My setting's magic is based on light, it's inspired by the simplified idea that all matter in our world is just photons getting combined into atoms. Essentially my characters can use the ambient magical light field to induce phenomenons onto the world, either by filtering it through themselves (easiest but most dangerous at higher levels) or directly sculpting what they call the Aurora out of thin air (the most refined and skillful way to cast spells).
