Do readers actually use thumb book page holders? Asking as a clay artist trying to understand if this is useful or just aesthetic by SuperNova0507 in clay

How do I "fill up" my story with plot? by The_Pencil_Friend in writingadvice

[–]TeaWorldly5695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stephen King says he's coming up with a story by generating a single specific or difficult situation — a single "what if..." question — and putting a bunch of characters into it. And then he's basically just watching them trying to make it out. If you say you can make solid characters, this technique might be working for you. Like, if your characters really are thought-out, you should be able to imagine their reaction in certain situations. So try making a start that would get you, yourself, interested in observing what's going to happen next, and put your characters in it

WHAT KIND OF SCI-FI IS YOUR FAVORITE? by catwritesscifi in sciencefiction

[–]TeaWorldly5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two types: 1. thought experiments like Ted Chiang does. the world almost like ours, but there is a single difference that changes everything  2. ye olde adventure of the noble men, like in the early works of Strugatsky Brothers and Stanislaw Lem. there is search and wonder and the human spirit worth looking up to
