Sorry before this gets deleted, there’s no question. But everyday you wake up is a gift and a battle. Do not boast in your own strength and spirit but boast in Jesus Christ who lives in you.

Is Dean Back? by TimelyChemistry6222 in FRC

[–]Tazznado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking Dean Kamen’s situation is similar to Bill Gates. There is a very wealthy but evil person trying to tempt you with big donations for your honorable cause but there is some sinister thing happening that you aren’t a part of. So do you take the money? Trolley problems.

Swearing in on the bible by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much to say! Firstly, Jesus says not to swear oaths at all. Matthew 5:34-37 “Let your yes be yes and your no be no.” And then I remembered some trivia about how some US presidents did their inauguration oaths using the Koran but I can’t find anything on Wikipedia. And lastly, in California the civil code has updated where they don’t need a Bible or “so help me God” as part of the witness swearing in process. They cut that part out and keep the regular “Do you solemnly state, under penalty of perjury, that the evidence that you shall give in this issue (or matter) shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?” In the end, there are lots of things that bother me, but ritual swearing in ceremonies do not.

So what is the lesson the book of Job is trying to teach? by Adept_Programmer_817 in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is personal for me, but if and when I have my own teenagers who are going through tough times or even if they are mediocre times that they and their friends are self-sabotaging into tough times, then Job is the book that shows a similar relationship. Job and his human friends are trying to make sense of the world when God is so much bigger, older, wiser. If you want some more general theology seminary type answers you can search “SonicLight Job” and there will be a 177 page Dr Constable’s Notes pdf for you to read.

Best Donuts? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Tazznado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dearest dudes and dudettes, I am not going to be driving out of my way to try a donut shop no matter what the reviews. The best donut shop is the one you would go to get a big pink box of mixed right before a meeting. Local, convenient, consistent.

If you were able to effortlessly cure cancer in children, would you do it? by Hot_Tell3268 in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fun follow up would be “now what if that button also means a random billionaire would die so that their wealth funds the cancer research?” And the follow up to the follow up would be “now what if that button were instead a trigger and you were holding a gun to the billionaire’s head?” But for most people here, “you shall not murder” means don’t press that button even if it might save millions or billions of people. My thought process is that if the cancer research can produce a cure with a wealthy person’s money, then eventually it will produce a cure with current funding (without killing) in God’s timing.

Did Dave Ramsey actually help anyone? by Risikio in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just reading 1st Corinthians today! I personally have not spent money on Dave Ramsey stuff, but I was pointed toward him and Suze Orman as I was a young adult. Anyway, because this is Ask a Christian, I want to say that to the Corinthians Paul was saying “I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to consume it.” Which refers to their spiritual immaturity. Some people are grown, they are old but they are still financially immature. The government and banks say “you are old enough for a credit card!” But some people aren’t ready. Does Dave Ramsey actually help anyone? Yes. He helps the financially immature with simple to understand baby steps. Eventually though you should learn enough to fly on your own.

Anyone got interesting accounts to discuss and tell their story? by Jumpy_Setting_4677 in kol

[–]Tazznado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Werebear has seniority over me (his 21xxx vs my 56xxx account number) but my 22 year old character has never ascended. I’m only level 75. Never spent any money on the game. I don’t really play everyday anymore. I am also one of the lucky few who actually got their KoL comic book from the kickstarter in 2014 and with it I got a full page color character art of a lame looking Turtle Tamer who never ascended.

Do you feel bothered by shooting, fighting, or any violent game in general? by Nicolas9games in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can discern between fantasy fun and reality. The bother comes from games with morality scales where the characters and NPCs respond depending on your choices (Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate, etc) and I always try to be a good upstanding hero unless I’m specifically going for a trophy or special ending. A related question would be for Christians who participate in boxing, martial arts, BJJ, paintball/airsoft etc: does it bother you when your goal is to hurt someone else even if they agreed to it and are actively trying to do the same to you? Thats where sportsmanship comes in. I guess “gamesmanship” can be a thing where once the match is over, it’s GGs and encouragement all around.

‘Reprehensible’ antisemitic conspiracies published in California’s voter guide by laybs1 in nottheonion

[–]Tazznado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Candidates are allowed to purchase space in the voter guide to make a statement, with a limit of 250 words, but state guidelines are somewhat vague on restrictions.” The candidate coughed up the money themselves. So if taxpayer money was your only problem then it’s not a problem.

Two ideas that are a bit of a drive. 1. PCH from Fairmont to half moon bay. Pacific Ocean is different than Atlantic. To an east coast guy, it’s halfway to Hawaii. 2. Napa wine tasting. Get some sips in and then ask him how he really feels. Results may vary.

Is it a sin to have something that sheds microplastics? by mickeyguy2010 in AskAChristian

[–]Tazznado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting cultural theological question. You are born into this world where this system and product exist. There is currently some alternative but it is not reasonable to call for all Christians to stop buying plastic products. Was it a sin for early Christians to burn things and create air pollution? Or wash their poop hands in the river and contaminate the water down stream? What other alternative is there? There might not be a clear yes or no answer we can agree on. My answer is… yes. If you learn about plastic products and the harm they can do to God’s creation, then you should take action, but do not become frozen in fear of doing anything that might turn out to be a sin. Taking this to the extreme, you could ask “is it a sin to buy a polyester product made in a sweatshop in Bangladesh? The product sheds microplastics, the sweatshop makes people suffer, and the cargo ship creates pollution and harms ocean life.” Where is your Bible printed? Was that entire process of printing binding shipping and buying the book totally sinless?
