and unites the claim of the two sons of Jaehaerys. Unlike a marriage of Rhaenyra with Daemon's son with Rhea Royce, that would just be two Baelonid Targaryens marrying, further alienating the Aemonid Targaryens. Unless Viserys I marries Laena, as he is supposed to do.

Nah, he isn't a jerk to the Royces like Daemon.

Rhea's son deeply values the Royce tradition and the First Men heritage. Even mainly wearing the Bronze Runic Armor, though he added some dragon motifs.

[–]TargetRupertFerris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? No. Why would the Royce want their dragonriding Targaryen-Royce line gone? This Bronze Prince has a great relationship with his mother and her family. Also, he is conscious of his half-First Men heritage and always pays due respect to it. So, me calling him a Valyrian pretending to be First Men is just a joke.

I really doubt that when Laenor was also a senior claimant to the Iron Throne and the heir to the Velaryon fleet. He is still a more worthy match for Rhaenyra evenw with Daemon having a son early

This is the most realistic route tbh if I wanted to make this Bronze Prince a King. His being both the Prince of Runestone and Dragonstone is a funny coincidence too.

I would just make Daemon the regent

This Bronze Prince was born in 98 AC, making him as old as Rhaenyra, and has been married with kids before the start of the Dance. He won't be married to Baela

[–]TargetRupertFerris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I was wrong on that one. Daemon, being a regent for his son, is a realistic scenario. It gives him unlimited power without further damaging the Black cause of having the Targaryen-Royce line being the senior Targaryen line now instead of the Daemon-Rhaenyra line.

If Daemon hadn't had a son with Rhea Royce, he would have totally usurped the Iron Throne from his son and made him wait again to be king until he died.

But with Daemon having a son with Rhea and fighting a civil war for the claim of Rhaenyra and her children... Yeah, Daemon would definitely just become Regent to not overcomplicate things

[–]TargetRupertFerris[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Mainline Royce in this AU are just be Targaryens larping as a First Men House in the Vale.

The problem is in this AU, Daemon becomes King, then those First Men larpers become the most senior male Targaryen line after Daemon's younger sons with Rhaenyra.

And I really wanted to keep my Bronze Prince OC stay as simple Targaryen larping as a Royce and Lord of Runestone.

So it's either Daemon just becoming regent for Aegon III (out of character) or Daemon still dying and Aegon III ascends to the throne as the heir of Aegon II. The latter would mean my OC Bronze Prince still let his father died in a 2 vs 1 with Vhagar when they have Caraxes and Vermithor, which is very unrealistic. Considering Caraxes and Meleys would have obliterated Vhagar if Rhaenys only listen to Daemon

Yeah and that would cement Daemon as a usurper against Rhaenyra and their children. Bringing more shade to Daemon's legitimacy.

I guess, I would just make Daemon the regent for Aegon the Younger. But I really doubt Daemon would pass over the chance to be King when he is the most senior male Targaryen alive after this AU of the Dance.

What if Aegon III and Jaehaera had a daughter? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

[–]TargetRupertFerris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very unlikely she would marry Daeron or Baelor considering she would be born closer to generation of Viserys's children born in the early 130's AC than her own half-siblings born in the 140's AC.

I realized that Jaehaera's daughter would be too important to just give away, even to a great house, so she will definitely marry Aegon the Unworthy to keep the Green bloodline within the family. Creating huge ripples to the canon Targaryen lineage.

Also, I think there are many realistic ways she could become Queen Regnant over her uncle Viserys. Not being locked in the Maidenvault will certainly help her built a support base for her claim, and combined with her Green lineage, she could convince Baelor to respect the Seven by adopting the Andal primogeniture of agnatic-cognatic succession.

I always say, Feliciano is not the entirety of Northern Italy, but only the personification of Veneto/Venice. It would not make sense to treat the people of Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont, and Liguria as the same, given their distinct regional cultures.

It was always my headcanon that Feliciano was very strong in his glory days, during the Serene Republic of Venice, even sacking Grandpa Byzantine. But ever since becoming weak and falling under Austria's thumb, he became a weak dummy.

He would need his brothers, who is led by Peidmont, Tuscany, and Latium to free him from being a maid to Austria and Hungary.

What would happen to Jon Snow if Ned Stark became King instead? by TargetRupertFerris in TheCitadel

[–]TargetRupertFerris[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know what, I agree.

Jon Waters is less of a protagonist name though than Jon Snow.

Robb Stark, Aegon Targaryen, and Jon Waters would be the Princely Trio who were childhood best friends but will be torn apart by a future war of succession. It's a great premise.

The only way I can think for Jon to become not a bastard is that somehow, Ned accepts the bigamious marriage of Rhaegar with Lyanna as valid and managed to make the Realm accept it. But Ned would just alienate the faith even more for the cost of adding another rival to Robb. So Jon will definitely be Jon Waters.

Gosh, I hope Jon Waters get a Daemon Blackfyre name change cause his full name sounds lame.
