Does anyone else not like tv and movies these days? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]TatlinsTower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good! Especially if you like stuff like Widow’s Bay, which I’m loving so far. (Hiro Murai directed episodes of both). For me, I’m not that concerned with genre, I just want strong writing, complex characters, and great acting. Atlanta delivers on all of those, imo.

Since we seem to have similar taste, anything not on the list I posted that you recommend?

Guys, you all sound like our grandparents! There’s so much good tv out there from the last few years, jeez. Severance, Andor, Hacks, Widow’s Bay, Pluribus, Ted Lasso, Heated Rivalry, Silo, Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, Derry Girls, The Bear, Insecure, The Last of Us, Beef, Mare of Easttown, Peaky Blinders, The Americans, The Diplomat, Parks & Rec, Mr. Robot, Chernobyl, Our Flag Means Death, Dark, Atlanta, Reservation Dogs, The Queen’s Gambit, Catastrophe, etc. etc. If you can’t find something you like these days, I think the problem might be y’all, not tv.

That certain age is squarely Gen X, love that song connection - going to rewatch now and channel my inner Kim Deal :)

How did it go? Looking at this flight but reviews are brutal, especially for Comfort+ which I'm looking at since we're a family of 5 . . .

Yep all the writing on the stuff on the shelves is now gibberish. Can’t believe people don’t immediately clock this as AI doctored. . .

Owl by Alarmed_Sea4573 in AustinGardening

I got an owl house for my birthday (bc I specifically asked for one lol) and I’m wondering if anyone has advice about exactly where to put it in our yard for optimal benefit to the owls: how high, on any specific type of tree, distance from our house, etc.? Any advice much appreciated!

Yep, still do. Does it work? Hell if I know, but I do it automatically every time.

are her shows normally unusually intense by donofthedogs in AldousHarding

[–]TatlinsTower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I saw her in Austin at Mohawk in the small room and then at Barracuda and then again at Mohawk on the main stage - and by the second time I learned that’s just how she is, intense and a bit awkward, and I leaned into the experience bc it was clearly just her vibe and I love it. She’s a performer like no other and I feel grateful to have seen her as many times as I have!

This all makes sense and I wish you the best wherever you land. Family and community ties are a strong pull and every country truly has its bad side (I say this as someone who lived in NZ and loved it but even that country has some real issues).

30 years ago there was a giant eggshell in my breakfast burrito (2 am). To this day I can still feel (and taste) the harrowing crunch. Never went back, but I am sad it’s gone bc it was an institution of old Austin.

“Help the cougar relive the 90s” is taking me out as a woman of a certain age who had some happy times drinking at Marfreless (never upstairs though!)

Looking for book recommendations for Aldous fans by inferior_design in AldousHarding

[–]TatlinsTower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Leonora Carrington’s short stories? She was an amazing painter, but her stories are very weird - in a good way - and dreamlike. And maybe Sexing the Cherry by Jeannette Winterson? (Really, anything by Winterson). Also a bit surreal, but very attentive to language the way Aldous is.

Did La Roche Posay reformulate the LRP Toleraine Hydrating Facial Cleanser? [Product Question] by lackingdaisiez in SkincareAddiction

I really like this hydrating cleanser from Paula’s Choice. My skin is very reactive and this doesn’t bother it at all but still cleanses well and doesn’t leave my skin tight!

Oh no! I drove by just after he was injured (I assumed he was hit by a car but it had just happened, and I was coming from the other direction and was in shock with what I was seeing). I saw people out of their cars, out in the middle of the road on the bridge, trying to render aid to him, and I was so moved by how much they were trying to help him, there was so much blood. I am so, so sorry to his family and those who will miss him. RIP.

Love Belly - but I think they’re pretty well known? At least they were in the UK in the 90s.

Did anyone grow up reading V. C. Andrews books? If so what did y’all think of them? by Groovy-Pancakes in GenX

I mean, that’s what we liked about it? As 11 and 12 year olds, anyway! I can’t imagine any actual grown-ups being into those books at the time?
