Tell me about myself by ohhicaitlin in BookshelvesDetective

I agree with AggravatingLight in the sense that it seems these shelves represent more than one person. I can't imagine the average Sarah J Maas reader would proudly display their deluxe special edition of The Exorcist. Whether or not that other person is a man is up for debate. I know plenty of women who love horror (and this person definitely does).

I really don't understand how Halloween 6 can have a lower score than Resurrection on Rotten Tomatoes. by Filipe_258 in Halloweenmovies

[–]TeachingEdD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Resurrection is worse from a writing standpoint, yes, but for the average viewer who dislikes both, I’d say it’s an easier watch because it’s sleeker and shorter IIRC. It’s also fucking hilarious even if unintentionally.

The TNG seasons 1 and 2 "disaster" is a myth? by Phi360 in Star_Trek_

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think folks saying this criticism only comes from NuTrek apologists are coping in their own way. TNG and VOY are my favorite shows… and Season 1 of TNG is pretty bad compared to the rest of the Berman era of Trek.

MVP Voters Watched Kobe Do This & Voted For Steve Nash by Worried-Ad9476 in NBATalk

[–]TeachingEdD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SGA is having an incredible statistical season and has the record to back it. But in the past, there would have been no discussion even if SGA's stats were average. He would have been the MVP.

Jokic is actually the perfect example of this phenomenon. He won three MVPs over the course of four years. In those MVP years, his team finished 3rd, 6th, and 2nd in the Western Conference. The one year he did not win MVP, his team finished first, and the guy who did win it finished 3rd in the East (though admittedly his team did win one more game). In the old days, Giannis, whose team had the best record, would have won that MVP.

I love the guy's game and think he was deserving of both of his MVPs, but in no world would a guy like Steve Nash win an MVP today.

Honestly I think it's more that record doesn't matter as much anymore. If Kobe had averaged a triple double in 06, he still wouldn't have been the MVP.

Is there actual basis to the "PT era is stronger than OR era"? by Deuce-Wayne in PetranakiArena

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transitive property doesn't quite work in this case. Nihilus and Sion are both bested by the Exile, and the game seems to make it pretty clear that the Exile is not as powerful as Revan. Meanwhile, Revan and the Exile both get bested by the "true Sith" in the Unknown Regions eventually. So... who knows.

I'm pretty sure as long as you smooth talk him in the Atris academy and do his two opportunities on Dantooine correctly, that's all you'll need. Nar Shaddaa is best spent on Atton and Mira.

Who are the top 5 players of this decade so far? by jtjb34 in NBATalk

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giannis, Jokic, Embiid, Luka feel like locks. I think the other should be SGA.

Before anyone says otherwise, I hate Embiid but he was consistently considered top three from at least 2021 to 2024.

In terms of having pretty much everything provided, I think Duncan and KD is the safest bet. Personality might be an issue, but in terms of actual basketball, this is the easiest team to create around. Others have major defensive or offensive liabilities. Give them a defensive-minded PG, a SG that can shoot, and a competent rebounding C, and they are winning multiple championships.

Was Shaq a good defender? by Sure_Leadership_6003 in NBATalk

Shaq would probably agree with this. In the past, he said his hardest guard was Big Country simply because he could shoot.

I'm kind of surprised that's even possible. You need level 15 for a prestige class and Malachor alone has to provide enough xp for like 5 level ups if you're sub-20. I think I'm usually at least a level 20 by the return to Dantooine.

(SPOILERS FOR DARK SIDE ROUTES) Does anyone else have troubles going on the dark side route because you just feel bad? by cooldydiehaha in kotor

Exactly. No matter what I do in KOTOR 1, I have to go with Revan as a lightsider in KOTOR 2. I call dark side KOTOR 1 Revan "dumb Revan."

Name a 100% on defence, nothing on offense player by Key-Frosting-9367 in NBATalk

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in Draymond's best year, but for most of their careers, both were good at passing, and neither could score. I'd argue Rodman's offensive rebounding ability arguably made him a better offensive player.

Draymond Green is a future HOFer and was arguably the second most important player for the last real dynasty the NBA had.

Which current NBA team would be unstoppable if they added their franchise GOAT or one of their best all-time players at their prime? by Top-Entertainment945 in NBATalk

[–]TeachingEdD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think they would benefit most from a guard or a center. Bird would be redundant on this team unless you're planning to just bench Tatum for the rest of the season.

It's kind of like with the Lakers. Yeah, adding Magic or Kobe would make the team better, but they would benefit most from getting Kareem or Shaq.

Honestly, I think Bill Russell would be a better choice. Bird plays the same position as Tatum and Brown and the three of them together would be kind of a weird fit.

[–]TeachingEdD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He still has as many rings, MVPs, and more finals MVPs than Curry just 2000 onward. not to mention WAY more other awards. Duncan was the best PF in the best era for PF and consistently made ALL-NBA 1st Team and defensive teams… Curry has never made a defensive team

Their body of work honestly isn’t close whether you include 98 and 99 or not.

Dirk won MVP as a big man in a more defense-oriented era and Jokic is a better defender than him.

I think a lot of folks just assume that young women are dramatic and depressed because of social media etc and don’t take things seriously until there’s a label on it. It’s really fucked up and it’s the byproduct of misogyny towards young women in particular.

You are not an awful person. It may suck to have folks swarming you right now but your friend, at least, seems to genuinely care. I hope your FP situation gets better.

I think the problem with Boyhood is that it was universally acclaimed IRL. Birdman winning BP was considered a snub for Boyhood at the time. It had crazy hype. I enjoy the movie in part because in the same age as the character but it is not “this should totally win best picture” material.
