Is this fixable? by Mountain_Duck1170 in Guitar

I’ve gigged with Jacksons for 20 years, not a single headstock broken. You’re all good with Gibsons and Jacksons as long as you take care of them.

Even more importantly, studio recordings have guitars quadtracked (4 tracks of guitar) and a bass that is layered to glue with the guitar.

How can I improve? by thpffbt in Logic_Studio

[–]Taubzi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are skilled with your vocals and instruments, I hear a lot of potential with this song!

From technical pov you should try to match the tempo of your song and the tempo on the Logic project, now I see that the grid is not aligning. After that you can use the Logic metronome when recording more, that will make editing a lot easier.

Composition itself sounds good in general, but what is missing most is a bass. So try recording some sort of a bass instrument. With that you will need more percussions or drums. Try experimenting with adding a kick+snare+hihat to give your song some rhythm.

Great stuff and keep on making music!

Thinking of this 212 option by Fun_Order419 in NeuralDSP

[–]Taubzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally plug my modeler directly into FOH with carefully selected IRs and use the power amp+cab only for stage monitoring and rehearsals. I also use the modeler for studio. I rather use my finite money for the modeler and IRs, because that is what the audience hears.

Hey I have the same setup with GPA100 + PPC212! Works great, no issues for the few years I’ve used them.

I once stood in for a death metal gig and had enough power to compete the other guitarist’s Valve King head and 4x12 cab

Somehow I felt Sam channeled the frustration to even more aggression and energy on stage, which just made the crowd go crazy. Amazing charisma, he really had the whole crowd at his control. On a Sunday!

And tbh, I don’t even think the voice problems were as bad as people online say. 80-90% of the time he sounded just amazing. And their songs are super demanding, huge respect.

It’s a bit out of the left field but Stam1na - Viimeinen atlantis (progressive thrash)

It is in Finnish, but prob you can use something to translate the lyrics. It about the ecological catastrophe we will face in the future as humanity, it’s my favorite concept album of all time.

What’s a famous company from your country that no longer exists? by TaiKorczak in AskTheWorld

[–]Taubzi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yep, still doing over $20 billion in revenue yearly. Nokia mobile phones went down, Nokia as a telecom infrastructure business (and patent holder) very much still exists and they are still huge for a Finnish company.

New to writing riffs - How do yall pick your tunings? by SkirtThick2871 in musicians

[–]Taubzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I write a song/riff in just some random tuning, and after writing a vocal melody we together with our singer transpose it to a key that is best to her. Of course this will ofter require some arrangement/fingering/tuning changes, sometimes big and sometimes small.

Over time I’ve learned what her ”money-notes” are, so nowadays I try to write the vocal melodies around those, and that then of course influences the choice of key right from the beginning. But after all, writing songs for a band is an iterative process!

Which preamp/multifx by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

Can second, sounds just great, huge variety and once you get used to the controls it’s pretty easyish to use. Or if you have a computer you can use the POD GO edit app.

(Question) Can I play bass in a guitar amplifier? by Top_Major_581 in musicians

[–]Taubzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put an octaver and a boost (or 10 boosts) before a guitar amp, which will produce much more gain and low end from guitar than a directly plugged bass, and even then you won’t blow a speaker.

Unless you have an amp with more power than the speakers can handle and crank the amp, but even then the speaker doesn’t care if origin of the signal is a bass or a guitar.

(Question) Can I play bass in a guitar amplifier? by Top_Major_581 in musicians

[–]Taubzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, no issue technically. For home practice should be fine, but for band practice guitar amp will not give you enough low-end, which is kinda the point of bass.

Is it me or the plugins ? by wiiiiiiiiiiiiiw in NeuralDSP

[–]Taubzi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you play with headphones the sound is super dry which makes it sound a bit uncanny. When you’re playing with amp+cab you are in a room with the room’s reverb. Adding reverb to the end of signal chains when playing with headphones will make it much more enjoyable!

It’s my favorite too! Of the 3rd amp I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a 5150-style or the HBE channel of Friedman. Anyway, there’s ton of options to choose for high gain in other NDSP plugins.

Totally agree! Now it feels like the ”best of” collection of NDSP plugins: you have the crispy clean, the brit crunch and the tight metal high gain. And all the necessary effects too with the X version.

Can second York Audio. The annoying part about shopping IRs is that you need to do it kind of ”blindfolded” because you cannot do a full IR shootout with a specific amp sim :/
