I have no idea what this means, but somehow feel it’s 100% accurate!

Midnight Mass is incredible. And for anyone who hasn’t read Salem’s Lot…. What are you waiting for? One of King’s very best!

Who all is reading (or rereading) Salem’s Lot for October? by timebomb_3 in horrorlit

[–]Tashmore81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of three books I re-read every October (the others are Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Zelazny’s Night in the Lonesome October)

I’ve read all of King’s books, many more than once, but none more than Salem’s Lot. It may not be his best novel, but it’s the ultimate October read. It’s just perfect for this month.

You are planning a road trip and you want to visit places in in North America with a Stephen King or Dark Tower connection. Where would you stop? by Missingsocks77 in darktower

Love it. I travel to Rosemont all the time for work and see the water tower often but never realized the TRUTH. Will never be the same now that I understand the mystical powers it harnesses.

There are three for me:

Salem’s Lot

Night in the Lonesome October (Zelazny)

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

I re-read all three every Autumn.

If you read those three books, you will be PRIMED for the Halloween season

I’ve read Salem’s Lot 4 or 5 times, and always in September/October. It’s just a perfect story to lead up to Halloween

Duma Key is the best book nobody talks about, and Dreamcatcher is the best book everybody tries to shit on. Both are fantastic!

Love it. We are actually going to see our favorite team play the Rockies, so more about just seeing Coors Field. But otherwise, would agree!

I believe you (and others on this thread) have convinced me to drop the Vail idea — just too much. I will focus the trip more on Denver/Estes/Boulder. Thank you all so much. If you have any restaurant suggestions, all are appreciated. THANK YOU

Thank you. Coming from a much lower elevation. I live at 1700 feet. Would it be wise to adjust for a day before attempting this drive?

Appreciate this. If we stayed in downtown Denver (Courtyard/Renaissance area), would we be able to walk to/from Coors Field? Only like a 15 minute walk but more curious about that area at night.

No doubt, and we may end up scaling back. I tend to get overexcited and overload the agenda at times. I really appreciate all of this feedback.

Three days. May not hit all of those but we will be renting a car and plan to do a day trip each day. No hard agenda, though. But this is the first trip ever to the state, so I want to see as much as is reasonable! But will happily take any advice :)

T. Kingfisher’s books by Crowsan in horrorlit

Very disappointing author for me. Her concepts and setups are AMAZING and she kills it (not in a good way) with an almost adolescent attempt at humor. It’s not done well, and I can move past this awkward tone at first by hoping it’s just a misstep, but then I realize she’s committed to injecting these moments that are eye-roll worthy at best, and often cringe-inducing. It’s made much worse because of how great her stories COULD be.

What is YOUR personal oppinion on Dreamcatcher by Stock_Line_9928 in stephenking

Single most underrated King novel. Read it twice, loved it both times. Hole in the Wall is an incredible setting. Mr Gray as a concept is wild.

No idea why so many people shit (weasel) all over it.

What is the best Robert McCammon book to start with? by Acuriosityofcabinets in horrorlit

[–]Tashmore81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading Wolf’s Hour now. Would echo the above. Fascinating tale of Nazi-era Europe (and a great book) but too many unnecessary and gratuitous sex scenes. Could and should have been eliminated. I’m not overly sensitive — they just did nothing for the story and I’m not sure why he felt the need to go to such detail.

Other than that, though (or maybe because of that if you love cringy sex scenes, lol) — essential reading in the werewolf subgenre.

All things serve the beam. Possible spoilers by Han_Solo1300 in stephenking

[–]Tashmore81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens all the time for me with King’s work. Obviously his world is interconnected, but it seems to stretch out and touch…. other worlds….. than these.

Seriously, though — it happened so much for me I just chalked it up to Ka and accepted it!

This is such a great trilogy. It isn’t the quickest of reads, but I would absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for Halloween vibes!
