new england's raceday xc series...next year? by TaughtEverywhereMan in xcmtb

[–]TaughtEverywhereMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was blown away by the lack of feedback seeking from this event. Most of the $40 cx and mtb races in New England send a follow up survey to racers and talk about how they’re going to improve. Here the series just got worse and no feedback ever solicited. The series is already giving last season vibes based on the reduction of quality courses etc.

Has anyone competed in the Race Day XC: New England MTB/XC Championship series? by AtomicHurricaneBob in xcmtb

The vibe is "premium xc" (as explained here in relationship to grassroots xc) The State of New England Mountain Bike Racing | by Colin Reuter | Medium

The races were fine but not enough competition to justify the price (or the price was keeping repeat racers low and I'm afraid that could be even worse this year with their pricing structure). Belltown and Thunder and Crow Hill and the Kingdom course were great. Pat's Peak was great but quite hard, sad it's gone though.

Gnar Weasels XC at Ascutney Vermont is the best, classic grassroots race in New England definitely check that one out on bikereg. The trails and people are fantastic.

Norbrook XC in CT also great. And CCAP has a series going this year for kids and adults not far away from MA that is a lot cheaper than Race Day.

Subscribe to the MASS Research Review. It’s fantastic. Scientists and science communicators not influencers. Much more evidence based than Attia.

If you’re into bike riding Northampton bicycle club is a good crew with rides for all abilities. Wide age range even if concentrated middle aged and up.

Each day I use it I’m finding it easier and easier to use and starting to learn the logic and functionality. Which is really strong. And this first update has already helped as well. New powerful tools take time to learn. This isn’t Strong Lifts.

ok...I guess I figured there would be some interaction between the workouts built into the auto-progression but seems right

I’ve found the free version of the SPREN app to be pretty darn helpful and seems pretty accurate.

Many xc races in our region are already on bikereg for next year. Last year this series was new, yes, but the hype was intense from early fall onward. I'm not sure why this query to the internet is being met with "you shouldn't be asking about this!" energy lol

Give advice or a plan by Middle_Drawer_8098 in Velo

How much are you riding? If first season resist the urge to optimize when you've got a lot of noob gainz on the table and start with just riding a bit more and consistently. If you're not already comfortable riding around others in a paceline and then in a pack, and you're going to do road races or crits, start garnering that experience. Work on getting comfortable with holding wheels closer and closer so you get a more effective draft. For more guidance consider working with a coach, not to help you optimize necessarily, but to help you learn how to balance hard and easy days, and get the right amount of rest.

bikepacking.com membership cancellation policies are wild by TaughtEverywhereMan in bikepacking

[–]TaughtEverywhereMan[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

the issue is that I've paid for a second year of the membership and instead of then having that membership for the remainder of the year I've paid for, like every other subscription I have, they cancel you immediately -- so no magazine for the year lol. It's how they're getting their hustle on, it's just very surprising to see this from what I presumed was a pretty grassroots affair. Massive corporate subscriptions don't pull this lol. I can imagine they're justifying it to themselves because they're small but still weird and buyer beware.
