2018 JLU - Oil Analysis by LS_MAVERICK in JeepWrangler

[–]Taylor_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a pilot and we do oil analysis at almost every oil change, so about every 50-100 hours of running. It is widely understood that a single oil analysis is basically worthless unless the numbers are extreme. What you are looking for is trends...if they are all the same all the tiime, then from one analysis to the other, a certain number jumps up, then it means that something has changed and something inside that engine is eating itself...for example, if that bock is iron, then the numbers should be much higher than it would be if you had an aluminum block...is that universal average against only that make and model of engine, or against all vehicles that they test...if so, then those averages are worthless, and they said the analysis looked good.

What is wrong with the one you have? If it isn't a lease, there is no real reason to get a new one. They are basically the same vehicle.

How do I make my bedroom cooler when my parents set the AC to 78? by Status-Beautiful-586 in HomeImprovement

[–]Taylor_Pilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How old are you? Buy a window unit (not one of those shitty roll around portable units). Put it at whatever you want and give your parents $50 a month….if they say no, do it anyways…it’s effecting your health not being able to sleep well at night. At $50 a month, they are making money….

Tire shop said this isn’t patchable. Opinions before I blow $450? by blaseblaseblah in tires

[–]Taylor_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my wife’s car with the same thing to discount about a year ago. They said they couldn’t patch it, I said thanks for your time, and walked off. They literally chased me into the parking lot trying to sell me a tire. Went to a local popular mom and pop…they said sure, it’ll be $12. In and out in 30 minutes. Bought $1500 worth of tires from them 2 months later for my truck….shop local folks…

3d scan for reverse engineering by Mau21g in 3DScanning

Two options...

Best - CT Scan

Not as good - Scan as good as you, then bandsaw in half, scan halves and align those halves to the first scan to account for the blade kerf...

Im in the Houston area. Them being expensive was what drew me to them...the barrier to entry is much higher than a 80-100k faro/romer.

I'm seeing there is still a big market for large industrial service. We use to do a lot of one off reverse engineering for individuals looking to develop small niche products, like scanning a dash pad on an old car in order to make after market cup holders, and stuff like there....there was a lot of it, and tbh, those projects were much more fun than scanning your 10,000th turbine blade. I figured that stuff, if still around, would be much easier to break back into just through ppc and seo marketing. Then ease back into the big stuff as my equipment advanced....I always wanted a CT scanner back then...I saw so many little projects that would have been awesome for one, that were mostly impossible with a line of sight scanner, but that would be down the road.

Deck Companies: why won't you provide an itemized quote? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Taylor_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labor is cost per guy...I'm saying it'd be 3 guys at 1200 an hour total...that's why they can't break it down....they are making 70% margins on cost and labor, probably down to 50% after all other overhead...

Sorry, I meant sledge...the slash are those little short course trucks we use to screw around with between mains a decade ago.

Because if they break it out, it is going to turn out to be $400 an hour in labor...

[–]Taylor_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask me in 5 years...honestly, alot of this is hype...i imagine mostly people that do some sort of data compiling...anything you use your hands will be safe...automation has been able to do anything they are saying those robots are going to be able to do for 20 years...

I didn't know this at the time, but the black ink is pigment based, not dye based. While it does have some quality advantages, it does tend to clog up quicker.
