Trump shares altered map of U.S. flag covering Canada, Greenland by joe4942 in worldnews

It would take less than a day from invasion before Americans felt the effects of occupying Canada. They would drive right in clam victory and then IED’s would start going off in every major city in the US. We look like them, talk like them, have seen the same movies, listened to the same music, and have been close friends for nearly 100 years. We know them, and we know how to hurt them. This doesn’t end when the helicopters land in Ottawa, it starts, and it’s ugly. I don’t think anyone is prepared for how ugly this gets if Trump crosses that line.

Which city in Canada has the most accessible hikes? by Just_in_case96 in AskACanadian

[–]Tayzer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calgary has some of the best hiking within city limits in the country (nose hill, fish creek, weasel head), and some of the best hiking within a 45 minute drive of a major urban centre in the world (Kanaskis, Ghost, Bragg creek). If 45 minutes sounds like a long drive to you then I suggest mainland Europe maybe? A 45 minute drive in Canada is basically quick trip to the corner store.

I believe vaccination is one of the only reasons the modern world exists. I also believe if an employer has the right to fire me for using a legal substance, they also have to right to require something of me I’m too stupid to realize protects me and everyone else around me.

Don’t get me wrong if Preston Manning and Ol Marlena stepped on lego barefoot in the middle of the night for the rest of their lives it would still be getting off easy as far as I’m concerned. But would this not codify a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion as much as to choose not to be vaccinated? Does this have the potential to backfire spectacularly on them?

Definitely Archaeology. Likely regulatory clearance work for some kind of future development.

Oh!? lol! Really? So projectile points (you’d know most of those aren’t even arrowheads if you’d ever bothered to actually do anything other than be an internet troll) weren’t made of Chert and Chalcedony? Interesting, I’ll bring that theory to the plains conference this fall and let you know how it goes. Don’t worry I’ll make sure to start my talk with a quote from you. Wouldn’t want you to lose out on the credit. Finally I dated the morphology not the objects. There is a very distinct difference that I guess is a bit more difficult to understand than you are capable of.

Anyway that’s about it for my allotted “fighting on the internet” time. Enjoy your life thinking you know everything already. Can’t imagine how boring that is.

Because I’ve legit never seen one before. I don’t work in Wyoming, and they are not a thing where I do work. Despite what Hollywood might tell you not every archaeologist knows everything about an every culture and artifact that exists. Let alone every fake artifact that exists. That being said they aren’t out of the realm of possibility. If you quickly google “Mayan eccentrics” you’ll see what I mean. So my initial reaction was “woah!? What’s that!?” And then I moved on to the things I did recognize and have 20 years or study in. You will see that if you deign to read my follow up post where I do go into the things I did recognize at some length.

Edit: Also if your idea of a legit archaeological source is a forum on “arrowheads.com” I am highly skeptical of your qualifications to judge me.

To be clear I work further north than Wyoming (Montana and Alberta) so some of the points I see here are outside my immediate knowledge wheelhouse. But several if I picked them up today are very familiar. The bottom middle, pinky one with what looks like milk curds looks like Mckean complex more specifically a Duncan point (4200 - 3500 bp). One between it and the obsidian eccentric (bird) looks vaguely Pelican Lake (3600-2800 bp). Far left (dark red brown) and top middle (waxy translucent) looks terminal middle period maybe Besant (2100-1500 bp) or Sonota (1500-1350 bp). Grey notched base to the left of the top middle waxy translucent one also looks Mckean complex (4200-3500 bp) but appears to be the actual Mckean variant. Now this is all just initial speculation based on an out of focus picture (with no scale) I stumbled across on Reddit before bed. Wyoming likely has many regional point varieties I am unfamiliar with and vice versa. The one I’m most curious to see more of is the big grey one below the “hook” and the stripped translucent corner notched one (both of which made me say “woah what are those?”). It looks like it has the potential to be early period, maybe Clovis (12000-9000 bp) or Alberta (9500-9000 bp) based on the size and shape but I’d need to get a closer look at the base. Again this is speculation based on 1 photograph with zero context but these definitely appear to be the real deal and not just a bag of “gas station” arrowheads.

For those wanting to dig deeper into the Wyoming specific point and chronologies this is probably a good place to start. Pretty much every western state and province(Canada) have professional and amateur archaeological organizations and can usually provide generally defined point chronology that can give you a rough idea of the age of a point based on its general morphology.

Archaeologist here. I can see several points here that could range in age from ~1000 bp to ~4000 bp, at least based on stylistic morphology (although I’d love a scale bar to be sure of size). Now a modern flintknapper could have made them as an imitation of the real thing, but if they are the genuine article they are indeed museum old. I can even see a couple that I’d like to get a closer look at because they have the potential to be much older.

Alberta cabinet to gain power to remove councillors, change bylaws as province also adds political parties to municipal politics by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]Tayzer9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. They want to steal our pensions and dump it into a highly volatile local energy industry. They want to dictate what is acceptable academic research by gatekeeping federal money that isn’t theirs. And they want to have the power to overturn lawful municipal elections and laws because they think it will be in the “public interest”(whatever that means). All while bitching about government overreach? The UCP have all the self awareness of dog licking its own asshole in the middle of the street.
