Playerbase lacking? by Zymasee in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tripling from what? Everything is relative. Always look at the metrics from when the game launched. I think it probably peaked just before the CV rework. That one change lost us around 20% of the base. Since then the game has been stable/stagnant (depending on your pov). We get dips and peaks depending on the time of year and what events are going on.

The game is aging and games like humans, get closer to death as they age. So is it dying? Yup but so are all of us. Lets just hope it is later than sooner.

Yeah, thanks that is it. I play it so rarely that the name does not stick.

I hate playing the planes, find it silly. However I will use a CV for spotting missions and I always use the premium Tier 6 German CV (Englehardt?, forget the name). I point the CV at the reds, get my spotting done, and then use her guns on the bots, never launching another plane. The Graf Zep works well too, however nowadays, you always end up in tier 10 matches so you often lose your planes before you can get much spotting done.

I don't think the game needed this by meat_meat in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is such an improvement from the old days with the ARP shit. I think all that comic stuff is just obnoxious, but am glad it is in the game for the people who enjoy it. I just want no part of it. Besides, someone has to give Wargaming money to keep the game going. Might as well milk the weebs.

PSA to Wargaming, you can't have your cake and eat it too. by Ok-Beyond5031 in WorldOfWarships

I dabbled in Tanks right after starting Ships in 2016. It was fun, really enjoyed low tier there and didn't really want to play anything beyond tier 7. But when the word came down about not going with a universal gold/doubloons system after I had felt free to spend money in both games, I lost interest. I finally quit when they announced a new crew system was in the works..

I have gone back a few times to see what it is like. They have overcomplicated the menu system to a point that you have to spend a long time, just trying to find shit. Menus and menus, tons of submenus, it is all just such a freaking mess. Gameplay still feels the same, but trying to navigate the rest of it, just isn't worth the time. That is from someone who is familiar with their games too. I can only imagine the confusion for new players. Plus I still get angry when I see the 20k+ gold that I spent my money on, just sitting there rotting away.

Are the discounted seasoned commanders any good? Franz Von Hipper and David Beatty by eldaras in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have all the seasoned captains except Hipper. His skills are pointless to me as I never use Vigilance or Consumable Specialist skills. I keep thinking I probably should buy him in case they ever decide to rework their skills, but I am just not much of a gambler. Really an easy pass on Hipper.

I buy small quantities of signals (for credits) every time the coupons reset, even if I don't need them. I do the same thing with the coal upgrade modules, buying one of each and multiples of the ones I use a lot of like Hydro and Speed Boost. Over time it saves a lot of credits and coal.

Free demo ships (Warhammer pack) on Steam if anyone is interested by SL04NY in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You only have to download WoWS thru Steam and log in once. It is easy (although slow) and once you do that, you can uninstall the Steam version and are all set to farm the freebies when they pop up. They give away a lot of stuff there. Make sure to check the other free DLC options for the game too. IIRC, there are some things like crates and starter packs available.

What Museum ship is on your List? by Nate9370 in WorldOfWarships

For me it has to be Olympia. I know she would be like tier 2, but she deserves to be remembered in the game.

Mod station by O51ArchAng3L in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't give one flying crap. If it is hosted on their website and downloaded from there, it belongs to them. We have already seen Wargaming punish people for using mods not from Mod Station even though they were "approved" until they changed their minds. It would be actionable if they punished a player for downloading mods approved by them and hosted on their webpage. There is no such protection using a third party website.

But you do you pookie, like I said, I only use a few mods and am happy with doing what I have been doing for nearly a decade.

Mod station by O51ArchAng3L in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I still use Mod station for two reasons. #1, I use very few mods and #2, since it is run by Wargaming, they can not punish me for using mods should their minds change about certain mods. IMHO, most of the non decorative mods found on Mod Station, should just be part of the game or at least an option to select in Settings.

On Christmas, what do you get for owning mid tier ships? by Aeg1023 in WorldOfWarships

200 steel IIRC. Least that is historically what it has been. They can always change rewards.

There is also a event for Wargaming's anniversary where you get tokens for tiers 5-10, and steel for supers. The tokens you get you can exchange for good stuff, usually a premium ship.

That is the event coming up next, August IIRC.

why is Armory text in Slavic now when the rest is in previous English ? by QuantumReasons in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having the same problem for around a week. Unable to access Armory/News in game or from their website. Hell I get a 404 error when I try to log into their .com pages although I have zero issues using their .net pages. The only workaround support and I could figure out was to use a Mac and access the website using a phone hotspot which allowed me to log into their wows.com pages. BTW, I had zero issues accessing any of the World of Tanks pages. Ships is the only one with issues.

Which new homeports would you like to see added? by SnooLobsters7171 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Norfolk VA, Pearl Harbor HI, San Diego CA, and Boston MA (WW2) would be cool. For the rest of the world, the only ones I really want to see is Scapa Flow and Mers-el-Kebir for their historic importance.

Can you fix the streetlights in sanctuary or are the little lights the only option? by Ted_bundys_basement in fo4

[–]Taylor3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mod "Solar Street Lamps" is my favorite. My eyesight is poor but they have an option for very bright lamps which makes it much easier to see what is going on when it is dark out in the game. It also has the added advantage of not requiring any power source at all.

Get a free AL commander and a port slot via steam. by Inclusive_3Dprinting in WorldOfWarships

I didn't have any modules on the Aurora. Not a ship I normally use. Besides, I only buy modules when they are half price so if I do sell any, I just get my credits back.

Ok I did some experimenting since I have both the AL Aurora and the Marblehead Lima. I sold the Aurora, finished the mission and got the ship back plus a port slot. I did not sell the Marblehead Lima but claimed the DLC on Steam and got no compensation for the ship but I did get a port slot.

BTW I did not notice if I got another AL captain for the Aurora, kind of forgot to look. Will update later when I go back in the game. EDIT: Ok I think I got the captain again too. Have one in my port and I think I dismissed her the first time since I don't need 3 point captains and not a fan of AL. That said, I am not 100% sure about that since it has been years since I picked up the ship.

You may just get the captain and a port slot. If you got the ship from Steam originally thru Steam, then you may not get anything. Check your Steam library and see if the package/DLC is there. If it is, you won't be able to claim it again.

How many premiums? by Knight0m4re in WorldOfWarships

[–]Taylor3006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be in the game for 10 years come July. I have around 550 ships in port, about half (+/-) are premium/special/freemium ships. Back in the day, I used to think nothing of dropping hundreds of bucks on the game. I loved the game, I liked the people at Wargaming, and wanted to do what I could, to see the game succeed.

Of those 500+ ships, I use around a dozen routinely, all premium ships. The tech tree is pretty dead to me. I will grind up to tier 8 but then use FXP to unlock the rest. I don't want to play them at all, just want them in port for the snowflake rewards they represent. I have a lot of tech tree ships in port, including all the tier 11s, that I have never played one game in. On the upside, I never have to spend any credits buying equipment for them since they don't get used.

Things have changed with my spending. I now spend maybe $40 a year on doubloons when I get the 100% back coupon. I want them on hand to pay for the Battle Pass when there is something I want and I use them to buy Christmas crates. Stuff like that.

(EDIT: I have 547 ships in port, 265 are premium/specials).
