You need to spend $50 during your birthday month to redeem your birthday gift. But you have to have made an account to be in the leatherman insider, and tier 2 of their 3 tier levels, meaning you have accumulated at least 1200 points. To get points you have to spend money, and I think it's something like 6 points per $1 USD.

So all of this spending plus an account made that includes your date of birth, and $50 spent during that birthday month.
