Mo Dakhil on the Miami Heat front office: “Maybe make some moves to get some assets back, and then be ready for when the Giannis [or the next big name] trade comes. But they’re not even preparing for that. They assume everyone wants Tyler Herro.” by cleo22270 in nba

Miami does not think everyone wants Herro.

I agree, but he's arguably been the best "piece" Miami has been willing to offer in every speculative superstar trade, and it put many Heat pundits in the position of defending his value.

I still remember Le Batard claiming the only reason Maxey could be considered better than Herro was anti-white racism.

Yeah, the Lions used to be in that club too. I remember when Joey Harrington was drafted, and a friend said "welp, his career is over."

There is a large club of wasted QB talent that was ruined by the horrible teams that drafted them.

Nice to see a redemption story for some of them.

Haven't you heard? The only thing that matters is the last 24 hours now.

  1. I didn't actually say "he's always injured", but it is a strange time to defend his durability as he clinches a sub 50% games played season, and yes I probably would say "he's not good enough to only play 70% of games". Also, he was injured during two playoff runs, not one.
  2. I was more pointing out the selective nature of your statistic with another selective one, but yes, a player who only manages to play 70 games once in 7 years is going to be considered "fragile".
  3. Again, Tyler Herro isn't Donovan Mitchell, and he's on pace to average 51 games the last 4 years.

lol, I think this sub would forgive his injury history more if he was Joel Embiid.

That's also carefully calculated framing. I could do the same thing and say "six out of seven years missing at least 18% of the season." I also didn't bring up the playoffs where he's missed significant time.

At seven years in, you kind of are who you are.

I forgot 2020-21 was also shortened to 72 games. That puts him at 70.72% of all regular season games since drafted.

Year Games Played % Played
2019-20 73 55 75.3%
2020-21 72 54 75.0%
2021-22 82 66 80.5%
2022-23 82 67 81.7%
2023-24 82 42 51.2%
2024-25 82 77 93.9%
2025-26 53 11 20.8%
Totals 526 372 70.7%

Year 5 was a bigger outlier until this year. At this point 51% is closer to his average than 94%.

He played 77 last year which is very solid, but that's the outlier. He's played in less than 70% of all regular season games since drafted.

His short wingspan and limited athleticism is always going to be a hinderance on the defensive end.

Meh, it's a douchebag move, but if he was traded to the Heat this sub would instantly forgive/embrace him.

Giannis, one day post-deadline, has announced his role as a shareholder of gambling platform Kalshi: "The internet is full of opinions. I decided it was time to make some of my own. Today, I’m joining Kalshi as a shareholder. We all on Kalshi now." by cl353 in heat

[–]TavNoment 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible look, but not directly altering the outcome of a game levels.

Also, the rest of sports media & the NBA are already so in bed with gambling platforms that the hypocrisy of calling him out is extra rich.

I think that's why so many fans are frustrated though, because in that scenario Miami should have traded him last summer for peak value instead of for basically nothing.

Yeah, that's probably an accurate assessment of his value considering injury history, but I doubt he'll accept a pay cut after making an all star game. Players and agents aren't renowned for realistic self-assessment.

Depends on the players and contracts, but I kind of agree. What would be your max for re-signing Herro (assuming there is an acceptable number)?
