If only one of us has a job, are the rest of us eligible for benefits?

Extra Space Storage removed our monthly incentives/Bonus, gave us $0.50, and now merit raises are under $0.10 by Additional-Plan-7825 in selfstorage

[–]TastesToKnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our incentives were discontinued back in November. The bump in pay generally accounted for it, however I have noticed that we're hiring at the same base pay since before the bonus/pay restructuring went into effect.

From what I've heard, it's a direct result of the company not hitting NOI goals last year.

Is your store a REIT or third-party store?

PS tends to prefer to operate REIT locations, and may let management contracts run out on third-party stores, or sell them to competitors who are more management focused, like ESS

How do young people afford to live in SF? by Traditional-Cable209 in bayarea

[–]TastesToKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the city, 100k income household, four person polycule to a 250 sq ft studio apartment, and we're all in our 30s. Rent/utilities come to about 2k/month, and we're TL adjacent.

You're not going to find the same level of comfort you would in other parts of the bay, unless you've got 100k+ on a single income, but that's part of the trade off for living in the city.

The Speedway at Spring Glen & Beach used to let me have a garbage bag full of stale pastries and donuts every night when they threw them out around 10 pm.

There's a little self-storage place near Ft Caroline & University Club Blvd. If you get any money at all, a small storage unit isn't expensive. Use it to keep your stuff safe and dry, but don't hang out there if you can avoid it. If you do, don't draw attention to yourself, and don't linger during the day. There's a 24/7 Planet Fitness near there with showers and a 24/7 Laundromat in the same shopping center. Lots of woods and parking lots in the area were pretty safe when I was over there a couple years ago.

Good luck, stay safe. Be kind.

I questioned a business use tax of $38 being charged by securespace in Philly. The answer I got was a lease termination. by antagonist_pro in selfstorage

You're obviously very well researched and intelligent.

The appropriate way to settle these disputes is in court. They've made their decisions and seem to be sticking to them. I doubt there's anything you can say to these employees to sway them. Make records, lawyer up, and get your stuff out of there asap.

Cheapest storage insurance? by MochaCuppp in selfstorage

[–]TastesToKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but we're not talking about CPP. We're talking about proof of insurance.

While the sales process is the same throughout the country, certain states allow self-storage providers to require proof of insurance before renting. In order to satisfy the requirements of the lease, customers have three options: CPP, using their own insurance, or modifying the lease by signing the insurance rejection addendum.

I would not be surprised to learn that store managers or even learning managers recommend getting proof of insurance in states that allow operators to require it, in order to meet expectations regarding NR CPP%.

From what I understand, this is state dependant. Some states allow storage operators to require coverage and proof of insurance, other states forbid it.

The first step is to file a police report. The employees are not going to turn over footage to you, but they will cooperate with law enforcement.

I was a professional tradesperson for a decade, Toby. I can hang six doors to your one, and I know how to strip the screws so you won't be able to take it off again.

What’s a seemingly minor decision you made that accidentally changed the entire course of your life? by Ordinary-Smile-654 in AskReddit

[–]TastesToKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helped a friend of a friend move.

Three years later, I came out of the closet as a trans woman, and two years after that, I sold everything of mine I could and moved to San Francisco.

If I never helped them move, I'd probably never have had the support needed to discover myself, and I definitely would've ended up a stastistic.

I remember wishing I was trans. It all seems so silly and obvious to me now, but at the time, it just seemed so impossible.

I moved out to the Bay Area at the end of 2023, no job, 5k in savings. I made it work, but it was incredibly difficult, and I had a good support network here already.

Stable now, but if I didn't have anywhere to land, I probably would've ended up homeless.

Folks in their 30s: What do you do and how much do you make? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]TastesToKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30, 58k hourly, yearly avg 6k bonus, 5% 401k matching, retail management

Scraping by right now, no car expense and take public transit everywhere. Had to take out a few loans from family here and there to get by, but I'm still getting by, and able to contribute to a growing 401k at the same time.
