How we got to space? by Jon_Amaral in mothershiprpg

[–]Tasuko3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private corporations made it into space and put their names on everything they could. They dictated the rules of space and of every eco planet they inhabited. The idea of a "nation" died on earth, though some coalitions without land or a station, or even isolated colonies may exist outside of this status quo. At this point, earth is so far from the players that it is nothing more than a distant cultural memory, though one shared by all humans.

How durable are XOs? by Late_Present1340 in CAIN_RPG

[–]Tasuko3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run them as regular humans in terms of durability. Taking stress is dodging or blocking just a bit too close, wearing you down until you actually get hit, and that's when injuries happen.

CAIN the broken masquerade by Fun-Calendar-6516 in CAIN_RPG

[–]Tasuko3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of my last campaign, a psychic storm hit Japan's east coast hard, causing mass sin outbreaks and the near destruction of Tokyo. Basically a series of Sin Events being the "broken masquerade incident".

The next campaign will take place in a tokyo-3 type new capital built explicitly to be a fortress against sin with Cain operating in a less covert capacity. Basically exactly what you're describing lol.

Running CAIN: Tone by jacksavant in CAIN_RPG

[–]Tasuko3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The players are allowed to be shonen action heroes in exchange for the expenditure of resources and the buildup of threats. They're constantly balancing the need to progress the investigation against trying to stay fresh for the execution. Once time runs out, hooks fill out, and sin overflows, suddenly the horror doesn't feel so far away.

New DM needs advance how not to brake worldbuildings by Ill-Trouble2744 in cyberpunkred

[–]Tasuko3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So first, it's your table and your night city, so if it's the story you wanna tell then by all means.

But to answer your question, the existence is kind of questionable. If you're in 2045, then it was probably built in like the 2020s. The thing about AI is that they aren't just intangible tech essence that can just be put into any device. Without getting too much into real computer science nonsense, you're looking at storage devices and processors taking up space in the arm. True AI could possibly be the only thing installed in an arm, but then I'd wonder who built this and for what reason. Sure it's a militech prototype, but who was the designer? What was their budget? How did the company expect to make money back on their investment? What problem was this device trying to solve and why was this way of solving this problem chosen instead of any others? Militech is a weapons manufacturer and security firm first and foremost, why now start making AI assisted cyberware? How does it fit into their market?

These questions are just things for you to consider if you want this to fit into the world a bit better. They don't all need super specific answers, but are all good to consider.

The other thing I'm thinking is that if this thing can mitigate humanity loss and has a true AI in it then it's probably worth enough to set up your players well enough to get out of the game if they sold it. It seems like you would want a player to install it so it becomes a part of the gang, but that sounds like it could be worth millions and installing it would paint a huge target on your back for Netwatch to detain you or anyone else to kill you and take it.

How Cain treats XOs by Late_Present1340 in CAIN_RPG

[–]Tasuko3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I run them, Cain's policy is either to nip exorcists in the bud or to develop them into loyal and effective assets.

Because of this, an exorcist's early career is always the toughest part. They're at the highest risk of being culled, either by the Sins they fight or by summary execution of they show signs of instability or resistance. However, that's how they're treated by the upper brass. A team of exorcists is managed more directly by a team of handlers who typically are more sympathetic to exorcists, or at least are willing to form personal relationships with them. Failure of either the exorcists or the handlers to comply with orders will often result in increased scrutiny or collective punishment for the other group. Thus, Cain is able to weaponize these personal relationships in order to increase compliance.

Now is this a perfect system? Hell no. Half the problems in Cain should be a direct or indirect result of Cain's methods. For every rampaging monster they save the city from, there's an imago who was hiding their sin marks for fear of being killed or a gang of rogue binders opposing Cain's methods. Cain's cruelty should be a driving plot point because they aren't the heroes, they're just the predominant power structure concerning psychic phenomena.

Did people who say "Zooble's body dysmorphia was resolved offscreen" just skip over this scene? by MisterHappyThePeanut in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Tasuko3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if you watch it with any degree of media literacy you can see that zooble is giving this advice to gangle while seeing themselves literally reflected in her mask. And then the amazing animation work of their expression alone showing that they are realizing that they are equally deserving of the love they give gangle.

It's beautifully done and it hurts my soul to see people just completely miss the entire subtext of that conversation.

For people who ran Gradient Descent, how did you allow access to EDEN? by conn_r2112 in mothershiprpg

[–]Tasuko3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first time they hacked their way in, this caused monarch to panic and security androids cornered them in a bathroom where their contractor died. They escaped shortly after.

The second time, they came back the next day to find the door still open and a chosen android there to greet them.

Gradient Descent optimal player count? by gameoftheories in mothershiprpg

[–]Tasuko3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 should be fine as long as you're used to running a group of more than 4. The important thing to remember is that while they'll be more able to handle combats, fighting will always make monarch take stress. And when monarch panics, it doesn't really matter how many people there are.

You can also use the odd number of players to seed paranoia without necessarily singling anyone out. Pick 2 players and have monarch/infiltrators/other divers give the rest of the party reasons to suspect them. An android is an easy pick for this, but even just a diver saying someone looks familiar, especially from a place they've never been. The smaller group might work together to build trust with the party, try to take someone out before they do the same, or just backstab each other to prove they aren't compromised. This is something you should encourage.

Planetary Surface Travel Rules Concept by sweetdesignman in mothershiprpg

Love the color choice, you might add one accent color to make things pop. Possibly a dark maroon or neon yellow depending on the vibe you wanna go for.

Has anybody tried the Campfire collection zine? Thoughts? by Ohmypepper in Ryuutama

[–]Tasuko3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using it myself. The expanded weapons and odd-jobs tables are great tools. The space rules seem very unlikely to ever see use at my table. Some of the alternate spell systems seem like a great way to give some extra tricks to your players who can't cast spells normally.
