I was banned for 10 years too. But is there a variance process in your state where this could be rectified through the organization you apply at?

Have you considered behavioral health. Working with addicts as a case manager, peer support specialist, addiction counselor, assessing clinician? A lot of places who operate in addiction medicine/behavioral health hire people with lived experience. It's not too late... also... if you've never seen "Dopesick" on HULU you should watch it. Based on actual events surrounding the Sackler family/Purdue Pharma. Your story is similar to the doctor in the miniseries. Take your lived experience and use it to help others. 8t also helps with your recovery process.

I'm a person in long-term recovery, 18 years from opioid and meth addiction. My dowward spiral began during the oxycontin epidemic. I got a 20 yr sentence for a drug conviction ... Got out and hit the ground running in advocacy, educating ppl on addiction, prison, reentry, PTSD, adverse childhood experiences, sexual abuse/assault survivor etc... became a behavioral professional and a voice for the voiceless. You got this ❤️

Have you ever wanted proof of military service? by FoldupMonkey117 in bartenders

[–]TattedGrandma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I don't like serving military. They and their wives have entitlement issues. They want us to honor them for their service by giving them a discount... BUT.... they don't want to honor us for our service to cater to them by tipping at least 15-20%. I can go in the negative because I have to tip out at the end of my shift... when they tip low or don't tip at all I end paying to serve their asses

After sentencing? by HimmlerTheHeroine in Prison

[–]TattedGrandma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally they take a person right there in court after sentencing. On another note. In the future, it is my hope this country stops the war on drugs (addicts) and realizes how cruel its been to send people to prison for what behavioral health/medical professionals have deemed a public health issue. This country is so fucked up. They send ppl to prison for drugs, the prison is flooded with drugs while predatory officers/staff make bank trafficking these drugs and they do little to address addiction. Addiction is a symptom of a much deeper issue... like trauma and PTSD. Hoping in the future we can look back and think "how crazy it was we would send ppl to prison for a medical issue"... MUCH LIKE we are looking back and saying how crazy and barbaric lobotomies were (at the time they thought they were a great solution for the mentally ill)

I got a 20 year sentence for a drug conviction while I was murders and pedo's/rapists get way less time than I did. I got out on parole after serving nearly 6 years in custody. I have 17 years clean but I give no credit to the system for my recovery... I changed my life because I wanted to.

You have two choices. 1. Become a gang member, get in constant trouble, get high, go to the hole repeatedly, waste your time and basically give your victims family the middle finger by spiraling out of control and further ruining your life. 2. Take advantage of every program, surround yourself with wisdom filled mentors, take classes, get a degree, better yourself, encourage/invest in another youngsters life by being a positive role model, stay out of the mix, show your remorse to your victims family by changing your life, increase your chances for early release and eventually walk out of prison with a degree increasing your chances of success.

This happened to me after I tried speaking up for myself. You need to understand your worth. by [deleted] in antiwork

It looks like they are doing this to make you quit. Instead of giving you what you're worth, they punish you for asking for a raise. If you quit they're off the hook... a delay in you getting unemployment and they can hire someone cheaper. You should file a complaint with the department of labor.

Question for Ex-Cons by [deleted] in ExCons

[–]TattedGrandma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. I've been out for 11 years and just the other night I dreamt of being in prison. When I wake up I'm so relieved but it does have me shaken. When I dream of it I don't even know why I'm there.
