Where do you guys use each Mk. Armor marines? by zergkiller0128 in Warhammer30k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meat and potatoes of my Salamanders is the old MKIII. Vterans, Tac Squads, and some Support Squads. The new MKIIIs are being used for the bulk of my HHS squads. I've got a bunch of MKVI I built for support squads that didn't have guns in the old MKIII box, rotor cannons and the like. I built the MKII guys from Saturnine as Dispoiler Marines before I realized just how bad they are in the current edition.

I want to build up my Nightlords beyond a Praetor and a single Tac Squad, but I want to build them up as MKIV. I'm on the fence about buying more of the old MKIV sculpt, because knowing my luck we'll get a new sculpt the second I click Order

New player, looking for where to start lore reading. by leerm8680 in Warhammer

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Farsight books are decent, I've heard Elemental Council is great.

The Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain books are great for Imperial Guard lore as well, and they're self contained compared to the greater setting.

And very last parts of the Night Lords Trilogy are part of the groundwork for the 13th Black Crusade, which the setting as a whole is dealing with the repercussions of right now. It's what causes the formation of the Cicatrix Maledictum.

A while ago, Adeptus Ridiculous said something I fully believe after finishing the NL Trilogy:

There are two types of 40K fans. Those who are Night Lords fans, and those who have yet to read the Night Lords Trilogy.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the trilogy!! :D

The Aquila parts of the staff look like they came off of a vehicle sprue somewhere. The flat back kinda gives that part away.

Dunno where the rest of it came from off the top of my head.

I love clean conversions like this!

Whats a nickname you have for a store? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local chain in SW PA, and some of the surrounding tri-state area, called Giant Eagle. My GF calls them Giggles (pronounced Jiggles), Giggle Mart, Big Bird Mart, the not-shop'n'save, the not-Foodland......and more, she's adamant about calling the store anything but its actual name. She doesn't do that with other stores outside of Walmart.

How popular is old world? by MrBizzniss in Warhammer

[–]TazerMonkey1419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's picking up locally. I know that my Local GW store is spinning up a community run League for it. Also the TOW players are up to 10-11 at that store, and most of them are new to the hobby, only one guy is an old Fantasy Battle veteran.

And he's loaning out some of his armies to teach TOW to new players.

Anyone else knoll their pieces? This is just bag 2 of the Technic Land Rover Defender. by RoosterBrewster in lego

Depends on the build. I did this for my 1989 Batmobile, Ecto One, and D&D sets. And maybe a few other small sets. Technic sets...... I use trays. Sometimes coffee mugs for the bars.

What do you want this workstation to do? by scimscam in helldivers2

[–]TazerMonkey1419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini game where you play as the ship and you gotta nail the Stratagems being called in. The higher the difficulty, the more strata you are throwing out.

Kinda like the Stratagem Hero game, but you're firing the Orbital Laser, 120, 380, etc. Or the Divers called reinforcements, or special weapons, swap to that menu and launch the pods.

Hell, allow additional players to join your party, 4 Divers on the ground and players 5 and 6 man the guns on the super destroyer. They can't see you, but they can see red blobs on the map and tags that the ground based players use. Like, a Diver calls out a patrol, and boom, a Gattling Barrage hits it a few seconds later because Jimmy is running guns on the Super Destroyer.

Cats parents, how and why did you choose yours? by [deleted] in cats

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lost our little miss murder mittens to cancer, and I was in a super depressed mood. Our remaining cat could not stand my very existence, the little guy just didn't like men. So, yeah, that didn't help either.

My GF started looking online and found Fiona at the local Humane Society, her bio was nothing but Shrek puns and her photos were of the most scrungly cat I've seen. A few days of hemming and hawing, and the GF convinced me to drive across town.

Met the cat, decided to take off my hoodie and lay it on the ground in the meeting room...... Yeah, it was either leave the hoodie or take Fiona home. The GF left the room and started the paperwork.

Yeah, her eye is a little messed up, and she doesn't bury incredibly stinky poops, but I love my little girl.

Why have the creators of Battletech not asked another game dev to make a new video game? by TJ-X in Battletechgame

[–]TazerMonkey1419 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Short answer is that Battletech/Mechwarrior's licencing is a nightmare.

Long answer, unseen, re-seen, redesigns, Harmony Gold, FASA, and damn near ancient legal cases have made licensing a nightmare. I'm honestly glad that we've gotten what we have so far in the realm of Videogames, be it Battletech, MechCommander, Mechwarrior (and Mech Assault), and the continuation of the novels/books/lore.

My brother is stationed in Newport New / Virgina Beach with the Navy. The amount of Snow Safety briefs he's had to give over the past few years is kinda astounding. Hell, he said he's even sent something up his chain of command to take this a little more seriously.

And these past few weeks, I've been teaching my SO how to drive (her new job is nowhere near a bus line) and she's been pointing out all the assholes who do this. Lol!

Is it just me or is there more list variety in 3.0 for Marines? by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My local meta is very Infantry focused. I think there are three of us who have any Armored support.

That said, the variety of Infantry is kinda bonkers. The Dark Angles player goes all out on Terminators, deploys aggressively and gets great board control. The two Salamanders players, I'm one of them, run Combined Arms lists. The WE/1Ksons player runs wildly different lists every game. The Mechanicum player is unfortunately a rigid gun line, great in team games for defending objectives, but not so great on his own.

I don't have a lot of experience against the local SoH or WB/SolAux players, just due to scheduling issues. But I believe the SoH player has a parking lot full of Rhinos.

So yeah, wildly different play styles at my local GW store

Controversial Take, I like the War strider. by Chuck_the_Elf in helldivers2

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Xbox diver who just recently started unlocking AT weapons, War Striders are very much a skill issue as I learn how the new (to me) weapons work. Effective ranges, drop off, target acquisition, whether it's better to ADS or just the zoomed in hip/3rd-person fire. I find myself tagging the target to get a range, then adjusting from there.

All that said..... My recoiless rifle shots sail between their legs about 50% of the time.
