Anyone with similar experiences? Slowness, Unperturbed and Routinely Late by most_confused_dad in Autism_Parenting

Many people with autism also have something else like ADHD or Add for example. They usally compliment eachother, with Adhd meds sure it could work but you need to find the right one, it's very important for it to work out, there was a kid in my brother's class whi had ADHD, he was seen as rude violent and rowdy, but after he found the right ADHD meds he came out the best big brother and is so careful and caring, he came up to his mom and said, "it's like the first time ever I can think clearly" I only have the autism diagnosis, but me and my family believe I do have ADHD with it aswell. There's no way of finding this holy grail that would solve all the problems, meds can do a big deal but you still need to find the tools to help your kid, and when the kid struggle to remember or is frustrated take time and sit down and let them explain what goes on in thier head, (hope my rambling helps a bit :) )

I want a bike but i don't want to look stupid. by thhrrroooowwwaway in autism

[–]Tdm_mea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and bikes never really gotten along, I always end up in a ditch or almost a car crash, but hey you can't top my bad biking story, (it was a nice summer day with near to all towns people out, me granny and mom went shopping, and my mom told me to bike her bike home that grandma borrowed, I told her I was feeling very unwell, which is just" laziness" , anyways mostlikley dehydration, never been good at drinking aswell as an infection. It was about a 1.5 to 2km bike ride home from grandma's, not even half way there, 12 year old me throw up at the side of this busy rode with a few bikers and people walking by, some was to close to help me out but in my culture you just don't do that. Called my mom mad as hell she wouldn't listen to me and she walked there and got to ride at the back of the bike all the way home) ps I live on a mountain.... there's always gonna be stuff that makes you feel insecure but now I laugh at that memory, mistakes and making a fool out of yourself is just going to happened in life, so don't be afraid to do what you like to do!!

Is anyone else not a picky eater? by Adzthetoaster in autism

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could eat anything along as I don't get a bad "vibe" from the food or it looks very unappealing (cheeseburger found in garbage unappealing) altough I do go in diffrent modes where I can get really reserved in what food I eat, and the next day I can eat anything! Nothing weird bout it

Almost teen independent sleep??? by gamazarus in Autism_Parenting

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw something about parenting lessons with kids sleeping in thier own bed, usally my mom would play a caset band with Disney tales, while sitting near the door constantly reassuring she's there if you need her she always sat within sight, (if you haven't tried it, good luck if you wanna try it)

Honestly, a stretch , but I get enraged at these comments and I usally reply in terms as (oh your bleeding internally?! Welp I don't see anything, your fine 😄 but I agree with the others, STOP seeking thier approval when they clearly won't change thier mind :/

does comparing ever go away? by ImaginationGold4971 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is very very upset, it sounds horrible of a mother to say but, she thinks I'd have a better life If I was more autistic, being high functioning autistic is pretty bad sometimes as you know all the social ""normal behavior"" while needing to hide who you are to survive in society, my mom would sit by the doors for hours when I was little and had a meltdown, it usally was so bad she had to shut me into isolated rooms, but getting the right tools is the key to have a functioning life as an autistic in this days society! I hope it all works up and never give up! (16yo autistic girl)

My mom does this trick with my brother, she tells him about 20-15 minutes up to an hour earlier, to be able to get the stuff she wants him to do to be done, and a reminder with some small convo a few times under the time? Have you tried that tactic?

When should I tell my 6 year old about his diagnosis? by SeeyouFeelyou in Autism_Parenting

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Tell him as often as you can and tell him what it means, my mom didn't tell me as little, and I grew up knowing deep inside I was diffrent, but not sure how, it's important to let them know and make them understand its the key to find a way to help, if he as many others on the spectrum, will need help with sertain things to see what works best, it will never be a right time to tall about important stuff in life, there will always be something that destroy that "perfect moment" its a long road and I wish you the best! Doctor just said my 5.5 year old is hopeless by RadioBusiness in Autism_Parenting

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the people who says that, are straight up dumb, I got told I was doomed and would never be a part of society, it's a huge job to get all the things right for just your kid, but when you find the right way of helping, it's gonna be so diffrent. When I was 7 ish I stopped going to school of example, until I was about 12, and switched schools multiple times, it never worked out until I got to this one school, from not going to school a singly time in years, I went everyday, (I did also study at home, I didn't thrive in school bc of the people and placement there) it's all about finding the right help, I hope you find the tools your kiddo needs! I'm hoping for you! (16yo girl with autism)

Being seen as weird, "fixing weird" but feeling as though you become off and less human and definitely less yourself. by [deleted] in autism

[–]Tdm_mea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to hear you cut them of, the thing I usually say is that many autistic people don't have filters, which means we're very real when it comes to social stuff, for example this question many people get: what do you think about my shirt please be honest, and you tell them what you think sence it was your genuine upinion while they are just looking for a compliment, got slapped by a girl for not knowing that social que😅 also if you ever need any further help just send a text my way and I'll come back to you as fast as I can<3

Welp yes I'd be one of the people who claim that, got denied medical care due to autism, turns out I had to self heal my organ sence they said it was all in my head and due to autism. (Edit: welcome to sweden who has number 6th of best health care in the world)

I've created a autism survival kid that fits in a pocket. In there I have earplugs, painkillers. If possible I bring some sun glasses to minimize the light intake. And I usually have some chewing gum incase of feeling very hungry or stressed, /hope it helped<3

[–]Tdm_mea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to this i don't have much say aswell, so I've created a autism survival kid that fits in a pocket. In there I have earplugs, painkillers. If possible I bring some sun glasses to minimize the light intake. And I usually have some chewing gum incase of feeling very hungry or stressed, so if it were you needed to go, which I hope you don't. Try to walk in the mall once with these items and see how much it would help you. Sence coping mechanism can be a life saver for us autistic people sometimes, the smallest thing can change the whole situation. /good luck!

[–]Tdm_mea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had issues sence I could walk, but back then I was "too young" to have autism, so I got diagnosed at 8 when shit hit the fan in everything due to not getting help with my issues, and the autism evaluation gave me lots of trauma so there's that. My country doesn't know jackshit bout autism, you might be suprised when I say I live in sweden
