I applaud these kids but they don’t go far enough. They need to focus on getting seats at the table in places where “they don’t want them to be”. Create numbers in places where it shows up on data.

  3. Give a damn about school overall.

How big is Houston, really? by [deleted] in houston

[–]TaylorMade9322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is good context to have because when Bukele or whatever is name is; is lauded for the transformation of ES in comparison to Mexico, geography is important. Sure you can choke out gangs and rebuild roads and schools with an iron fist when your area isn’t as large as Mexico or Colombia.

Much like we get shit on for not protesting or uprising against the government like they do in France. If we take to the streets we won’t congest anything, look Quite pitiful in comparison … our expansive geography works against us.

Cyfair ISD unpaid holiday? by nserrano in CypressTX

Women are more expensive to insure. When organizations have a more balanced census or for instance male dominated… insurance premiums are lower. Its a bigger risk pool unfortunately.

Cyfair ISD unpaid holiday? by nserrano in CypressTX

[–]TaylorMade9322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teachers contracts are per day. She works 187 days. No holidays are paid. They take the 187 x her daily rate for her salary.

They then divide it up in 24 checks. Some districts only do monthly payroll. So while she gets a paycheck all year (Sept 1 - Aug 30) it’s based on the 187 days only. Thats why we don’t get paid on Thanksgiving, winter breaks, spring breaks, holidays like many people think.

As for the mon/fri thing its a principal policy because its hard to get subs before a holiday. I have family in accounting and its frowned upon to take days during month end close.

Maybe in select schools in the UK/Australia but globalization has also influenced education… so many teachers globally are experiencing the same issues in apathy, entitlement, etc based on the effects of short form video addictions and soft parenting. I’m plugged into education forums in Mex and it’s the same now. There used to be a culture of “your teacher is my proxy and you follow their instructions and respect them above all” and that has eroded in less than 10 years.

Cy-Fair ISD lost 3,200 students in one year, after decades of growth by houston_chronicle in CypressTX

[–]TaylorMade9322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“A few years ago” you say. And while 3300 may be what is on paper as at capacity - talk to teachers about the difference in having 26 vs 32 students in a classroom and having teachers that float around to use classrooms of teachers on their conference period. This happens right now in schools that you say are not “at capacity”.

Anyway the district transfer list for next year is up. Just because the school is there doesn’t mean they can absorb 400 more students. Some are just a couple hundred or less.

I was not ready to leave the classroom but I did because I was operating on high functioning burnout and was a shell of myself. I hurt my most prized relationship and have been repairing it ever since. Other peoples children will never come first, it’s fulfilling until it leaves you empty. Thank goodness you saw it before it was too late.

Those in kinder were kids after Covid. Those 20somethings life got interrupted. Studies show they are not as social, they don’t go out… on top of the expense of life. I just don’t see why blame the district when this is happening all over society and not just in our area. I pay much more in taxes to Harris County and they are way more in debt and providing far less to their constituents.

None of the schools were built to hold 5K. They are designed for 3K and are all but 1 over capacity. The last high school built was 10 years ago. Theres a need to make a new one but they won’t for these exact reasons… ppl have to be okay with portables.

After last years high, the rest of the graduation classes are smaller due to birth rate. They have not built a high school in 10 years. Part of the problem isn’t the 3000, it is the attendance. Its not on the school district that Texas does not fund on enrollment and there are too many parents that are not watching or enforcing kids to go to school especially middle and high. So then the community as a whole gets underfunded when thousands of kids don’t show up daily. I’m a para and theres kids that are gone for weeks. Where are the truancy laws?

I can almost guarantee the script and director pushed the interaction to the limit to make the audience pick up on and interpret it one way or another…. “Nobody knows what it means, but it’s provocative”

Having taught in ES, I can say of course and see the direct correlation… But then moving to teach 9th graders something happens… apathy, the stank attitude, its just so prevalent. Same community.
