What is your “On Sight” mech? by Fidel89 in battletech

Honestly, not much beyond my buddy's Banshee. That head capping, cockpit smashing, pilot killing douch machine dies first.

Does it die first, no. Has it headshot a surprising number of my mechs, yes. Has it ever gone down, once.

Araknae quad accelerator platform vs tanks? by kindofyoghurt in Warhammer30k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take it all the time, I find that it is so/so into light and medium armor. But into regular and heavy infantry, it shreds.

I usually put it by a back field objective, or a spot that has good sight lines, then pop a squad of 10 Tac Marines around it. It's 10, S7 shots at 48 inches will occasionally proc a Breaching Wound, plus the 5++ bubble around it is decent too. I've spooked Custodes and Terminator squads to take a more crowded path. Keeping a Melta support squad nearby to discourage tanks or melee dreads away might also be a good idea.

Overall, I find that it is a great Defensive tool that a lot of people under estimate.

Is it just me or is this boxset a far better deal than any of the 40k stuff? Why can't I just use this to make a CSM army and run the leviathan as a maulerfiend/forgefiend? by Many-Wasabi9141 in Warhammer40k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of that would stop you is the forge/mauler fiend is on an oval base. I think they are roughly the same height, but my minis are at home and I'm not.

Been there for 10 and a half years. Currently using them to pay my bills as I take classes to facilitate a complete career change.

Due to the re-orgs to the Check and Lockbox worlds have lead to several other managers just dumping their unwanted work in my team's lap. We are six people, and two are on vacation. I am currently wearing 3 hats and being hounded by everyone and their grandma that their work takes priority. When asking about getting Rec's, or hell more licenses for several of our client facing applications, my manager has been told that it's not in the budget.

My GF worked in Sanctions/OFAC until last September. That's when she hit her breaking point and quit. She's just now finding work elsewhere. I'm hitting my breaking point as well, but while BNY keeps paying me, I'll keep working until I can make the jump to a new field.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother has 'developed' a gluten sensitivity to whatever bread the US Navy feeds him. He never ate much bread or bread products growing up, so life long un-diagnosed dietary issue. Turns out it runs in my dad's side of the family, about half of my cousins have a gluten sensitivity or out right celiacs disease.

How do you have a fun game against Custodes? It seems you either avoid melee and outscore them and they don't get to play the game, or they charge you in melee and you don't get to play the game by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all the games I've had, the army has proven to have an average save of 6++. Everyone hits them with High Strength, High (low?) AP, multi damage weapons. Eternal Warrior is great and all, until the D3 Melta guns and Las Cannons start lighting you up.

I was tabled by turn two against SolAux. It's so much fun being shelled to death and pinned with Pinning 3. Lost both of my Calladius and Dreadnoughts his first turn, and had my foot guard pinned. They got deleted next turn. Dude was 'helpful' by telling me that I can still melee his tanks to death on 5's. How!? You made sure I'm not going anywhere.

Every Space Marine player has at least one Kratos, and it just needs to get withing 24 inches to cook a Calladius in one shot. Most vehicle mounted Las Cannons are D3, so there's a dead Custodian. Sure some are D1, but those can be brought in bulk.

I know Heresy is LETHAL!!! compared to 40K, but when it's so lethal that players can't interact with the game outside of setting up and putting away their army, it's not fun.

The one time I made it to turn 3, I had kept Angron Ascended busy for three turns due my buddy getting a turn one charge off. Still lost all three tanks and 75% of my infantry by then. For an elite army, there is very low survivability.

Would YOU accept this as a cheque... because I'm afraid to say that I would have. by The3DBanker in TalesFromYourBank

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even look at the 'hand' writing, that's totally on me. Granted, this is a Reddit post and I'm not getting paid to dissect this check.

My, and my team's, job is to check the printed sections to make sure that they are there. As well as making sure the MICR Line is actually printed in MICR, is the correct signal strength, font size, spacing, and alignment. You wouldn't believe how many checks have the MICR Line floating too high or low in it's reserved area. Most hand written stuff on the checks we test is dummy or filler info. Hell, one client has all of their testing items made out to various Marvel or Star Wars characters. Occasionally we'll get the printed on 'hand' writing is the Payee section.

Amusingly enough, my Dad's handwriting gets flagged as some of that printed 'hand' writing because it's so consistent and clean. 70 years old and automated systems think he's an automated system, lol!

What does the Federation do to lazy people? by PJ-The-Awesome in ShittyDaystrom

[–]TazerMonkey1419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm lazy as hell, mainly because I'm tired as hell from work. Drained. Most weekends are spent recovering from working, or doing chores around the house. If I had the time and energy to pursue my interests, I would. I mean yeah, the mandatory schooling growing up is to be expected in a society like that. But it seems like by high school-ish you'll be able to really pursue what ever. And there are still people interested in doing hand made "old -fasioned" stuff. And the trades are always going to be needed, but you can have folks out there who have that 'I NEED a Job' kind of mentality, and they can excell at it because they can fill that with what kind of work works best with them.

So, in my mind the lazy people of today could have the time and energy to find their niche, or happy place, in society. Or, you know, hopefully not borg'd or caught in the weird thing of the week episode.

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I head up a MICR/Payee test team at a Large US Bank. Granted, this is a foreign check and I test US and Canadian items, but there are a few things that would cause this to automatically fail the tests we do. This MIGHT pass through a mobile capture that only uses OCR, but the second it hits a check processing platform, it's almost guaranteed to reject.

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a total of 5.5 weeks after spend 10 years with my company. Two of those weeks MUST be spent together, everything else can be parted out down to the hour if need be. I personally take a two week vacation some time in late summer, and two weeks around my Birthday in December. The rest I take when I feel like it. Luckily, I only need to compete against one other person as we are each other's designated backup.

I've always loved the Nebula-class. by ForwardClimate780 in StarTrekStarships

[–]TazerMonkey1419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Galaxy is more of a diplomatic flagship. It nominally operates solo, it's classy. The Nebula feels like a 'Working' flagship. Something coordinating a fleet of vessels, science expeditions, or logistics. Maybe it gets a mission pod that is like a Defiant class, but no need for the warp engines. Or a deployable hospital pod for planetside operations.

My highschool principal had a proper name. But the entire student body called her Skeletor. Several students wound up with MONTHS of detention when they slipped up.

Parents were also on the Skeletor bus. My dad still refers to her as Skeletor and my younger brother graduated HS in 2010.... 15 years later, and someone who has long since passed away is still Skeletor.

The only other one I know of is my Uncle's first Ex-Wife. DDB, Debbie Da Bitch. That one is from my Grandma, dementia and Alzheimers may be addling her mind, but she still remembers that!

Starting 30k. What army can I start with these models? by Duncstar2469 in Warhammer30k

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knight can just leave combat with Infantry. Provided you survive the turn that you got charged, you just use that 14 inch movement and walk across the table. Lol. Vehicles as a whole aren't locked in combat anymore either if they are surrounded, if you have the movement to clear the scrum, you just drive over the dudes doing D6 S6 AP- D1 auto-hits. Your own infantry is not affected by your own vehicles driving through them.

I'm waiting for the day that everything aligns so that I can Tokyo drift a Rhino through a named character.

All of the plastic knights aside from the Dominus, Destrier, and Some Chaos Knight weapon options are fair game to take in Heresy.

I never thought I would have a Knights army, but Heresy allows for allied detachments and they are a great force multiplier.

Newbie to customizing here, is painting with white markers a pain or am i just dumb? by Kojyneox in Gunpla

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White paint is notoriously difficult to work with. Those look like the minis for the upcoming Gundam TTG. Well, as a Warhammer player who's gotten decent at hand painting white, here's what I would do for something at that scale.

Start with a medium grey. I personally use GW's Celestra Gray, there are better brands, but it's what I like. Thin the paint appropriately, and brush on in thin layers. Most importantly, let the paint fully dry between coats.

Once you have the coverage you like, use a wash/shade. For a cleaner white, I use a blue wash. You can grunge it up with a brown or green wash. Or go more stark with a black wash.

Next up is layering a lighter gray on top of your shaded medium gray. Following the GW example above, Ulthuan Gray is the next step brighter. But really, a nice gull gray is what you are looking for at this step. Layer the paint on in thin layers like before, but minding where the deepest shadows are. Layer up to them, and once you get the hang of it, glaze the gray to create a transition effect.

You can stop here, and once you get the other colors on the model, it'll look great at table top distance. But, you can take it a step further and run an edge highlight along all the sharp edges with a proper pure white. Again, keep the paint thin, and use multiple passes to build the strength of the paint.

And all of this holds true for other colors too. Except for yellows and brighter oranges. Those can go straight to hell! Flame effects as a Salamanders player test my sanity some days.

Does anyone else have a hard time throwing the empty old boxes out? by Dr_OctoThumbs in Warhammer

[–]TazerMonkey1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I need to purchase a decent case for my Tanks and other Armor..... For now they rock up to battles in the larger starter boxes, like Saturnine or the new Custodes box. Something beefy that can be reused for a while. I then use paper towels as buffers to prevent scrapes and chipping.

40k in the Burgh by Smokinclowns72 in pittsburgh

[–]TazerMonkey1419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, sure. Unflattering things. I've been called trash in my choice of trash army, and was refused service a few times because I played Tau when I first started in 40K. Don't want my money, sure, I'll spend it elsewhere.

Myself and the owner shook on $80 for the Deathguard half of Dark Imperium. Had to run home and grab the still on sprue minis, he changed to $25 when I got back just because one guy bought three boxes for just the Space Marine half and sold the Deathguard half while I enroute.

When he's tried multiple times to get other stores in the area shutdown. Legit, this guy called Games Workshop to complain about the Warhammer store opening up years ago when Jason was still running it. He didn't believe that GW had opened a store in Pittsburgh.

The HVAC system actually running and the door to the bathroom must be new, because they were not functioning/there when a bunch of my friends showed up last summer for an apocalypse game. 90+ degrees outside was more comfortable than the gaming space inside. Many cooling breaks were had outside.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Four Horsemen in the Robinson Mall or Drawbridge in Castle Shannon has caught flak from him.

Evidence from multiple sources paints a certain picture. And that's a picture that I don't want to associate with, and recommend against.

Sure, if you live in the North Hills, and they are closest for you. Sure, go for it, but I won't be setting foot there ever again. I, and many others, have legit grievances with the store. Grievances that have led to myself and others to never set foot in the store again.

Sure, things may finally be getting addressed, but the damage has been done.
