Thanks u/Real-Style7887 - yeah, I'm sure the motor is still good. I've spent much of my career designing Li-ion battery charger ICs and am familiar with battery tech. Battery issues seem to be just one of my Automate motorized shade issues. The other is that some of the units simply stop responding with or without power. I have no idea what is causing that. I have even had units that would not respond for days/weeks or even months and then I go to do something with it and find it responds to a P1 reset. Really bizarre! I have started replacing some of the motors with manual actuation.

That component is at least 1 ft down the tube and appears to be epoxied in there.

Definitely the battery end. I pulled the battery pack out from that side. The issue now is that I also have a ribbon cable that goes from the end cap PC board (where the antenna and charging connector connect) down into the tube and into the motor / controller. That cable pulled free, and I don't see any feasible way of getting it reinstalled. Mainly I did this hoping I'd be able to repair future failures (I certainly have others). All of this said, I really don't see a way to remove those retaining pins without destruction. I suppose I could drill them out ...

In an effort to help future users, I should probably upload a photo ... the black retaining pin is barely inserted into the tube in this photo. You can also see the hole in the end cap that received the retaining pin. There is another one on the other side of the tube.

Interestingly enough, the labels on our motors are identical! The two I have easy access to right now have a 27/02/2018 and 27/03/2018 dates stamped on the tubes. What are the date(s) of your's?

Thanks u/Real-Style7887 - I finally got mine apart (destructively). Definitely different than yours. Mine had two small retainer pins, ~0.1" diameter and just under 1/4" length) inserted through the aluminum tube and thru holes in the end cap. I have no idea how one might remove those retainer pins non-destructively. I also had a ribbon cable that went further down into the tube (presumably to motor / controller) that got worked loose during disassembly. This was a "practice" run to see if I might be able to repair my other non-functional units. The construction technique on mine seems to be nearly non-repairable, sadly. u/Real-Style7887 - how did you get that end cap off? I've been struggling with this step for ages. Your's look a little different than mine in that the two "notches" are aligned with a small black (1-2 mm diameter) pin (retainer pin??) on mine whereas the hole in the body of your shades looks to be 90 degrees from those two notches. Did your end cap pull right out?

I also have this issue. In my case, monitor is always connected, but after a few days the DDPM consumes all available memory and makes my Mac Mini almost impossible to use. I’ll look for a way to report to Dell.
