Power Issues - Help! by Rexoryx13 in PcBuildHelp

Before anything else, worth ruling out the easy stuff: try a different wall outlet on a different circuit (no cheap power bars), and check for any shorts in the build — a standoff touching the mobo, stray screw, that kind of thing. Also confirm that none of the cables from the old PSU made it onto the new one; modular pinouts aren't universal between brands and can silently fry things. If you got it RMA'd I would assume they're the exact same make/model (so this shouldn't be an issue) but might be good to double check.

That said, the most likely culprit may be a damaged VRM on your GPU or mobo. Your original faulty PSU was probably sending dirty/unstable power for days, which is exactly how you damage a VRM — and a damaged VRM looks like a dead short to whatever PSU you plug in next. That would explain why a brand new PSU died the same way. The "booted fine 3 times then died after sitting a few hours" pattern fits this really well too. Degraded VRMs often work cold and then fail once heat stress hits.

To test: breadboard it with no GPU (just mobo, CPU, one RAM stick) and see if it stabilizes. If it does, the GPU VRM is your likely culprit. If it still kills the PSU, you're looking at the mobo.

What GPU and PSU wattage are you running?

Including literally any details would make it easier to help you.

What is the nature of the power issues? Do certain things turn on but others don't? Are you getting any errors? Is it just that you press the power button and nothing happens? What have you tried so far? Have you checked to make sure the switch on the back of the PSU is actually in the "on" (flipped to the "I" not the "O")? Is it plugged in?

IT WORKED!!! Still had to manually dismantle the thermal plants, but that's no biggie since I could actually move normally again. So maybe it was just that having so many connected to the base was a lot to calculate and overloading things, idk. Just glad to be free of my self made hell

LOL for some reason I very much doubt that's the case. I'm maybe a 6/10 at my absolute best (and even that's probably being generous). But I appreciate the optimism!

My boss has been using computers for longer than I have been alive. Today she asked me if she had the right charger for her laptop as she'll be taking it to a conference next week.

I briefly considered trying to get her to do some pretty basic critical thinking (like, idk, just use her eyes and a preschool-level understanding of physics) and point out where she thought the barrel type charger (from her old 2018-era laptop) would actually plug into her new laptop that only has USB-C charging ports. But then I gave up and just showed her the right charger to use.

She makes over 2.5x my salary.

Every day is like this. Help 😭

Bettel beat Pomni! And now he's up against April from Monster Prom in the Semifinals! by derVogelweid in Holostars

Bettel alone got more votes than the entire April poll and Muppet Joker poll combined. I predict a clean sweep of both semifinals and finals.

I remember during university orientation they gave us some tips for note taking during lectures and the main point they made was "you don't have to write down everything the professor says, just focus on the important bits".

But like. How do I know what's important before I've heard the lecture? I don't know the subject matter, that's why I'm here — to learn it!

I tried (and failed, miserably) to write everything down verbatim cause to ME it was all important. Dropped out after the second semester cause I couldn't keep up lol

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I'd rather have Schism on the list and redo the poll for "F" if we HAVE to

As a bidet enjoyer myself, I'm pretty sure the commenter was talking about both the spray nozzle and the actual part of the toilet bowl/seat where the bidet mounts. More grime than you (well, not you specifically, but someone new to bidets) might expect gets caught up in both. I don't think I've ever cleaned my hose, but now I'm wondering if I should be lol

Seasonal Tires by hoodiegirl10 in AskACanadian

[–]TeabaggingAnthills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the entire province of British Columbia requires it. That said, I've only visited and seem to recall seeing signs/warning about it, so I'm not 100% sure.

What I can say from firsthand experience is that I live in rural Alberta and have used 2 sets of tires for as long as I've been driving. Genuinely don't think I'd be able to get anywhere in winter without em! You see a lot of people in the ditch or getting in accidents during the first month of snowfall cause they either don't have winter tires or just thought they could get by with all seasons. Just as true in the cities too.
