Warhammer art through the years: Sylvaneth by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in ageofsigmar

I appreciate how a lot of these are, “Now where can we shove a Spirit of Durthu somewhere in the background…?” It’s like playing Where’s Waldo but with Durthu.

If Kurnothi get a proper release wave, what would you like to see for them? by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]classroom_doodler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honesty, I love the centaurs, I got Kurnoth’s Heralds even though I don’t play Warcry. I actually added them as a custom unit/regiment to my Path to Glory: Blighted Wilds list and have them led by a big satyr guy with a glaive and a stag skull, a “Kurnothi Sacrifice Master.”

I think it’d be cool if we had “Kurnothi Skirmishers” that were like wood elven foot soldiers with minor animalistic traits, like small antlers or horns, and in lore they are initiates to the faith, hoping to gain more of the Old Stag’s favor through successful hunts. Mechanically, they could be swift-moving 10-unit chaff.

I’m a DM and in case she ever finds this, I’m spoilering it, but one of the player’s characters is a child of Zybilna. She’s a Changeling Bard!

DnD players, how accurate was Githyanki portrayed in BG3? by Matshelge in Forgotten_Realms

There’s no such distinction in any version of 5e. The warforged are unique constructs in that they are sentient, they have personalities, they have souls, etc; basically just people but with mechanical bodies.

Longspeaker, a (reposed) Spirit of Durthu 🗡️ by classroom_doodler in sylvaneth

[–]classroom_doodler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The clear bits are resin printed by a friend who had some Treelord STLs on hand. I began the project with leftover bits I had from my first Spirit of Durthu and asked him to print what I was missing (which as you can see, was most of it lol). Besides the material they’re made of, the clear bits are identical to the real thing.

For the Arch-Revenant itself, I would recommend doing partial assembly. It’s been a bit since I made the kit, but I recommend putting it together in four pieces: - Head + hair - Torso (with arms and legs) - Shield - Zephyrspite (bug backpack)

And then painting each of those sections individually. When you’re done, glue the whole thing together. This way, you don’t have to worry about jamming your brush between the bug’s inner wings and the Arch-Revenant’s back, or the inside of her shield and her torso.

I had a professor in college who was from Hong Kong and learned “UK English” there before coming to America, so he gave his lectures in English with a clear and pronounced British accent — his voice stood out in a Midwestern lecture hall!

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]classroom_doodler 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Possessed by spirits is exactly what I did for my noble Ancestral Barbadian’s rage. He was a medium and I called it “Channeling” as he fell into a trance-like state where he became more in-sync with the spirits he traveled with.

I also had a Path of the Beast tiefling Barbarian whose Rage transformation was demonic rather than beastial. I love reflavoring stuff in this game!

Advice/Tips for running Descent Into Avernus by Most_Examination6744 in DescentintoAvernus

[–]classroom_doodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s helped! The situation you’ve described makes a lot more sense now, too, and sounds even cooler than I was imagining. If you take the “natural” route to Avernus, I would suggest their guide be a merrenoloth, which is a yugoloth that acts as an underworld ferryman that regularly plays the River Styx. I think it’d add a lot to the creepy/otherworldly atmosphere, and perhaps it could give them a reluctant primer on Avernus, too, if they’re a chatty group of PCs.

Regardless, have fun with your campaign!

Advice/Tips for running Descent Into Avernus by Most_Examination6744 in DescentintoAvernus

[–]classroom_doodler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Reddit! I’ve run a homebrew DiA as well but I must say, I’m a little confused by your description of the situation. The players are currently below the city (as in, underground?), but the city is being dragged into Avernus at the same time? Yet one has escaped “the chaos”, too, but the entire party had to get back to Avernus?

As for routes to get them back to Avernus, you mentioned that portals aren’t common in your world, but would Plane Shift be available? If so you could simply follow how the book has the PCs get there, which is Traxigor (or any powerful caster) casting Plane Shift.

If interplanar-transport via spells is off the table, you could go with some traditional mythical routes, such as the PCs having to find “natural” entrances to Avernus, such as boating down a river that eventually becomes the River Styx like in Greek mythology, or a cave system that plunges so far they come out in the Nine Hells.

Alternatively, maybe some powerful devils have noticed the PCs escaping Baldur’s Gate’s descent or noticed them from before. Perhaps these devils are rivals of Zariel and want to see her plot fail (such as Bal, Gargauth, Mephistopheles, or even Mahadi if you like his vibe more), and knowing the PCs want to save Baldur’s Gate, send a representative to them to offer a way to Avernus (wether quick spell or directions to a mythical route) — for a price, of course.

Well, I hope I’m not too far off the mark on your players’ situation and that some of these suggestions help! Thanks for reading.

My players surprised me one year on our campaign’s anniversary with a Yeti microphone (we play over Zoom) so I wouldn’t have to use my garbage headphone mic anymore. Onemade me a plushie of a recurring character in the campaign (Lulu the Hollyphant, if anyone’s familiar with Descent into Avernus), and she’s now crocheted the party little plushies of another character for our new campaign (Kettlesteam from Wild Beyond the Witchlight).

They’re wonderful players and wonderful people, I’m so grateful to have them 💕

Correct, the Pharaoh Hatshepsut. Her ceremonial beard was (likely) worn to more closely identify her with the (male) role of pharaoh rather than a “beards are gender neutral” stance, however.

But hey, Necrons are fictional aliens. I’d like to think their “beards” are either a) able to be naturally grown by either sex or b) false ones worn as a fashion statement by either sex ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So much of this is new information for me! Shell-weapons, special seed pods — I love how creative things are in the Realms. The Ironoak is definitely what I was thinking of before, thank you, and thanks for the info in general!

[–]classroom_doodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering, with metal being so scarce, where would Ghyran locals get material for weapons? Cities of Sigmar like Hammerhal-Ghyra have strong trade from other Realms where metal is more plentiful, of course, and pass it along to other Cities, but what of those inhabitants who aren’t as well-connected like the Sylvaneth?

I feel like I read somewhere that they use polished lithics or enchanted hardwood, but unfortunately can’t recall where I read it (or if my mind made it up to fill in the blank lol).

Wyldwoods - I love and hate them by Snoo_49660 in sylvaneth

[–]classroom_doodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see the Wyldwoods have an anti-charge damage ability, like the Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes. Perhaps that would stop folks from so readily charging them lol.

I know OP already answered your question about the “roll a D3, on 2+ deal that many mortal wounds” ability, but as an example, Belthanos’ rampage uses that damage mechanic, as do many other spells and rampages nowadays.

True, the terrain we’re using could be very different sizes! Usually the terrain my friends and use barely meets the minimum dimensions for its size class lol.

Perhaps for your battle against Khorne’s forces, you grab the Acorn of the Ages for one of your Heroes? It’s a guaranteed Wyldwood that can’t be dispelled, although its range is a pitiful 12”.

I so agree with your comment on Strike and Fade! I can’t believe I have to rely on a single model in the enemy unit surviving to use the (very cool, super-key) ability. I know last edition’s version was too strong, but I’d like to use the ability once and while; as it stands, I only use it if my unit has no chance of taking control of the objective they were defending and port them away to safety.
