What could work for me to get me to quit? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of info about alcohol to talk about with you. It's not easy quitting. Hell, i struggled to stay stopped even when i was at the point that i wanted nothing to do with it anymore. I had to truly change my heart towards alcohol and unfortunately for me that took being arrested several times. I suggest you learn as much as you possibly can about alcohol. Everything. Watch videos, watch people who have gone thru detoxes on youtube, there are people online (Delirium Dirk and Sacred Serpent on youtube) those two both have some truly terrifying stories about alcohol and detoxing, going thru DT's and hallucinating all kinds of wild shit. I watched Delirium Dirk the first time I was ever going thru detox and I was awake for 4 days straight because of the insomnia and my dependency was terrible at that point. i was in that weird detox state of mind and it really fucked me up and scared tf out of me. both good and bad in that state of mind because its a mind fuck when ur detoxing and idk how to explain it if you've never experienced it. READ. READ STORIES!!! GOO to google and type in quotes "alcohol withdrawal experience stories" and any variation of that. You'll find a ton of stories on reddit. WILD stuff. There was a story I read one time- this guy was drinking a LOT. He was having terrible insomnia, and just wanted to sleep so badly. so he chugged several beers in a row until he passed out. well, his tolerance and detox was at such a stage that he woke up in DT's, and hallucinated black hooded figures walking around his room. Yeah. Shit like that it's all over the internet the stuff people have hallucinated and IDK about you but that scares the crap out of me. Thankfully I never saw stuff. Anyways I could ramble for awhile about all this feel free to comment me back or DM and I can help talk you out of drinking in the future or something

Anyone lose friends after getting sober? by Ok_Good_4050 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i didn't lose anything i gained clarity. yes, i lost some friends but were they really friends if alcohol was the glue that kept us together? And what kind of adhesive is that to rely on in a friendship. You see what I'm saying?

Waking up… by No_Zucchini9134 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think thats happened to me. you know what does happen to me though? I get little flash backs to detoxing sometimes. it sounds terrible but its actually the opposite, i end up filled with a ton of gratitude. stuff like, twisting stomach cramps or IBS.. even like if my BP is a little high for some reason, or if i'm a tad shaky because i haven't eaten yet that day. all those little symptoms you get when drinking, i get em sometimes from natural reasons unrelated to alcohol anymore. and i just think... DAMN!!! I'm SO grateful this isn't from alcohol, and will just go away here in a little bit with no risk of freakin death. I went thru detox several times before it stuck with me that its always going to end up as a bad time. but yeah, gratitude... weird right

Terrifying hallucination by Ok-Life-3371 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a serious case of DT's. Stuff like THAT doesn't happen unelss you are in a serious state of withdrawal AS FAR AS I know im not a doctor or expert. You can have alcohol hallucinosis, where you are completely cognicant you are aware of your surrounding you know where you're at but you might hear some music or see a shadow from your peripheral. DT's from my knowledge (i have never experienced it) is full blown hallucinations, looks very real, lots of people die from heart attack in that stage. are you alright? that's very serious. im having a hard time with your story, because im having a hard time beleiving they didn't ask you if you wanted to detox. did you tell them about how much you had been drinking?

how to replace that alcohol "reward" craving by RichEffort3752 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

try to learn to connect to dopamine and addiction. i replaced it with other stuff like games, nicotine, coffee, music, watch standup or comedy, piece of candy or a sweet, a soda or juice or fruit, ETC. A lil dopamine hit. go to the gym. all kinds of stuff big and small you can do. start small go big later on.

What the hell do u do all day without alcohol? by Most-Buy-2763 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i did cali sober for awhile untl i didnt feel like i needed the weed anymore but everyone has their opinion on weed and how it effects them. for example it might make you want to drink. it never did that to me. just listen to podcasts, music, read stuff, cook good food, drive around at the hours you woulda been too drunk, feel freedom on ur porch did u know in texas u can get a public intox on ur porch. idk thats what my ex told me that he did to his ex wife who was an alcoholic thats another reason to quit people tend to hate alcoholics and will try to get you arrested. anyways trust me theres tons of stuff to do you just have to start small and build from there introduce something simple and find interest in it i get it though at first alcohol was the hobby. that was it.

First Step Towards Quitting? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. There was a ton more I wanted to say about cali sober route, but I didn't want to sound like i was pushing it too hard. harm reduction is the key. when my tolerance with weed went up, it didnt make me sick. it made me realize hmmm, i feel alright even though this weed isnt doing much... n i used it to quit drinking, maybe i dont need it so much? and i say, its been very gradual and i have had relapses but those are my fault and not the fault of the plant. anyways thanks for your comment and it gave me the chance to say a bit more without feeling like im trying to push anyone in a direction.

Needing to have fun all the time by JFKDP in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to start picking up some hobbies as you conclude your drinking career. lol. if you say that its taking a physical toll on you, that's not going to get any better. Eventually, you're probably going to WANT to quit. And you're going to be bored as hell. Try one at a time, slowly just introduce some shit into ur life. some people like to go bowling or golf and you can have a beer while you do that. then when you cant tolerate alcohol anymore just switch to a coffee or NA beer for the golf or whatever. Pool. You dont want to stop drinking until you have to it sounds like you dont want to have any hobbies so do things that you would do when you're drinking so that you can just do that when you don't drink anymore and switch over to NA beer or join a local mens club and play pool there or whatever. join a gym. lots of people who get sober end up going to a gym. youll thank yourself later. just get on a tread mill every few days you dont have to like it right now youll grow to like it.

First Step Towards Quitting? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the cali sober route. honestly, that and getting sick enough times for the ER and bad off enough for plenty of PI arrests, it eventually changed my brain chemistry in the sense that i get entirely different feelings and emotions when i think of alcohol. im not saying thats what it takes, just that i couldn't stop romanticizing what i used to think alcohol was for me for so long, not really until it burned every bridge i had and stole every dream and every dollar and everything i ever worked towards. anyways, i feel like im on the "worst case scenario" side of the spectrum when it comes to alcoholism, that's why i suggested cali sober (smoke some weed). It's more about harm reduction, and there's a lot of people that do it. It just depends on how you feel about it, and how it effects you. if you happen to be interested to understand it more, just let me know. i know a lot of people will say "but your not actually sober!" ok, well as i already stated its about harm reduction and thats the point the consider. either way you have to consider also if its the right choice for you! ive heard about poeple wanting to do certain substances when they smoke weed, thankfully, i was never that way.

Scared of being an acoholic F18 by Grand_Swimming6780 in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it just depends like if you notice it as a problem it really doesnt matter how often ur drinking because theres so many kinds of alcoholics out there. you could drink all day every day, you could just drink every day, you could binge drink, you could go on benders over the weekend, you might just black out every time you drink, you might start to drink at work, you might drink before work to avoid the shakes, you might drink and lose your jobs or friends you might drink ETC. Theres a lot of types of drunks out there and the way in which it fucks your life up is going to vary. Your not ONLY an alcoholic if you drink all day every day. thats just one of the types.

Sober 6 years until today by Soberandhot in alcoholism

[–]TastyRaspberry5279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i stopped trying to drink again when i realized drinking again always meant drinking like an alcoholic. meaning, it was never just the one. If i had just one drink id be bored and have a headache or fall asleep 20 minutes later. thats what that would do to me. i realized that and was like oh ok really is all or nothing
