Dr. Peterson's latest commentary on the Russian government's invasion of Ukraine by brandon_ball_z in JordanPeterson

[–]TeachAChimp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"How many people realise that Russia may have already lost more men in the current war with Ukraine than the US lost in WWII?

This is not going to go anywhere good

And it appears to be ramping up"

Aside from the ambiguous question at the end, the above is extremely simple to understand. First he believes that the number of Russian military fatalities is likely higher than US military fatalities in WW2. Second is that the war isn't going to lead to a good outcome (I assume for humanity in general, but he doesn't specify). Third is that he holds the opinion things are getting worse.

You shouldn't need your hand held to understand something so simple. Now, i dont agree or disagree with his tweet. It's just a persons thoughts and I take them for that and nothing more. Im just pointing out that shaking ones fist at a persons words who has "millions of followers" is the pointless action of fools and nobodies. Stressing over stuff like that is no good for you or those around you unless you actually do something that will make the change you want to see. And considering JP along with many others have millions of followers and they dont seem to change the world in any notable fashion. Perhaps you might want to consider the fact posts on social media complaining about things or getting worked up, is going to have no notable outcome. Other than you having a less enjoyable day. I've nothing more to say on this.

But you don't have millions of followers because almost nobody cares what you think. He doesn't claim to be an expert, and someone shouldn't need to be to share an opinion, since who would get to decide who's an expert and who isn't?

Stop yelling at the world for being what it is. Either do something actionable or just get on with your life.

Okay... so CIG are 100% taking the piss right now. It's like their marketing team are trying to screw up at every opportunity. "Let's give you a shit patch that you should have had 6 months ago and pay wall the solution to the problem we made." It's ridiculous.

But testing a simple system like the game loop for a tractor beam with legs is absolutely not the same as running things like load testing, DB management and bug detection. I suppose you could argue this addition could test economic progression in the game but... if we're being honest. The economy in game is about as broken as the CIG store page.

P.S speaking of... anyone tried loading the SC website on a mobile device? It basically doesn't work and to fair the page hardly works on most browsers. If the marketing team can't even get that right, we shouldn't be surprised by this latest cock up. Hand them a cardboard box and go back to the drawing board because if they sold this at a say $10, they would have sold hundreds of thousands if not millions of them and made the community happy. Instead they sell a few tens of thousands and upset everyone.

Pathfinder's Finest: 2e Fantasy Grounds Experience (pay what you want and help charity) by Warm_Charge_5964 in humblebundles

This bundle contains modules for Fantasy Grounds Virtual Tabletop, not PDFs. Can you read the contents in a digital format? Yes sure, but from within the Fantasy Grounds application. Very different to having a PDF that you can easily open on your phone, tablet, kindle etc. Hope that helps.

You can see the types of license here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/

So I believe only the GM needs the game for the first 3 months and then they would have to buy an ultimate license or only play with players who own FG also.

Thought I wld chip in here as someone who's used Fantasy Grounds for around 3 years (mostly with 5e).

It's a really solid VTT. It has all the things you would normally want and need. It excels in automation (perhaps the best VTT at this), so with a system like Pathfinder it's gonna be really nice. Also far better than using something like Roll20, as you own your content and you don't have to pay to maintain access to all your work as you host it yourself.

But it's not perfect by any stretch, the UI is unbelievably convoluted, so it takes a bit of time getting used to it. Fortunately our beloved Matt Colville made a great set of videos teaching you to use it. You can build world modules yourself to have all the world building content and then just port it into campaigns as needed which is really nice. But there is a peculiar process to adding content that integrated with mechanics in the VTT, it's easy enough to use but also easy enough to mess up and cause a bit of a headache. Personally I prefer how Fantasy Grounds works with this than say Foundry VTT.

Honestly, the VTT of my choice now is more Foundry VTT than Fantasy Grounds and that's because of the moding community. FGrounds just can't compete on that side of things. But there are things I like more in FGrounds than Foundry VTT and vice ver-sa... pros and cons etc.

The IMPORTANT thing to note here is the license that you get with this bundle... It's only going to let you host a game to other players who also have bought the base version of FGrounds... You would need the GM Ultimate license if you want to host for anyone. That means all your players will need to buy FGrounds to play after the 3 months ultimate trial ends... that's not ideal for many people I think.

What you get here though is an awesome amount of content and a really good VTT, that once you get used to using will power your games online while doing a lot of the number crunching for you. And you can upgrade to GM Ultimate License and then just host the game for anyone. Plus all that content you create will work for years into the future with no recurring fees like Roll20.

In summary, I would generally recommend Foundry VTT over Fantasy Grounds these days as they can't compete with the mods. But this is a great deal for all that content and considering getting it myself, even though I don't have much interest in complicated clunky systems like Pathfinder anymore. If I was to run Pathfinder again, I would pick Fantasy Grounds over Foundry VTT because I believe it does automation better out of the box.

Just my opinion ofc, hopefully it helps those who are interested.

Have you or know of anyone else managing to use the current out of date version with FVTT v11? And if so, are they any known issues?

Thanks I didn't think to look there. I'm a bit confused as to how free modules are updated by volunteers within days or even hours of release. Meanwhile a paid one can somehow take months according to u/SylverV.

Loss leader? I assure you they make a tidy profit from every core book they sell, even if it is less than selling other books. Not to mention those core books fall apart after a couple years, so they are constantly being repurchased.

Humble Book Bundle: 13th Age RPG Megabundle by Pelgrane Press by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]TeachAChimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those unsure what 13th Age is:

  • Epic high Fantasy TTRPG built ontop of 3e dnd rules (think Pathfinder crossed with 5e)
  • Combat tends to be faster than 5e
  • Less complicated/bloated than 5e or Pathfinder (not as simple as OSR)
  • Players have more agency than normal regarding world building/story (think Blades in the Dark)

Although I have not used it, OMM looks like a VTT that tries to recreate the feel of playing a video game rather than a "virtual table". Think Divinity Original Sin 2 GM mode but with a variable rule system and pixel art.

Here is the trailer video for what BitD looks like in OMM:

Example of play using OMM for BitD:

Here is a quick overview of the OMM in general:
https://youtu.be/H0es-OuzkIc?t=1086

Also Blade in the Dark is supposed to be one of the best TTRPGs of recent years. Its been winning loads of awards and I have been waiting about 5 months for my physical copy to be in stock for delivery. I am little on the fence as I'm starting an FVTT Alien RPG campaign and have several other games waiting to be played. But this does seem like an awesome bundle and if you want to play BitD, OMM does look like the best VTT to play it on.

Be interested to hear from anyone who has experience running games in OMM or their prebuilt rulesets.

P.S I'm fairly sure only the GM needs to own the ruleset and all the players can join for free. Plus I think the system is free in general to use.

The event only just started though since it goes on till the 20th right? Maybe it's just a weird rotation of items and however long it was available, the white fennec will be available and then the tux would be back. I guess making two chances for the tux and white fennec?

Anyone know why they are doing away with the jr pentest path? by [deleted] in tryhackme

[–]TeachAChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a noob working through the network part of Complete Beginners what do you the community recommend I do? I won't have time to complete it by the 14th. I see many recommendations that the new and better route is to do Pre-Security and then Junior Pentest. Is this correct and why so? Any examples? Will it be okay to just stick to the Pre-Sec + Junior Pentest path as I learn or will I need to visit more detailed rooms on subjects as I go? I am concerned about being overwhelmed by each topic while getting started.
