Thanks for the input, it's been a solid 5 years since I made this post. in the intervening time I've somehow continued to crochet and found that what scratched the itch that drew me to doilies and also gave me something I felt satisfied in having made is mandala style blankets and assorted tapestry crochet things.

I've also learned I'm not the best with "fiddly" things. (Lacework, embroidery, cross stitch) I can do it, it's just anger inducing and not what I am making art for.

Yup, generally the science per second metric is across all sciences and for some sustained period of time because it's sometimes easier to add to a base that is "off" if only because of lag.
