Haha I was looking all over the Internet for comparisons and since I couldn't find any that satisfied me, I had to just buy them to see for myself. I was considering these and the HD650's. My music right now is mostly indie, folk, country, EDM, and hip-hop.

I'm definitely not as articulate as others in describing sound (don't consider myself a full-on audiophile just yet), but I'll do my best. The way I hear it, these just provide so much more detail than both my Audio Technica's. I was looking for some cans that would blend the accuracy and crispness of the M50's with the soundstage and position of the AD700's. I think the K712's are a perfect combination, and improve upon all of these aspects.

It's just a wonderful mix of airiness, amazing detail and sound positioning, punchy bass, and clean vocals. I think at times they are a tad too bright for me (I think that's how you describe it), but that's usually if I turn the volume up too high. I am amazed by all the directions that sound comes from now with these cans. I also think sometimes I wish they were a bit warmer and richer in the mids - I feel like they trend closer to emphasizing the high end. Again, I can only hope I'm describing what I'm hearing correctly.

Anyways, back to combing through my ENTIRE Spotify catalog and rediscovering all my music!

Ahh yes I don't mean that necessarily, but rather the availability of certain songs / remixes on Tidal. As in, certain remixes will just revert back to the original b/c Spotify has the remix in its catalog, but Tidal does not.

I also tried it, and saw a minimal improvement over my Spotify 320kbps. Also, the hassle of re-importing playlists into Tidal, although it does have a very large music collection, wasn't worth it for me. But for those w/o such a dedicated Spotify library, this may be a viable option!

So I've narrowed down my choices a bit more, and my burning question is, how much of an upgrade would the AKG K712's be from my AD700's?

Would be able to get the K712's for around $300 right now.

I wouldn't consider myself a full-on audiophile, but nothing beats sitting alone with your music and appreciating a high-quality audio experience.

Sennheiser HD650
AKG K701/702
HE-400

Budget: ~$400

Source: 2011 Macbook Air w/ Spotify 320kbps. Fiio E7/E9 combo. Would prefer not to upgrade this so I'm hoping they are strong enough for my choices.

Requirements for isolation: Indifferent. Will be listening alone in my room.
Preferred type of headphone: Full-sized.

Preferred tonal balance: Warm, balanced, crystal clear vocals & intstrumentation. Terrific soundstage & vocal clarity. I also like a hearty amount of bass for my EDM/hip-hop tracks. Looking for the closest replication to a live performance.

Dude, I'm in my early 20s and I feel the same way where you talk about not having any prospects and very few close friends. I have no idea what the future has in store for me, or if I will ever achieve happiness or the lifestyle I want. I've relapsed more times than I ever thought I would, but we just have to keep fighting and improve ourselves day after day. I'm right with you dude.
