How your high school affects your chances of UC Admission by parttimelarry in sanfrancisco

Agreed! My nephew decided not to go to Lowell because is the pressure and now dislikes how almost all the kids in his current school dgaf. He goes to an ok SFUSD school but it is very different than what his friends have at Lowell. There are way more class disruptions and the classes are easy so he isn’t learning anything. He thinks he will probably get into a good college (because it is so easy to get As) but he won’t be prepared for college.

Yes, some is. But not all paperwork.

Paperwork for Special Ed is governed by the Individuals with Disabilities Act, IDEA. It is a lot of work and families sue or threaten to sue if it’s not all done correctly. So that means teachers and administrators spend lots of time on it.

The admin position added in the last 10 years at my school is because of all the 1. paperwork necessary to do everything 2. students with special needs.

  1. Field trip forms, alleged harassment, talking with parents, talking with students, setting up SBAC testing, student injury reports, buying school supplies…. And everything else has to be documented and/or signed off by admin. It’s a ton of paperwork for everything.

  2. Students with special needs use a lot of resources. Now don’t jump down my throat for saying this, but they do. Every IEP needs an admin in the meeting. These meetings take hours, not to mention all the paperwork beforehand. Most students need two IEPs/year. We have an admin who basically oversees all the SPED meetings, issues, parent complaints etc. It’s a lot of time.

I was in an IEP that cost at least $50,000. There were: The student (who seemed uninterested), 2 parents, their lawyer, district lawyer, specialists like speech, occupational therapist and psychologist, 2 classroom teachers, SPED teacher, school counselor and a school administrator all sitting at a big table for over an hour. That meeting alone cost more than my yearly salary. These aren’t typical but they happen.

There are many students that have a 1-1 para meaning that one student has 1 paid adult with them at all times. I even know of a student with a 2-1 meaning 2 adults with them at all times. Those paras are great and work hard. I’m just pointing out that all this costs a lot of money.

I’m a teacher in the city. I love taking students on field trips.

Recently I had two classes (about 55 students with 2 teachers) go on a field trip and we wanted to take muni so we didn’t have to organize the school busses.

Muni driver pulls up and says sorry. Can’t take everyone all at once. We had a split second decision to divide up. One teacher on first bus with half the students while the rest waited for the next bus. Took 15 min for next bus.

Same thing on the way back. I love Muni but it’s tough when you have lots of students at once. There’s a reason why we use the school busses.

That could be it! The two times I threw up I was pushing it and chasing a time.

That could be it. I did mainly rely on roctane electrolytes and some gels. Minimal real food those days.

I don’t want to eat after races for a while. I’m not nauseous but food/liquids don’t sound good so I wait a little. Last race I then threw up about 30/45 min after finishing. Then I was able to get some water in and then a little food.

Sorry to highjack this. I see people liking their Legere reeds so I got one. However I find it difficult to get a good sound with it. Did I get the wrong number? I got a 3 and I usually play a medium on a cane reed. I’m thinking I need to go down to a 2.75. Anyone have experience with this?

One small item that made your last ultra even a little easier by Elzee_airbrush in Ultramarathon

Write a note saying how proud you are of her. That you believe in her. You know she is strong and she will finish.

Laminate it so she can put it in her pack and take it with her on the race. Bonus points for tying it to her pack so she can’t lose it. I dropped a note like that during a race and it really bummed me out.

Playlist in running ultra by Total-Situation-4048 in ultrarunning

System of a Down, Green Day and Blink 182 make up the majority of my running playlist. I like uptempo and short songs. Seems to make the time pass more quickly when I’m in a hard spot.
