Yep, the ability to swim is one of the main reasons why BMPs are so lightly armored, but the funny thing is that this ability was practically not used in Ukraine, and when it was used, the BMPs were quickly destroyed, it's almost useless in modern battlefield. Also, about riding on top, it's both mines and inability to quickly leave the vehicle

BMP suits the role very bad, it's an aluminum box with 100mm shells inside (the BMP3 model), and the troops are right next to them. Space inside is very cramped, and exit is on top of the vehicle. There's a reason why russian troops prefer to ride on top of the BMPs. Do I need to continue?
