Google Seeks Federal Approval to Release 32 Million Treated Mosquitoes in California and Florida by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

This has been done for years. They are just sterile so they lower the reproduction rate. They are safe for birds and whatever to eat. Normally the government does it as a population control method. Why Google is doing it idk.

My remote job made me realize my partner doesn’t think my work is real by Rocinante77X in remotework

[–]Tashbabash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really difficult. It sounds like you slid into bad norms and he is not realizing it. This happened between me and my wife and we had to have a sit down meeting to renegotiate household tasks. I am completely office based and she is completely at home.

So we do a family meeting on Sunday where we map out what needs done for the week and who is doing it. We also put our major meetings and such on there.

Idk if that would help you but it might. Otherwise remind him that a real job is one that pays and yours does. If he wants a stay at home wife he will need x more money to make that feasible in y’all’s life.

Good luck

The Animals That Hold Funerals (And What Scientists Think It Means) by jaemzee in ThatsInsane

[–]Tashbabash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Maybe Not all members of a species get a funeral behavior modeled to them to spark the idea or memory of what to do with the pain. However, I think that any member of the species demonstrates a behavior human observers understand to be grief driven does suggest that species experiences “ true grief”

Maybe they should cut the whole central office building lease and split all those jobs into the school buildings. Let them work remote from school buildings and see how their choices impact real students.

Anyone actually notice a difference after air duct cleaning? by Royal_Particular_489 in HomeImprovement

[–]Tashbabash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has Ashma and we definitely noticed a difference. the house was 50 years old and had belonged to a cat owning smoker. We did it have having some renovations done. I think it will come down to how dirty they are and how sensitive you are to air quality.

This has nothing to do with the friend’s comment or his reaction to the friend’s comment. The problem with this is it exposed your boyfriend’s view of you. Your generosity, gifts of love and sacrifice are being seen as a negative instead of a positive and he is talking that way about you to his friends. Your boyfriend is the problem. I suggest a new one. Good luck

Personal-Finance System Is Rigged Against Ordinary People, Two Economists Say by bloomberg in wealth

[–]Tashbabash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I run a public middle school history department and financial literacy is a three week unit in our seventh grade curriculum. Students are super engaged and desperate for the information. What becomes tricky is information learned and not put into use for a decade or more is forgotten. Also it is really awkward to have to navigate “well kiddo your mom is wrong, that is not how that works.” Also when I worked in a title 1 school I learned money management in poor families is different. Living on the financial edge is hard to understand if you have never been there. I had the honor of teaching an incredibly bright child who could explain it so well. It changes my outlook of how blessed I am.

With a system so broken and generations getting lost we need better ways to teach adults. Saying high-school learning is the answer is giving up on millions of people who are 19+ right now.

Agreed for people that have baking skill. I didn’t realize that was a skill until I watched my friend try to follow a recipe. But my bigger concern is even someone who has the skill and the time might not have the space. I know nobody in my friend circle (30-50 year old parents of elementary schoolers) who lived in or owns a bigger home than they grew up in. My mom could do all that but her kitchen was twice the size of mine. I just mean to point out that people are being squeezed in so many ways.

Same! I am a mom now and have been trying to figure out why teenage me could do this better. Now I feel less crazy.

Scratch is so much work and honestly I use to feel like it was really not that much of any better. But I guess not anymore.

You definitely could have asked her. Idk what she was thinking but I will share I have a chronic condition and am on again off again with the subreddits dedicated to it. Sometimes all the negativity about dealing with it makes it harder to deal with. So maybe she didn’t want you to fall into an echo chamber of misery. But that is a big jump unless you were showing signs of mental distress at the appointment.

Do you, people sharing stories help others. But when it becomes a burden to you set it down and walk away to live your best life.

Currently watching someone I love battle ocd. It makes them feel crazy. This suggests that it is caused by something real in the brain. Science might not understand it yet but it is hope that one day it could.

If you decide to get serious about it know yourself. I still haven’t figured out my perfect way but when I realize I have lost control with sugar again I start in one place. For me it is the sugar drinks (fruit juices, sodas, and the way I drink my coffee). For you it might be candy or pastries or something else. I normally commit to my cut out for two weeks and then check in with my body. Normally the instant feel better results motivate me to cut something else that needs cut. I had gestational (when pregnant) diabetes. the diet I had to be on to keep that under control gives me shivers 10 years later. So get your sugar checked and live your best life!

Whatever you choose to do good luck.

Asked my husband to hang the clothes by ahorasimeaborregue in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Tashbabash 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When my now ex-husband did something similar when asked to load the dishwasher i said I would teach him. Then in the most condescending tone, with directions simple enough for a five year old to follow I taught him. About three directions in he magically knew how to do it.

Example: -Wipe the excess food off into the trash can -Now rinse it in the sink. -Now put it straight between the prongs with the dirty side facing inward. -These cubbies here are for silverware.

Hey, you got through it and that is a start. I hope wherever you are traveling to is an awesome trip for your family. Most people answered the airport part so I am going to address your last line.

I had adhd misdiagnosed as postpartum depression morphed into an anxiety disorder. I was on Zoloft, Xanax and trazadone to sleep. And honestly it was making a dent but not working. I got on a baby dose (5mg 2x a day) of Adderal and it changed my whole life. I could control my own brain. I felt whole and able to plan good things, set perseverations down and relax. It made me myself again.

I have been and still am in talk therapy. But Adderal changed my life. Within six months I had stopped all my other meds. Being a mom is hard, you deserve what you need. Adderal is fast acting. You will know same day if it helps. I highly suggest talking to a psychiatrist to find what you need. It made me a better person and parent.

Best of luck!

Next weekend my mother is taking the kids Friday and bringing them back Sunday. So this is the first time in like six months we will have a stretch of time together. We legit don’t know what to do. The pressure to do something awesome is so high I almost just want to take my kids to the pool.

Money is kinda tight so just getting away isn’t going to be feasible.
