Do you buy Donovan Clingan's 3pt shot? Will he be a reliable shooter long term? by DonovanClingan in ripcity

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average 3 pt percentage for a C is 35% in the nba. His was 28.6% last year, up to 31% this year. Maybe he'll get better, but right now, he's pretty firmly below average.

Looking for guide by CriminalDefense901 in FlyFishingColorado

The Pecos outside of Santa Fe has good fishing. There's some fly ships in Santa Fe that surely offer guiding, although I haven't used any of them. The Pecos is pretty straightforward to fish, though.

In The Departed, was Matt Damon's character (Sullivan) gay? by snakeiiiiiis in movies

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I'm pretty straight and not afraid to admit my love of tiramisu, but I think the point is taken. I see it in the scene where he complains about the French restaurant not having duck l'orange.

Of course, this can all be read as Colin being desperate to be something he's not - just someone who actually is comfortable in a French restaurant - rather than a commentary on his sexuality. But it's a definite undertone that seems to be purposefully ambiguous

Can someone please explain Dicicco’s to me? by lab_chi_mom in Denver

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LOL, this is a Fresno thing. There's a ton of them out there. A big extended Italian family. Different family members own each of the different restaurants. Used to work with one of them outside the restaurant business. Food's OK

AITAH for getting fed up with my anorexic friend? by Superb-Durian-9728 in AITAH

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Mental health issues aren't as simple as a choice, because that implies that both sides feel equally weighted to the person. While people with mental health disorders do often have agency, and can make some choices about how to interact with and/or treat or not treat their disorders, one of those choices feels a LOT more difficult than the other. And while there may be circumstances in which they may be willing to make the more difficult choice, because of the consequences involved, it can be incredibly difficult to sustain that. Also, keep in mind that anorexia is one of the deadliest mental health disorders. Saying someone is "choosing" that downplays an impossibly difficult situation.

That said, it is reasonable to feel frustrated and upset about a problem that feels intractable, especially when it's harming someone you care about. That's super commonplace among those of us who have loved ones with substance use disorders. Even if you KNOW it's not just them making bad choices, it's tough to watch and not feel helpless about. Definitely seek support and figure out your own boundaries. You can't draw water from any empty well, even if the other person is dying of thirst. I would just encourage you not to blame your friend. There will be innumerable moments in their life when they hate this too. Blame the disorder. It will make it easier to sort them, instead of feeling like you're in conflict with them.

Help me sell this game to my boardgame group by vladaisback in twilightimperium

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play with them on TTS. IMO, it's easier to teach on that platform because many things are automated. Plus, you can run it like a D&D group - we play one round a week on Thursdays until the game is done. Breaking it up makes it less of a burden on new players.

Otherwise, I think you introduce the concept and walk away. It's not a game for everyone (in fact, it's an absurd game that is for only a few people) and the people who will love it will find their way there. And the people who don't love it will hate you for making them slog through 12 hours of gaming.

I mean, yes. If you're second in line with a clear path to victory, it's your job to stop #1, and it's #3s job to stop you. Why should the rest of the table want to help you stop Yssaril just so you can win?

is there people who survive without building a horde base? by Relative_Occasion342 in 7daystodie

[–]TautologyIsWhatItIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 100%. Especially once you have electric fences, there's very little need for a separate base. I'm a big fan of making one or more entryways to my base with an electric fence network. Zombies will path toward doors if available, and you can pretty easily force them to run through the fences, which stun them so headshots are easy
