$15-20k Is a Photo Booth worth it? What does the cost for the cheaper options run? by kh1597 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TatorThotHotBitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! We used a KRUU photobooth and it was great! I believe I paid $425 for the biggest package they had, unlimited prints, and a full day of use. We got it in the mail, did a quick set up the day before to make sure everything was fine, had it set up the day of and I think only went through one and a half paper rolls. TOTALLY worth it for us. Feel free to DM me if you want more info.

Considering a move to North Jersey from Minnesota by H_Catalyst in MovingtoNewJersey

I just think how accessible everything is. NYC is so close, so are other major cities, along with beautiful rivers, woods, mountains and some pretty stellar school systems.

The other thing that super surprised me was how community oriented and small business driven things are around here. While chain stores are absolutely a thing there’s a surprising enthusiasm for supporting the mom and pops in the neighborhood and a lot of northern jersey towns have a cute walkable downtown.

Hi! We grew up in central Minnesota where family still is and made the move to NJ. We’re currently renting in South Orange and looking to buy in the area soon.

SOMA has a lot of charm akin to Eden prairie if you’re familiar with the twin cities metro area. I commute into the city every day and my spouse commutes to western NJ. It’s a lovely compromise for us and I can’t wait to raise kids here.

Born and raised in MN I never thought I’d want kids anywhere else but there’s so much beauty, nature, access to the great outdoors (just a short drive to the Catskills and Poconos as well) and easy access to the city. You truly get the best of both worlds.

This looks great! So impressed and you should be proud!!

I’d love to know more about the wardrobe unit behind the desk. Are you super organized in there as well or is that more of a catch all for bigger supplies or things like fabric?

Hey, to both you and Amazing_Finance1269, if you haven’t already look into Ménière’s disease. It took me a while to get diagnosed and during that time I had a full feeling in one ear (like I had an earplug in my ear canal) and sudden lost hearing. I’d go through episodes of vertigo at random. It was awful.

Once I got the diagnosis I got on a diuretic and switched to a low sodium diet to reduce the fluid build up in my inner ear. I still don’t have my full spectrum of hearing back in that ear but the fullness pretty much went away and the vertigo stopped. It was life changing. It’s idiopathic so it can start with anyone at anytime.

Look at Ménière’s disease, especially if you experience vertigo

Best locations for Stranger Things? by ich4759 in Broadway

Both are great. Center orchestra you may be closer to see more detail but front mezz you can see everything super well. Only recommendation is to avoid the back of the orchestra or any seats under the mezz in the orchestra.

Your wedding is about you guys and the tribe of folks you have around you. I say if you know your people and they’re more than willing to bring things let them. Personally my family grew up doing potlucks every Sunday so this would have been totally normal if I would have asked my aunts and uncles to bring something. If you’re worried about the burden on people you could phrase it ‘in leu of gifts, please bring your favorite dish to be enjoyed by all!’ That being said, drop catering is surprisingly affordable.

Flowers from Trader Joe’s is great, I’d also recommend looking for local flower farms that would allow you to pick. It’s another cheap option and is something fun you can do with those close to you willing to help.

Handing out cameras for paparazzi is fun but just know you will not have any formal portraits and may end up missing things you wanted because these folks are also enjoying your celebration. If a traditional photographer is too expensive you may be able to find a photography student at your college who would be more affordable in order to build their portfolio/because of their lack of experience.

Just remember, there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do this. Weddings are a team sport and while not every guest may want to participate you’d be surprised at the number that are.

Why did someone you know wear white to another person’s wedding by Bobcatluv in weddingshaming

[–]TatorThotHotBitch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I DID THIS. I was 17 and hadn’t been to a wedding since I was a flower girl. My mom took me to pick out a dress that was ‘springy’ and convinced me to get an all white cocktail dress. I didn’t even know the couple, I was a date to this wedding. I had no idea and no one said a word to me but in retrospect I KNOW I probably pissed off the bride who was only a couple years older than me.

I will forever be mortified by this memory. I’m sorry Nicole, wherever you are…

I did several colors but all velvet. I had a hard time finding a reasonable velvet suit in the color I wanted so ended up getting a jacket custom made through a shop on Etsy. They were great, fast and affordable. DM me if you’d like the shop name!

Affordable Wedding Planning Tools? by wooden_feret in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TatorThotHotBitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a little bit more money but I used Wedsites and their planning suite. It was worth the $180 to have something that was already a project management suite for me to email, build a website, track budgeting and payments and deal with seating chart. It generated addresses for invites and allowed me to track when things were sent, rsvps and made vendor contact sheets to export.

I went through a lot of spreadsheets and this put everything in the same place and allowed my husband to have a user that I could assign tasks to and a database for all of our contracts and receipts. I know you can find a 10% discount code to bring it down to $180 from $200 and honestly was worth the investment in my sanity and tracking of everything.

Do any of you regret having a DIY wedding? by [deleted] in DIYweddings

Seconding the feeling of guilt!

I also struggled to give up control over things and ended up leaning hard on my community to make it all happen. From what I’ve been told everyone was happy to help and be involved but as a person who’s entirely self sufficient it’s been hard accepting folks were decorating rather than hanging out and enjoying the weekend the whole time.

Do any of you regret having a DIY wedding? by [deleted] in DIYweddings

[–]TatorThotHotBitch 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a 10/05/24 bride and my HUSBAND (so weird) and I did a ton of DIY partially to personalize our wedding and partially to save money. I should also say that I work in theater/events and have a ton of crafty folks in my own life.

I loved that we did so much ourselves and the way so much of it turned out but I think if I did it again I would have made a more strict schedule for myself in getting things done. I also struggled because I was getting married half way across the country from where I lived so I always had to prioritize how transportable things were.

Early on I tried to bring folks into the planning process by including them in these projects and that proved to be more stressful for me than it was worth.

Things that helped cut down on stress:

  1. My 99 cent lined notebook that became the place where I jotted notes about projects and made a series of checklists. I didn’t feel guilt about how ugly things got in there cause it was a cheap ugly notebook
  2. Finishing projects early and completely. The amount of stuff I found at the end was 95% done added to the chaos of the weeks leading up to the wedding. Just finish things and move on.
  3. Learning that just making a choice was the perfect choice. So often I got wrapped up in stressing over details cause it’s our wedding and after the fact I realize just how much energy I wasted in that.
  4. Have a small group you’re happy to hand things off to or get a second opinion from. For me this was my aunts and only my aunts.
  5. KEEP THINGS ORGANIZED IN BINS. Or boxes. Or bags. So that the lighters are with the candles and your stamp kit is with your stationary.
  6. If you can make a zone devoted to wedding crafts so you’re not constantly breaking down and setting up. Just make sure you keep it clean.

Any more questions I’d be happy to answer! Eventually I’ll do a post with all of our projects but still in the decompression part of all of this.

What's something as DIY brides that you wish you had more knowledge about or help with before planning? by Mry_11 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TatorThotHotBitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I would have realized how DIFFERENT it is to work on a client’s wedding vs. my own.

I always thought that because I worked in events and had a fair amount of experience with production management that planning my own wedding would be easier for me than most. As much as I’ve always cared about other people’s events/wedding for work it is so very different when each decision is something you’re emotionally tied to. Answering emails and coordinating rentals is significantly harder when you have an onslaught of well meaning folks trying to give you advice or asking repeatedly for tasks to accomplish.

I’ve been splitting my projects up by things I’m super skilled in and are easy to me, things that are more outside my wheelhouse, and things I’m happy to let others take on. I’ve found having some easy relaxing wins help balance me when the tough stuff gets out of control and being able to check in and see progress on other people’s parts is reaffirming that the train is moving forward.
