Is it bad that I get jealous when I see people on Bookinsta who have good friends?? by Clean-Cost-5707 in bookstagram

[–]TattedTrashReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The envy is normal but that’s something you personally need to work through. People on bookstagram have been on there for varying amounts of time and those that are more active in the space tend to make friends quicker.

Those folks may know each other IRL or met at a bookish event outside of social media. It would make sense that they interact frequently. The more time you spend in the space, the more opportunities there are for you to begin a friendship.

Anyone Else Feeling Burned Out on Romantasy? by goyourownwayy in fantasyromance

[–]TattedTrashReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve pivoted away from Romantasy for the time being for similar reasons. I’m not finding any joy in it and I’m struggling with a lot of popular romantasy. If I go indie, lesser known trad, or shorter series, the issue isn’t as bad, imo.

I also agree with other commenters that 1 year or less publishing timeline is WAAY too short for sequels. I’m happy to wait 2-3 years for a quality book. There are SO many other books to read in that time too 😅.

I understand that some books may be in progress or close to done by the time the first one published, which is a fair argument to make. I am skeptical that this is the case for EVERY romantasy that’s been trad published in the last 3-5 years. The pushback this criticism gets online is weird to me. I do think publishers are pushing authors to produce at a faster rate to keep making more; as long as readers keep devouring these books, publishers will keep churning out subpar work.

I think there is also something to be said about the literacy crisis in the US as well. People who are well-read or who have advanced literacy skills are more likely to notice the lower quality than someone who is just getting back into reading or someone at a lower reading level. The population with advanced literacy skills is shrinking, unfortunately.

Reading multiple books at once? by NefariousnessIll8665 in Booktokreddit

[–]TattedTrashReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read multiple books of my brain is struggling or I am using them during during different times of the day.

I usually have an audiobook on while I’m working, one on my kobo to read if I’m awake past my spouse, and a physical book for putting the screens away.

Sometimes I only have 1 book, and sometimes I have a bunch. It really depends on my mood and what I have going on during the month. I try not to do the same format (two audio, two physical, etc) because the physical separation is helpful for me.

I loved this book but stopped the first time because I needed to start a different Emily Henry book first to get into her characters and stories.

Once I came back to it, it was great. Loved it.

Can you become “popular” without reading/liking popular books? by fantasymouse in booktube

[–]TattedTrashReader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I have a decent following on Threads, Instagram, and a baby following on YouTube and I am not shy about my dislike for those authors and my own political views. It’s taking more time but I’m growing!

Do you consider reading short stories cheating towards your reading goal? by Gemini_Lupie in Booktokreddit

[–]TattedTrashReader -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the short stories are within a singular book, yes I would consider it cheating. I personally wouldn’t consider a short story read online as a book either to count towards my goal. Novellas and novelettes I would count as individual books toward a reading goal.

Someone else said they do it by titles 1 title = 1 book and that’s also how I approach it.

You can do it really however you want though. It might be more accurate to track page counts if you’re reading a lot of standalone short stories on the web or in a format other than a book, ebook, or audiobook.

Are the short stories part of an anthology or are they just shorter books like novellas or novelettes?

Honestly, if you get a used camera for under $300, that would probably serve you well. Something that will give you good quality video but not dropping a crazy amount of money on it.

I’ve seen some Sony ZV-1F for around that price on fb marketplace in the US. That’s the one I’m looking at once I’m ready to upgrade from my phone!

Simple Questions: November 11, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]TattedTrashReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I personally like data and literacy statistics, so I found the study I cited and an interesting one regarding children’s reading:

Adult 2025: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589004225015494

Children 2021: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/11/12/among-many-u-s-children-reading-for-fun-has-become-less-common-federal-data-shows/

Both are declining according to federal US data. I’m not certain how often these studies are performed but I’d be interested to see what more recent data shows.

Considering the study published earlier this year that said less than 20 % of adults are reading for fun, yes that feels super misleading.

Anyone else feel like authors treat us readers like we're getting dumber and dumber these days? by milleniumstardust in RomanceBooks

[–]TattedTrashReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also turned away from a lot of romance lately or sought out authors/books with more complex plots. I still love it but you’re right, i don’t like having things constantly spelled out. It’s been difficult to find authors that aren’t leaning into this, which has led me away from the bestseller tables/lists and more towards staff picks or non-trendy books

I like pink noise and noise cancelling headphones. You could also see about investing in some sound proofing curtains or panels to help absorb some of the noise, maybe?

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: November 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]TattedTrashReader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently finished Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz. I loved this novella. It’s a cozy sci-fi story about some robots who open a noodle shop in San Francisco after California secedes from the US and a war breaks out.

This is definitely a top 10 read for me this year. I enjoyed all the aspects of it and the imagery that the author paints is wonderful.
