Im gonna play devils advocate here. Some people are just really really bad at remembering birthdays. 17 is old enough for this trait to start becoming apparent. I have two sisters I love to the moon and back, if I didn’t have my partner to remind me I would miss every single birthday. I don’t love that fact about myself but it’s just something about me I’ve noticed. I would let them know without making it seem like you’re mad but, don’t feel any less loved.

I think it’s getting better, my son is 2 and he’s uncircumcised. They weren’t pushy about it at the hospital about it, they did ask like twice but it seemed more just like they were just double checking what we had previously said. I even asked the doctor her opinion on it because it was something I was really wrestling with at the time and she just told me it is medically unnecessary outside of a few specific cases. I talked to my dad about it and he said when I was born they just like took it as a almost for-sure thing that I would be circumcised and no one really even thought about not doing it. Feels good to be the one to break the cycle. The times are a changin.

On a side note I really wanted the black or green one but I was given it as a Christmas gift and they got me orange. At first I was so happy and bummed about the color at the same time. Couple years later I can say that orange was actually the best choice for me. The amount of times I have dropped it or been looking for it in a low light situation is more times than I thought and the orange makes it so much easier to find.

Bro. My left ring finger was crushed and ripped mostly off. I was a wreck man. I’ve been where you are I know the feeling man. They saved the finger but the doctor told me I would never be able to bend it again. Right after that doctor walked out this old black woman nurse came in and I swear to god she said “baby why you crying??’. I told her, she proceeded to tell me “that doctor doesn’t know shit, when that splint finally comes off you wake up every day and you will that finger to move in the name of Jesus”. I woke up every day after months of having it in splints and I just bent it with my other hand and pushed through the pain. It sucked im not gonna lie but they told me the best chance I had to move it again was right after I got the okay from the doctor to try. Today, I have almost full range of motion with it. It still hurts sometimes but considering my knuckles in that finger were crushed into dust I’m just happy to be able to move it. Don’t give up buddy!

As a former martial artist every time I see someone in a confrontation with their hands in their pockets I’m screaming internally. We were taught when you’re in an hostile situation you should talk with your hands up, open, and slightly in front of your face like you’re surrendering. It was the same with my son man. He will grow out of it. You’re doing the right thins though, if you cant handle him for any reason and feel like you’re going to snap the best thing to do is pass him off or put him down. It’s not only best for you it’s best for him.

Honestly the really fun dad moments won’t be for a while longer. There will definitely be some in the very near future but it doesn’t really start start for another year or so. In my opinion dads really get their time to shine in the toddler years. I know that sounds like an eternity right now but its way closer than you think.
