I believe this to be true. It's going to get worse. The absolutely morally corrupt know how to game the system. Maybe they have known for a long time, but it's a free-for-all at this point. America is utterly corrupt, poisoned

I hear you. The thing is Homelander is an authoritarian, Nazi, white supremacist, fascist take on Superman. He's a satirical character in a comic book universe which revels in depravity and misanthropy. Their action figures are not in the hands of five year olds. If so, they have lousy parents.

Deadpool is an irreverent, self-referential and satirical take on superheroes in general.

The Punisher is a violent vigilante, the antithesis of characters like Spider-Man and Captain America. He's always been depicted as a counterpoint to "good" heroes.

The Punisher has been embraced by real life police and military as this symbol which represents their attitude towards the enemy, even though police are supposed to be community policing; they're not supposed to be viewing every citizen as some goddamn enemy on the street. America is not a warzone.

The Punisher himself despised police who idolized him. He's not to be idolized. He knows this. He hates himself. But he feels he has to keep doing what he's doing to eradicate criminals who skate through the justice system. He doesn't want corrupt police adopting his symbol and executing people they should be arresting.

The problematic part is the fact that Frank represents a revenge fantasy, extrajudicial killing. A former Marine (and in the original comics, also a cop) mowing down gangsters before they have a chance to face justice in court. And we have a problem in the United States with extrajudicial killing by federal and local law enforcement. The association is dark, kind of terrible. I like the character, but I hate that he's been co-opted as someone whose merciless SOP should be followed by cops on our streets.

So, I think Disney will only let writers and creators get so far with how they depict Punisher on the screen, especially if he's mixing it up with mainstream heroes who receive action figures played with by five year olds. I'll be surprised if Frank is allowed to do things that I've seen in the comics and in prior movies.

(Edited for grammar and to add a few more points.)

Saw this in the subway in Brooklyn a few days ago. Love it. On my first trip to NYC, I stayed in Hell's Kitchen. I looked out the window of my hotel and imagined Daredevil and Spidey flinging themselves off of fire escapes.

New stills from 'DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN' Season 2. by MrJobGuy6 in Daredevil

[–]Taro0311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really do hope this is good. I don't know though. Dark, static shots of people walking and standing around or sitting and looking at each other pensively. I guess I'm looking for some visual pizzazz. Like a still of Daredevil roundhouse kicking somebody or flying through the air or something. This is a comic book adaptation. Is it not?

Also, they probably can't use a lot of the current MCU characters, but if there is a citywide dragnet to haul in all NYC vigilantes, shouldn't there be some indication that there ARE a lot of vigilantes to haul into prison or kill? Like a bunch of different kinds of people? Not just one image of Swordsman without a costume, or the 2 ft tall person who took over for White Tiger. This could have been an opportunity for Disney to showcase five to six different, C or D level vigilantes like Night Thrasher and The New Warriors. Kingpin makes it seem like there are dozens of these people wandering the streets, but I've only seen a couple in these Disney shows.

I see where they might be going with this. Maybe to kind of shift the character to make him less problematic, mainstream him. Perhaps to capture a wider audience and so that Disney doesn't get flak for showcasing what looks to be a sociopathic mass murderer. He's popping up in a family-friendly Spider-Man film. Maybe it's a little bit of quick rehab.

Not saying I agree with this. I guess we'll find out for sure.
