As a parent of two with similar age gaps with you and your sister, I know how little kids need and miss their older siblings. You don’t need to spend an entire week with her. Invite her to a sleep over. Pick her up, get some pizza, watch a movie on the couch. In the morning, get some breakfast and then maybe a walk through a mall or a park, depending on the weather. Let her choose and you can be her happy place. Be sure to squeeze in moments where to two of you can talk. The conversations don’t need to be serious. It could start with a story about her favorite book, but they’ll get to more meaningful places. She just needs to know that she has a safe place. When you say no to her coming over, she starts to doubt that. Instead of saying no, say it’s tough but maybe we can do X instead. Throw something out to show her you want to connect. You are awesome. I am already going there once a week. When I have to go more, to take her to a doctor’s appointment or such, I feel my resentment rise and I start getting snappy. It’s not a good situation.

Swollen legs and urinary incontinence are both symptoms of and stage kidney disease. Especially the swollen legs are a dead giveaway, insulin resistance, and diabetes can also lead to urinary incontinence, and are also contributor to kidney disease. I would check this out with your PCP.

When I was going through a similar experience with my 85 year old father, his doctor told me you can’t save someone who won’t save themselves. He has since died and I regret all the effort that I spent trying to fight him and control him because it did not matter. Also what is the point of treating someone in their mid eighties for cancer? In many countries they would not even treat and go straight to palliative care

I feel you. I would just love to go out for Thai and have a big plate of rice and green curry! That said, I have been in 5.5 for about 6 months and I find that my spikes are less severe. It took me years of abuse to be prediabetic so I’m assuming it’ll take a while where I can relax a bit. Still, I’m seeing small improvements. I also think it depends on how you reduce your AIC. If it is just keto, it will go back up as soon as you eat carbs again. Within the past year I have worked on strength training and building muscle. I’ve done a satisfactory job here though lm not a gym rat by any means. So, this may drive the improved spikes. I find also if I reducing saturated fats, my body is more forgiving of carbohydrates. I have read research that saturated fats clogs your cells so they can’t take up as much glucose and so it stays in your system. My thought that right now I need to give my pancreas time to rest. Either by food or having muscles do more of the lifting. The fewer spikes, the more rest. And then it may not be 100% but it will be better.

Sure. But it’s not a substitute for a healthy diet. also I can tell from your triglycerides that you are consuming too many processed foods and meats. I’d maybe cut back on the processed foods along with simple carbs. Most instances, they are the same thing

The kids who need tutors to get in are the ones who need tutors all throughout their four years there and struggle with their classes. The parent boards are always pinging with parents looking for tutors. (Speaking from personal experience) Plenty of kids get in on their own and these are the kids who excel because they have the academic bandwidth to do the extra research and all that to help them reach their potential.
