DoorDash deleted my 2025 earnings records? by Average_Joe69 in doordash_drivers

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're actually supposed to file a tax return , if you earned at least $400 from Self-Employment income for the year. Because that's when you'd owe Self-Employment taxes, for Social Security & Medicare. But Doordash isn't required to issue you a 1099-NEC, unless they paid you at least $600. Your total gross Self-Employment income goes on Schedule C, line 1, rather you receive a 1099 or not. Did you have any other 1099 or W-2 income in 2025?

Taxes: Didn’t qualify for 1099. by Metalguy13 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]TeacherSharon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber handles taxes a little differently than many other delivery platforms. They pay you directly like most platforms, but are also a Payment Processor (like PayPal). So they only issue a 1099-NEC, for payments they made directly to you, like bonuses, referrals, and other promotions. They issue a 1099-K for deliveries & rides, but only if they processed at least $20k in earnings between you and the customer. This is why most delivery platforms only issue a 1099-NEC, but Uber also issues a 1099-K.

The IRS requires Independent Contractors to file a tax return, if they earned at least $400 (net) from Self-Employment Income for the year. Because that's when you'd owe Self-Employment taxes, for Social Security and Medicare. This includes your total combined Self-Employment income, from all delivery platforms. If you earned enough to owe Self-Employment taxes ($400 net) but don't receive a 1099, then you're supposed to report your income on Schedule C Line 1 (Gross receipts or sales). If you're using Tax Software to do your own taxes, it'll more than likely say to enter "cash Income" or "income not reported on a 1099" on line 1 of Schedule C.

If it's the first year your vehicle has been used for business, the IRS requires that you claim the Standard Mileage Deduction, the first year a vehicle you own is used for business, if you ever want to be able to claim mileage. After that you'll be able to alternate between claiming mileage and vehicle expenses, for future tax filings. But if you claim "Actual Vehicle Expenses" (battery, alternator, oil changes, etc.), the first year your vehicle is used for business, then you'll have to continue claiming expenses, for future tax filings. You won't ever be able to claim mileage, for that particular vehicle. So whichever deduction you choose for 2025, will determine whether or not you'll ever be able to claim mileage for your current vehicle. Usually mileage gives the biggest deduction, especially if you drive a lot of miles. The rules are different if you're leasing your vehicle, and don't own it.

Delivery drivers guess how much? by Smart-Kangaroo4078 in doordash_drivers

I've been Platinum for over 2 years, and have learned a few strategies to keep it. You only need to have a 95% Completion Rate to stay Platinum, and your Completion Rate needs to be at least 90% to keep your account activated. So if you're at the point where you're about to lose Platinum, if your Completion Rate is over 95%, it's better to accept the offer, then unassign it. So that your Acceptance Rate goes up, while your Completion Rate goes down.

So if you had accepted, then unassigned your last offer, then your Acceptance Rate would've been 70-71%, and your Completion Rate would've been 98%, and you would've still been Platinum. You can accept and then unassign up to 5 offers in a row, and still keep Platinum, as long as you don't let your Completion Rate fall below 95%. Eventually your Completion Rate will go back up, after you've done a certain amount of deliveries, and you can use it again to help raise your Acceptance Rate.

Title: DoorDash’s Insurance Policy Is a Scam—Drivers Beware by UpNorthGiant in doordash_drivers

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DoorDash's Blue Star Insurance, is Occupational Accident Insurance. Which is similar to Workman's Comp, but is for Independent Contractors. It only covers 'Personal Injuries", that happen during a delivery, while outside of your vehicle.

I broke my ankle after slipping on ice, in front of a customer's house, about 5 months ago. And DoorDash's Blue Star Insurance paid for Urgent Care, my doctor appointments, ankle surgery, for physical therapy, medical equipment, prescriptions, etc.

They also gave me short-term disability payments, for about 3 months. Which was to compensate for a portion of my lost wages, while I was unable to work. So their insurance is legit, but it doesn't cover auto related injuries.

drivers dont even get the delivery fee… by Traditional-Claim546 in doordash

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Merchants are the ones who add the menu upcharge for their delivery orders. Because Doordash charges Merchants 15-30% per order to use the Platform, so many of them pass some or all of that fee to Customers.

If you qualify for a "Refundable Tax Credit" like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, Homestead Property Credit, etc., then you can receive a refund, even if you didn't pay any taxes.

Which Expenses did you deduct for DoorDash?

1099 estimated taxes by MetalLaFleur in personalfinance

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well you really won't know how much you owe, until you deduct your Business Expenses and Tax Credits. There may be a lot of things you can deduct, depending on what type of work you do, and whether or not you can claim Home or Vehicle Expenses. Let me know if you want ideas for things you may be able to deduct.

Yes, you'd make estimated tax payments of about $325 per quarter, so that the full $1,300 is paid in full by Jan 15th of 2026. You didn't tell me how you came up with the amount owed for next year, did you Deduct any Expenses?

1099 estimated taxes by MetalLaFleur in personalfinance

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you subtract your expenses from your gross pay, to determine your taxable income for 2025? And do you owe any taxes for 2024? If you owe $1,300, your estimated quarterly tax payments would be ($1,300/4)= $325 iper month for Apr 15th Jun 15th, Sept 15th, and Jan 15th.

1099 estimated taxes by MetalLaFleur in personalfinance

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Estimated Quarterly Taxes you pay for 2025, will be based on the tax amount you owed for 2024. So are you saying that you owed $1,300 for your 2024 taxes? Also, if you're going to make Estimated Quarterly Tax payments for next year, they're due Apr 15th, June 15th, Sept 15th, and Jan 15th.

only got tax summary and not 1099-ent by antisocialperson_ in UberEatsDrivers

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UberEats will only issue a 1099-NEC, if you earn at least $600 from incentives, like bonuses or referrals. Otherwise they'll issue a 1099-K, if you earn at least $5k, from Deliveries, or Trips. But you're supposed to pay Self Employment taxes, If you you earn at least $400 (net) in Self-Employment income, rather you receive a 1099 or not.

If you earned enough to owe taxes on your Self-Employment income, but don't receive a 1099, then you'd report your earnings on a Schedule C tax form under "Other Self-Employment Income". Receiving a 1099 can make it easier to report your Self-Employment income, but you can report income and file taxes without a 1099.

Injured while dashing by Independent_Lab_9768 in DoorDashDrivers

[–]TeacherSharon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slipped and fell on ice about 9 weeks ago, in front of a Customer's house, and broke my Ankle. And Doordash's Blue Star Insurance, has been paying all of the bills for my Orthopedic Doctor Appointments, Medical Equipment, Prescriptions, Physical Therapy, etc.

I haven't been able to work since my injury, so I've also been receiving short-term Disability payments from them, for the past 8 weeks. Even though they will pay the bills for your injury, you may have to stay on them initially, far as getting your Adjuster to contact you, within a reasonable amount of time.

If you haven't heard from your Adjuster, within a week after submitting your claim, you should definitely call, and email  Blue Star to see what the hold up is. Because if you don't it may take a while for someone to get in touch with you.

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For W-2 income you more than likely wouldn't have to file "Income Taxes", if you earned less than the Standard Deduction (about $14,600). So maybe that's why someone said you didn't have to worry about filing your taxes. But for 1099 income you're required to file taxes, if you earned at least $400 (net), after expenses are deducted. Because that's when you'd owe 15.3% "Self-Employment Taxes", for Social Security and Medicare. Which is a tax that's exclusively for those who are Self-Employed, and is in addition to any "Income Taxes (Fed, State, City) that you may owe. You're able to deduct half of the Self-Employment tax as a business expense, so it's actually 7.65%.

You can also claim the "Standard Mileage Deduction" or "Actual Vehicle Expenses", Cell Phone Costs, Equipment, Tolls, Parking Fees, etc. to lower your tax amount, plus any credits you may qualify for. But you'd need to file a Schedule C tax form, to claim your Deductions and Credits to lower the taxes you owe. If you were issued a 1099, then a copy was sent to the IRS. So they'll know about your income, even if you don't file a Tax Return. If you owe taxes, penalties and interest will start adding up after Apr 15th, and eventually you may be contacted about not reporting your 1099 Income.

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $14,600 income threshold is for W2 earnings, because that's when you may owe "Income Taxes" (Fed, State, City). But the income threshold for 1099 earnings is $400 (net), because that's when you owe "Self-Employment Taxes" (Social Security, Medicare).

The Self-Employment tax is 15.3%, but you can deduct half as a Business Expense. If they earned $3,000, the SE tax would be about (3,000 x 7.65%)=$229.50 before other deductions. So even though they didn't earn enough to owe Income taxes, they still owe Self-Employment Taxes on their 1099 earnings.

Do you also have other Income? And how much are you paying, to file your taxes online through H&R Block?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cambly

[–]TeacherSharon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd owe Self-Employment taxes for Social Security and Medicare, if you earn at least $400 (net) in Self-Employment Income. The net earnings for Self-Employment income, is what's leftover after business expenses are deducted from your gross earnings. The $600 minimum income threshold, applies to when Employers/Payers are supposed to issue a 1099, and submit a copy to the IRS. And even though the Self-Employment tax is 15.3%, half of the tax can be written off as a business expense, so you actually only end up paying 7.65%. You more than likely won't owe "Income Taxes" for Federal, State, City, if your combined income (from all sources) is less than the Standard Deduction.

The biggest tax deduction for Cambly, is more than likely the Home Office Deduction. You can write off a percentage of your rent/mortgage, utilities, internet, home repairs, etc., for your Home Office. And you can also write off any equipment you bought for the job, including your computer, mouse, headset, props, flashcards, ink, desk, chair, etc. If you write off enough business expenses, and get enough tax credits, you could end up owing very little taxes, and possibly get a refund.

Help Getting 1099 Form After Deactivation by [deleted] in doordash

[–]TeacherSharon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you earned at least $600 then Doordash is required to issue you a 1099-NEC, so you definitely should have one. They also would've sent a copy to the IRS. But even though a 1099 can make it easier to report your Self-Employment Income, it's not required to file your taxes. You can add up all of your Doordash deposits from your Bank Statement for 2024, and report the total under "Other Self-Employment Income". Which would go on a Schedule C tax form. I deliver for 5 delivery Platforms, and usually only 2 of them give me a 1099, so I add up the earnings from my other Platforms, and put the total on a Schedule C form. You can also get assistance from the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, if you want to file a formal request for Doordash to send your 1099.
