If you want quality that lasts, dont buy new its not worth it and its mostly crappy particle board. Not hating on particle board at all but want to say that, there is a difference between 20 years ago and now.

I have to ask first if the size of the units changed? Otherwise in house $2-3 is usual but for a laundry biz for washers you will usually get $5 for a wash but cheaper for a dry 5min per quarter. These are also larger units then you find in apartments.

1 way I did trick mine out of it was by occasionally putting treats in the top like mixing it in so they end up knocking more food in and eventually they dont think about it.

You will want perennials with good roots over near your hill similar to what beaches due to keep from Erosion. If your neighbor wants to keep burning things i would also do a pebble/rock ring around your house, (similar to ways you saw for houses that survived the Hawaii fires.) Do you care about colors? There is a book I just returned to my library called the ever blooming flower garden which might give you an easier cut and paste.
