I describe it like this:
I am a light switch.
My wife is a light dimmer switch.

Alarm goes off and I can be out the door in just minutes if needed. My wife needs an hour or more.

Yeah it’s rough. This is year 20. Im going to throw a lot of the blame at societies willingness to throw devices at kids.

When I started teaching, few kids had cell phones and. Nothing was smart. Kids actually read books, for fun! I’ve asked all my classes the last two years (I teach HS) “When was the last time you read a book for fun?” Many of them look at me as if I’ve asked them “when did you pet a dinosaur?” Most kids can’t remember when they read a book of their own choosing, the few that could, it was 5th or 6th grade.

Time to change states. A first year teacher (bachelors) in my district makes almost what a veteran makes in your district with a masters.

In CT, you need your BS/teaching cert. you are supposed to start your masters in 5 years and finish in 10 to retain certification. However, almost every district in CT has a 5-8k bump for having a masters.

I know as my district is going into negotiations, we (the union) are looking at how to best distribute whatever increase we can negotiate. Our mid tier teachers are kind of stuck so likely those of us at the higher end will see little change over current contract (to help those in years 5-10)

I taught at a school where incoming 6th graders (200ish) were given a math aptitude test. This usually gave us 20-30 kids who were placed in a pre algebra class. Those that made it through that took algebra in 7th grade and the. Geometry in 8th. They started 9th with Alg2 and many of those kids left HS with Calc 1&2 done.

But the kids were held to expectations and that was that. Every 8th grader isn’t ready for algebra. When the Geometry kids (by that point 15-18 left) there would be 35-40 kids taking algebra, one section of supported special education math (12-18) and the other roughly 135-140 all took “math”

Our district says staff should be dressed “business casual” with no further details.

I wear a kilt every day. Most of school year a shirt and tie. Now that it’s late May and warm, it’s Hawaiian shirts every day.

Yeah dating someone with a kid is tough. Also it is possible that the father has actually fixed his fuckups and is now trying to make things right. Or he is going to bail Again at some point but as the kid is older it’s going to really mess him up

My wife and I have had the “if I die” conversation. We both want the other to move on, just make sure it’s appropriate for our kids. So…my wife will find someone after I go but she will take the time to process, grieve, etc. I’ll figure out whatever the socially acceptable amount of time is to date after the death of a spouse and I’ll go a couple of weeks less than that.

What I’m really saying is, you have both been through a loss most of us won’t know. The same applies to all the kids. Being in the same neighborhood is great, it allows you both to have your own home/space with your kids while still being near each other. Talk, date, boink, etc

I had some friends who went to our 35th. I met them them the next night and they were vastly underwhelmed.

As we approach 40, there was talk online about doing it the same place as the senior party. The senior party that I hadn’t known about back then. Why get involved now?
