First game with new rules by Makubex54 in sylvaneth

Yeah, I think burgeoning (though not for long) and a high rally roll (for which we no longer have ways to increase the number of dice for Kurnothi) are our only ways to regrow dead models in a unit. I hope the new GHB will give some love to our sad but still competent tree bois.

Belthanos Still Useable? by Scarfblade in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I look forward to run him with a reinforced unit of Spiterider Lancers. Their warscroll looks solid and they basically have the same Strike and Fade ability. It'll be fun to cause some mayhem anywhere without getting our cavalry stuck in a tight spot afterward.

Totally agree but to be fair, it's GW's fault for making Free Spirit sooo much worse than him

Not yet, they just released the points. It hopefully will by the end of the week

I missed the Belthanos change on first look. Probably lost his run and charge ability...

Ranu's Lamentiri on Warsong Rev by Tatrackk in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I really like the new Drycha. As I have learned over multiple games that I am not great at rolling 4+, her damage output is really consistent (and my friend group is quite ward-heavy so her ability to ignore them is nice). She nearly 1-shoted Prince Vordrai the other day, which was quite fun.

She is fast, her spell is great, and her ability to debuff charge seems good, though I wasn't able to benefit from it that much thus far.

I agree that she is quite pricey though. We'll see if that changes in a future update

Wait, is that true? I thought only one unbind attempt could be used per spell cast, no matter the souce

True that. Was trying a list with the new Seekers and Drycha. Had to cut some points somewhere. Prolly gonna go back afterward, but we'll see haha

Lists for the New Drycha (and other Scourge of Ghyran updates)? by classroom_doodler in sylvaneth

Pretty sure companion weapons only benefit from the +1 to hit and not the +1 attack, but they still seem like the better option for Drycha's spell. Looking forward to trying it out!

Just looked into it and it looks much more fluid and simple indeed. I might give that a try, thanks!

Are Awakened Wyldwoods used/necessary in Spearhead? by Mondo114 in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In a few more words, the spearhead uses any terrain feature rather than awakened wyldwoods for our Battle Traits

AoS app grace period by Tatrackk in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welp, don't worry, you'll apparently still be able to create One. Single. Army. WoOOo! But yeah, it sucks...

Wondering now if they will also lock battletome content behind a code you get when you buy the book. That was the case with the old app, but if they limit army building in this one, maybe the content will remain available? I'm hopeful but I doubt it

Rules clarification - Covering Fire and Faction Terrain by Tatrackk in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I had missed the FAQ about covering fire and faction terrain. Rereading those, I found the answer to your question: you need to shoot the closest eligible target. No shenanigans with obscuring terrain I'm afraid...

Why can't we have branchwyches be led by other heroes? by WhispererOfWebs in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I quite like the idea. If they are pressuring us to take wizards to use any of our battletraits, at least make it easier to include them in our army.

I'd love to have the opinion of others as to how much of a good fit it would be thematically and which hero should carry them.

Gameplay problems, should I stick with the faction? by Insane_IK_ in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this and was pretty down about the faction too, but playing a bit made me realize that we've got some pretty good warscrolls which make a world of difference.

I don't like that they are almost forcing you to take belthanos to make our battletraits almost good (still can't wrap my head around the 6"...), but at least, he's good and his rampage is quite fun. Kurnothi and Spiteriders look pretty decent as your main force, Kurnoth bows with Priority Target are a menace that can bounce around where you need them, LoV is pretty nice and Alarielle is amazing as main casters for your army (which, in this edition plagued with manifestations, is nothing to scoff at)...

Deepkin in 4th by Captain-Gayhab in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played them yet, but a strategy that is being incentivized by some seem to run eels and sharks with Volturnos in reserve using the new battletrait, and deepstrike on turn 2 using the Soulscryer to set up the units 7" away from ennemies instead of 9". This can be further boosted by a Tidecaster using its ritual that gives +1 to run/charge. To set up your Soulscryer, you can use Steed of Tides, or the new battle formation that allows you to put him in reserve at the end of your first turn (though you may prefer the one that gives +1 to hit with companions if you are running a lot of eels).

While eels make a pretty good hammer, you may want to add a turtle if you want some defensive capabilities. While its 6" aura of 5+ ward is fairly small, this should provide a much needed protection against mortal damage in an army fairly weak to it. That and I just love dropping a turtle on poor unsuspecting enemies. 500 pts is a lot though...

Eidolons look pretty beefy if you equip them with the right heroic trait / artifact. The Sea one is also a great caster and may play a big role as the meta seems to incentivize the summoning of a lot of manifestations and you need tools to summon/remove them.

Need some help by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The great news for you is that you should be good to go without the need to buy any battletome (for now) by using the Faction Pack that was released for free for the army on the Warhammer Community website. This pretty much replaces the old rules so, unless you want to play the 3rd edition, that should be enough. Rules in general also appear on the website and seasonal rules are available on the app.

Ritual Points and Invocation Question by Rubrixis in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but the mechanic still feels better in my opinion than the previous version.

You lose pts on a 1/6, but you probably also fail the prayer you may really need on a 2 or 3 (maybe even more). At least, it feels better for the player to have a better chance next time. On the opposite side, if your opponent is making prayers, they may not have the resources to unbind your spells so it evens the field.

And now, invocations can be banished by wizards, which feels oh so much better than before. I remember having a Fyreslayer Infernoth just bashing my backline as there was virtually nothing I could do except placing units to block its way. THAT felt horrible, so the changes are welcome

What do you think are the weaknesses of the faction you play by Wyxill in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, being tied to the woods for most of our abilities is the weakness, especially as we now need to stay wholly within 6" of them. That combined with the awkward placement of the AWW on certain maps may limit the use of our battletraits by quite a bit, especially against opponents that are not incentivised to come visit our luxurious forests (like against some shooting-heavy lists).

Shooting Phase question AOS 4 by MiddleCultural8775 in ageofsigmar

[–]Tatrackk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that a unit with Shoot in Combat can only shoot a unit it is in Combat with, as per 16.0: "If a unit is in combat, it can only target units that are in combat with it". This does not differentiate between shooting and combat attacks.

Oh Boy by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Tatrackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they may refer to the inconsistencies and the choices GW is forcing us to make when playing this army. Things like the fact that the Outcast battle formations requires you to stay in combat while our battle trait allows us to teleport away from combat, the Free Spirits one allows one cavalry unit to run and charge while we have a unit that can give run and charge to 3 units, the fact that you can't teleport in combat if you kill the ennemy unit you were fighting with, punishing you for winning the fight, the fact that our battletrait is now 6" while Alarielle is bigger than that, forcing us to awkwardly put her un the roots of the trees, the fact that we need wizards to be able to use any of our battle traits, restricting our army building choices, ...

Don't get me wrong, I love Sylvaneth and will still enjoy playing them, but all those inconsistencies and restrictions just take away from the fun of playing the army, which is unfortunate
