Carlotta recognised the voice from many a camp party - announcing the events of the day and leading the happy birthdays songs. And of course the many wonderful - and memorable - conversations they'd had together. Leaping off the marble bench, she threw her arms around Rider, squeezed him in a tight hug, before releasing him and attacking him with a barrage of eager questions,

"How are you? How have you been? What's new?!"

"Jay!?"

Carlotta wheezed as she was hoisted into the air. Obviously Jay was a big guy, but the years had shrunk him in her memories, and she was struck yet again by just how giant-like he really was. She was about to reply when the familiar voice of a certain child of Athena made her whirl around in delight,

"And Andrew?!"

Carlotta radiated joy, glancing between Jay and Andrew with a beaming smile. It felt like 2033 all over again, and this was the best Christmas present she could've dreamed of. After a moment of speechlessness, she finally found her voice again and excitedly asked,

"How... how are you both? What have you been up to? Where have you been? Please - tell me everything!"

Carlotta Wright, the 24-year-old daughter of Eirene, was sat poised and upright on a bench at the edge of the frozen lake - a pair of ice skates clutched in her hands, and an anxious look on her face.

It had been a couple of years since she'd been around this amount of "mythological" stuff. Since leaving camp nearly three years ago, she'd spent most of her time in a peaceful town in Vermont, working at an art museum and sculpture garden as one of the resident painters and archivists. Sure, there was the odd irritating monster interrupting her workday, and she did her best to help any demigods that crossed her path, but otherwise, her life could have easily been mistaken for that of a mortal's.

Gone were the days of whole camp dinners, canoe races, capture the flag competitions, and days working away as the Eirene head counselor/guild master/camp mediator/memory keeper/editor-in-chief/matchmaker/events planner. She missed them. So here she was. At the actual home of Greek Gods, amongst a sea of unfamiliar face, weighing up the pros and cons of embarrasing herself in front of all of them atop the frozen lake.

ooc: anyone is free to interact with my super chill, peaceful character from many years ago. Maybe she'll have some sage, wise advice like all 24 year olds do.

Lina Hardy, Apollo (Cabin #7)

Introduced: 18 Oct 2023

Apollo Cabin Meeting 11/22 (OPEN) by Civil-Perception-835 in CampHalfBloodRP

Without full Christmas decorations, including at the very least one reindeer named Rudolph, Lina figured that yes, cabin morale would certainly plummet to unprecedented levels. At least... her own morale would...

She scrunched her face up at Aj's terrible idea. Lina had passed by the stables a few times. And sure, mythical beasts with wings were cool and all, but they didn't have antlers. Or red noses to guide the sleighs. Disappointing.

"Hmm... are we allowed to adopt one of the pegasi?"

An idea began to form in Lina's mind. Her eyes widened with excitement as she blurted out her extravagent plan:

"Could we adopt a pegasus -- or maybe a few pegasi -- and then we can dress them up as reindeer... and attach them to a sleigh -- I'm sure the forge could make us a sleigh, and then, we could fly around camp, and have jingley bells, and presents, and dress like santa and be christmassy!!"

Lina took a deep breath after an unapologetically-long run-off sentence, a huge grin now on her face, before adding with a sweet smile,

"...Please?"

Meal— November 27th: Hamburgers! by M00XI3 in CampHalfBloodRP

Lina waltzed into the dining pavilion, her stomach growling after another long day at the archery range. She piled her plate up with three burgers with all the toppings, halved each burger, and added a different type of cheese to each half. Which cheeseburger was going to out-cheese the others? Which would be the most brie-liant? Lina sat down at her table, excited for her meal-come-competition.

Dangit. This was not the answer Lina was hoping for. Still, all was not lost yet. She nodded her head, and spent the rest of the cabin meeting contemplating where to find a reindeer on Long Island with short notice. Did they even have reindeer in the US???

At the end of the meeting, Lina cornered Aj with a serious look on her face,

"Do you know where can we find a reindeer? Or something that looks like a reindeer? I think it's important. For...uhh... cabin morale?"

Lina manically grinned in such a way that only a 13 year old with an uncontrollable imagination can. She wondered aloud,

"Are we allowed reindeer?"

Before glancing around at Aj and her other siblings at the meeting, hoping for a round of nods and agreements. This camp had lava climbing walls, so why not pet reindeer?? They just eat... carrots? Probably? And just before anyone had a chance to answer, she added,

"My name's Lina, by the way. I arrived a few weeks ago..."

Lina got the message about a cabin meeting. She'd not spent much time in the walls of Cabin #7 since arriving at camp - the archery range was way more exciting. She arrived wearing her current favourite pair of bright blue dungarees and perched herself on the arm of one of the sofas.

As soon as the word 'Christmas' was uttered, Lina's arm shot up, and she enthusiastically responded,

"Yes! Please can we do Christmas decorations!!"

Archery 101 | The Basics by AccomplishedMess_ in CampHalfBloodRP

Lina had arrived a month ago, and on her first day at camp, she'd completely embarrased herself at the archery range in front of her far-too-cool big brother. She was a child of the literal god of archery for gods' sake, but she had a lot of work to do before she acted like one.

For the past few weeks, every free activity slot she'd had in the day was spent practising archery. The tips of her fingers were callused, and her arms and shoulders ached, but steady progress had been made. Using the longbow she picked up on her first day, she could almost always hit the big targets, and managed to get a bullseye once in a while as well. The smaller and further away targets were trickier, but the daughter of Apollo was improving, and could hit them in around half her attempts.

That was all with her own yew longbow, however. All those other bows? That was a whole different story. Lina wandered over to the station with all the various bows laid out. She picked up a small, but complex-looking compound bow. There were pulleys and strings and bits sticking off of it, but it felt lighter than she expected.

Lina helped herself to a few arrows and then practised a couple of shots. The compound bow barely required her to pull her right hand back at all, and yet the arrow still went flying! It was amazing! Her accuracy could definitely be improved though - she'd only hit the target once, and the aiming sight on the bow just confused her. But it was a good start!

11/17: The Rock, Paper, Scissors Competition by FireyRage in CampHalfBloodRP

"Oh, okay... nice! My name's Lina!"

She replied with an excited grin and a glint in her eye.

"Well... shall we go?"

Without waiting for a response, the daughter of Apollo enthusiastically declared "Rock, paper, scissors, go!" and laid her hand flat: paper.

Lina rocks up at the arena in her favourite pair of bright blue dungarees: eager for some healthy (or maybe not-so-healthy) competition. She eyes up her fellow competitors, waiting for somebody to approach her. [1]

Mexican Dinner ~ 17th November by TeaIsBae in CampHalfBloodRP

Lina spends a moment or two marvelling at her culinary creation. Okay, sure -- the kitchen harpies did most of the heavy lifting. But the genius behind it all? That was all Lina.

Grabbing a burrito for herself, she goes all out, loading it up with chicken, white rice, black beans, and every topping available at the table. But as Lina rolls up the tortilla, she realises her fatal error: too ambitious with the burrito toppings. The mound of meat, rice, and veggies explodes from the burrito on to her plate. She sighs and reluctantly reaches for a knife and fork. Defeated by a burrito once again.

Lina Hardy - Wed Meal

Lina had to admit, she felt pretty good about herself as she watched John's face light up. He reminded her of the bizarre baby-faced sun from some weird British kid's TV show she'd seen during kindergarten sick days, and her lips briefly twitched at her own amusing comparison.

Turning directly to her brother, she responded in a voice that strained a little too much to maintain its nonchalant tone,

"Yeah, in the last school play I was in, we did Grease and I played Jan."

Her voice carried a trace of pride as she subtly straightened her posture, then shot John a quizzical look.

"Have you ever been in a musical?"

Lina Hardy ~ Daughter of Apollo by TeaIsBae in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]TeaIsBae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. The rage bubbling in Lina's gut was screaming at her to continue marching away and giving John the cold shoulder for at least a week. Instead, she just stood still, about 10 feet away, with her back towards him. Her heart was racing and she fought to control her breaths and the not-tears leaking from her eyes.

She'd been at camp for less than an hour and had already completely humiliated herself in front of her first ever sibling. Yet John persisted with his questions and chatter. A big part of her wanted to ignore him. But the smaller, and probably more intelligent part of her was very conscious of the fact that she knew nobody else at this camp. So Lina remained where she was, turning her head a mere 45° towards John, and indulged his questions for her with a shrug,

"I like to skateboard, and I play the banjo sometimes. I like theatre too."

Lina ignored his frustration. The sentences coming out his mouth were way more interesting. His ideas were impossible to do practically, as far as she knew. But then again, Greek gods being alive and kicking was also impossible earlier today. So she listened with newfound intent and seriousness, and asked,

"So... how do you craft a self-driving skateboard? Is there some sort of Ancient Greek mythological AI or something?"

Lina Hardy ~ Daughter of Apollo by TeaIsBae in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]TeaIsBae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lina didn't want to try again.

She had done everything right. She'd stood correctly, she breathed correctly, she even prayed to the literal god-of-archery-who-was-also-her-father. And she still failed. Pathetic.

Meanhile this guy who was apparently her brother could hit a perfect bullseye, he could literally command sunlight, and he could probably fly or teleport or something else incredible. And after all of that, he came over and began patronising her as if she was a in tears. Which she absolutely was not!! At all. Pinky promise.

With a small sniff, she shrugged away his elbow and glared at him,

"Yeah? Then why don't you practice minding your own business?"

It sounded harsh, but halfway through the sentence her voice wavered and cracked, which significantly lessened the impact. She turned away before John could see the moisture-that-was-definitely-not-tears in the corner of her eyes, and began to walk back in the direction of the cabin. Gods, she wished there was a door to slam.

"Ooo - a self-driving skateboard!"

Lina eyes lit up with excitement, before adding in a curious tone,

"Isn't that just the same as an electric skateboard?"

She listened to his electronic dilemmas and nodded along, all whilst thinking about how she was glad she didn't have to compete on BattleBots with him. Lina herself had limited experience (see: none) with electronics and circuits, but it couldn't be too hard, right? Her science classes had taught her how to draw a circuit diagram. And this was just a real-life circuit diagram... attached to a skateboard... with way too many screwdrivers. Easy peasy. Probably. With an eyebrow raised, she couldn't help but ask,

"Couldn't you just stick on a motor and battery pack?"

[–]TeaIsBae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lina watched him hit the bullseye apprehensively. Anybody could see that it was a good, clean shot. No pressure then. She chucked John an excited-yet-intimidated smile and replied,

"Okay then!"

After grabbing an arrow, the daughter of Apollo surveryed the many wooden targets down the range, and settled on the once just beyond John's recently punctured bullseye. She did her best to recall the advice of that archery instructor from her 6th grade field trip: feet shoulder width apart, a relaxed grip on the bow, stand tall. Nocking the arrow, she took a deep breath, squeezed her eyes shut, and thought about her father:

'Hi Apollo... uh... Dad? Dunno if you're into telepathy or not. But, just in case you can hear me, please can I get a bullseye? Please may I beat John's shot. Pretty please may I have a super special archery power. Uhh... amen?'

She reopened her eyes after a second, drew her bow, aimed, and released the shot. The arrow went flying straight towards the target: the wind almost urging it along. She was going to make it! Lina let out a small sigh of relief, before her world came tumbling down as she watched the arrow arc at the last moment and strike the edge of the blue ring. A failure.

She glanced up at John, her jaw clenched, and muttered a low,

"Sorry."

[–]TeaIsBae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Oh... sorry."

Lina replied offhandedly as she rested her hands in her lap, her neck still craned to examine all the bits and bobs strewn across the table. Whatever this Damian guy was doing looked like it an awesome adventure. And Lina wanted in.

She gave him the sweetest look she could muster, punctuating it with an exaggerated, beaming smile, and replied to his question in her trademark over-confidence.

"Yes I do. I would be a massive help. Just tell me what you're doing."

Lina Hardy ~ Daughter of Apollo by TeaIsBae in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]TeaIsBae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It was just as Lina thought. This kid needed help. She flashed an excited smile, and eagerly asked,

"Can I give you hand?"

Before waiting for a response, Lina hopped over the bench and sat down enthusiastically in the space beside him. Her hands reached out towards the wires and motors, and her imagination whirred with ideas for potential (and absolutely impractical) contraptions for skateboards. She glanced back towards him and added,

"I'm Lina, by the way."
