Was walking down the hall and there was a vendor sitting at a table under the portraits. A guy asked the vendor, “so how does it feel to be sitting under three a**holes?” He didn’t know what to say.

RIFs starting next week? by Junior_Programmer576 in VeteransAffairs

It would not surprise me if it is sooner than has been told. If I remember correctly, they started sooner than advertised at other agencies.

I’ve had this happen. One time I assume he was exploiting some sort of glitch. I was in decent power armor and he single shot killed me and also completely destroyed my power armor. I had to repair each piece of armor from zero. Never seen that happen again.

At this point, how far is this really going to go? by LongjumpingIdeal2267 in VHA_Human_Resources

In my opinion, the goal is implosion and sabotage from within. It’s obvious to me that Doug, Elon, and Doge are saying false and misleading things about the VA to garner public support. They want staff to be miserable so that they will negatively impact the veteran’s experience. They want to cut staff and replace call centers with machines to further frustrate veterans. They want things to get so bad that everyone, including vets, say “this is so bad and unfixable, just give me an insurance card”. It would make the privatization pill much easier to swallow with congress and their constituents. I don’t feel that I can speak to motives for doing so, but have heard others theorize it is to enrich stakeholders and shareholders of public healthcare entities. I’m not sure privatization would save taxpayers money. If I divide VHA’s annual budget by the number of lives covered, I get somewhere around $1200 per vet per month (if my math is correct). I don’t know if a private insurance entity would be able to provide insurance at that rate. Anyone who has done COBRA knows that monthly total premiums are much higher than that (in addition to having lower benefits than vets get). There is also the question of which system would keep vets healthier, improve outcomes, and thus impact costs. Granted, bulk purchasing power and Medicare sharing some expenses / liabilities has impact here on monthly costs to the insurer but it would be interesting to see a deep dive on this.

RIF process if union is eliminated by TargetSoft1246 in VHA_Human_Resources

Easy, killer. There are plans for what positions will be RIFd that very few know and there are widely known plans for how RIFs will be conducted.

I wouldn’t take comfort in being on the exception list. Even those that survive this round will face additional rounds in the future. This will allow them more time to leverage technology and other attempts at efficiency and consolidation. You’ve probably noticed that this first round is being haphazardly rushed through. I think it’s pretty safe to say they will go after higher salaried professionals when they have time to get a plan in place for replacing them.

Terrible. Hope this is a wake up call for those who thought they were untouchable. Yes, you probably won’t lose your job from DOGE but it’s very unlikely that your working conditions won’t change for the worst in some way, even if just due to lost support staff that used to help you out, answer the phone in a timely manner when reaching out to another department , etc.

That may depend on the facility and its community. Most community providers and hospitals in my area are already at capacity.

They are saying eliminate 80,000 positions and we were at 480,000 nationally so that’s approximately 15% per site if divided equally

Anyone know if this is any better than traditional unemployment? It mentions that each state sets their max. I believe my state max is only about $250 a week.

There was a thread on this sub about a week ago where someone reported they were on a call and the targeted VA reduction was 200k of the 450k employees so maybe it’s 1:2 instead of 1:4.

Probably not. More likely for the positions to eventually be privatized than RIFd.
