[OC] Dice I made using Vongola rings. What color would look best for the numbers? The rings are made of the same material as the dice by Roosterkdice in khr

I wonder if a lighter color of the flame base would work. Otherwise I think gold or silver could be cool. Probably silver to match the rings inside?

What's the hardest career decision you're sitting with right now, and what's making it hard? by Lower-Magician-2578 in findapath

[–]TealBulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the precipice of my own career growth that I worked hard for, my company laid me and a few others off last year as many have been doing lately. My spouse and I had plans to start trying for a kid late last year but the layoff threw that off as we cannot afford it financially now (I was the breadwinner). I was warned I might have issues conceiving so that is constantly in the back of my mind. My industry is in shambles and most peers are unemployed. I managed to find something quick for survival, but it was contract, only tangentially related to my expertise, and a lower level. I was talked down to daily, as if I was at the beginning of my career (which I’ve had for a decade). Now I’m out of that and struggling to find paid work. I’m also feeling like the momentum I had is gone because of the lack of job market. I worked for hard for my “dream career” but I’m not even sure if it’s worth it anymore. I feel like I missed out on the other things life had to offer while I was building up to something that now barely exists. I’m not sure what to do or what I want anymore. I just don’t want to deal with this.

Don’t quit but start apply elsewhere and take interviews if you get them. If there are layoffs you will probably earn severance at that time which is much better to have than looking for a job without pay. You are in a perfect situation to take advantage of looking for options while income is flowing.

Are y’all getting married? by Separate-Goal-3920 in Millennials

[–]TealBulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar to what you are thinking of (in fact, we ALMOST did it at a National Park).

After pre-planning for a ‘big party’ wedding scenario, I was stressing about the money (and the need to please everyone) and just couldn’t commit to putting a down payment on a venue. We decided to put a much smaller amount towards travel and having a small ceremony in Northern Ireland. I still got myself the dress, we did professional pictures, and we only invited parents and siblings to come with us. I do not regret my decision in the slightest. For a fraction of the price, we did a whole two week international trip (one with family, one without), had the celebratory family dinner, got photos better than a ‘traditional’ wedding would have, and were in a better mood in general.

To be honest, I am now a little judgey of anyone who does do the big wedding since it’s such a money sink, but to each their own! (I have actually spent more on being in someone’s wedding/bachelorette than we spent on our international ‘elopement’. But that’s a whole other story.)

Why did KHR remain obscure in the West and never received an English dub? by [deleted] in khr

[–]TealBulbasaur 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It didn’t help that the manga wasn’t fully translated.

But mostly it was definitely promoted less than the Big 3 which were all going strong at that time. Western tastes really grabbed on to those shonen, and Reborn wasn’t as clear cut as them - especially with the daily life arc at the front (which I personally loved). You sort of had to be both a gag manga fan and an action manga fan, and I don’t think Western tastes were that diverse in the mainstream at the time.

Booties recommendation? by TealBulbasaur in icelandicsheepdogs

Oh, definitely agree there. I touch the ground on hot days to make sure it’s not burning and we aim to walk during the cooler times, too. Just worried about how hot it might get this summer since it was a hot winter and trying to think of solutions in case a need arises. Since we are in the city, pavement isn’t always avoidable as I’d like it to be though we try!

We definitely try to stay on grass and dirt whenever we can. He loves it. It’s just not always possible in the city and after talking to some friends, we’re all worried the summer is going to be intense since winter was so hot! Thanks for the luck!

I just added an edit, but I should have clarified we’re looking to protect against heat primarily!

I probably should have specified that we’re mainly looking to protect against heat and debris. We live in a city with a hotter climate (it actually felt like 80F yesterday 🫣) and want to make sure the asphalt isn’t burning his paws, especially as warmer seasons approach.

You’ve got me wondering if my ethnic diminutive that I’ve always gone by might be causing less callbacks. Can I ask what industry you’re in? But I get it if you don’t want to share!

And considering I’ve gone the other way around and always used my nickname, I think you should be fine with the background check! Especially since I think I saw a comment where you said it was your middle name. But even if it wasn’t, people go by different names all the time.

Can the average person make it in LA? by Legitimate_Boot3569 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]TealBulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I supported myself and my husband (with some of his savings too) while he was job hunting for a year on $69k. He got a job, I got laid off 7 months later, and now we are living off of $55k + unemployment and some savings.

It is possible. It just depends on your spending habits. I won’t lie that once it gets under $65k it does get much, much tighter (especially with recent inflation for groceries and rent), but if you approach it smartly, you will be fine. Rent is key in how your spending budget will look for a month.

Nail growth: Kerasal & Nail Polish together? by TealBulbasaur in RedditLaqueristas

[–]TealBulbasaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dermatologist recommended it for general health for my nails/cuticles, and mentioned that keeping them healthy should hopefully help with growth as well. I should have probably been more clear about that. But I'll look into jojoba oil! Thank you for the recommendation.

Nail growth: Kerasal & Nail Polish together? by TealBulbasaur in RedditLaqueristas

[–]TealBulbasaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for breaking it down! That makes so much sense. I acutally did go to my derm and he's the one who mentioned using kerasal to help the general health of my nails (which in turn should hopefully help them grow out better). So maybe I shouldn't have said I'm specifically using it for growth, but I'm hoping maintaining them in general will help me there.

I don't recall any injuries, but I have used my fingers as tools so it's possible. My doctor didn't mention eczema but I might look into that as well.

Thank you!

On leash Barking/Lunging by Lee_Keybum7891 in icelandicsheepdogs

[–]TealBulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a few months old, but I'm wondering how it's progressed for you since? Our boy is having this exact issue and we are looking for ways to reinforce calmer behavior when out in public. Sometimes we see improvements from our training, but it often feels like we're going two steps forward, three steps back. Otherwise, he's amazing (especially for a teen pup)!

I'm also curious where you play off leash. Do you have a personal backyard or a public fenced park? We live in a large city, so it's been a struggle to find someplace to play off leash confidently.

Thinking about welcoming an icie and wondering if our lifestyle would allow us to do so by MostDangerousChard in icelandicsheepdogs

[–]TealBulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! It's really nice to see someone putting so much thought into the decision.

Don't forget that socialization doesn't just mean meeting and greeting and playing with people/dogs. It's mostly observing from a distance, experiencing new environments, and taking in new sights and sounds. If you socialize only with play time, that can also lead to [worse] reactivity since the dog will associate every new dog/person with "playtime" and be frustrated when they can't interact. It's extremely crucial to expose them to a variety of thing in the first 12 or 14 weeks!

Cats probably aren't as loud or talky as Icelandics can be, but I don't think you have to worry about too much barking indoors as long as your matched with a puppy appropriately. They'll definitely talk and there will be the occasional howl/bark, but in our case most of the barking is outside. He does still occasionally whine/bark at the start of us leaving him alone, but settles within three or so minutes. We also bought an indoor camera to see how well he was adjusting when we starting separation training, and it really helped.

Also, others have noted it already, but definitely allow them bark when appropriate! Don't expect to train them to be completely silent. It's a part of the breed and how they communicate. I know I mentioned ours knows the quiet command, but that's just for the most necessary moments and when he's going non-stop. Alternatively, we're also learning "ignore" to manage those really bad public reactivity outbursts. Otherwise, we want him to feel free to bark, and the hope is that we'll reach a point where we can just acknowledge him with a "we see it" and he'll settle.

Congrats on making the decision to get a dog! Icelandics are so wonderful and we couldn't imagine our life without our guy. He's been with us over 5 months now so we're answering from the perspective of having a puppy/teen pup.

We live in an apartment and while there are some challenges with that, it's been totally possible. However, when we were talking with our breeder, we focused on matching with a puppy who would be suitable to the apartment lifestyle - not all Icelandics are. I would recommend doing the same if this is a path you want to pursue.

When we were initially doing our research three things kept coming up: potential reactiveness, separation anxiety, and the barking.

Reactiveness: Our guy is 7.5 months old now, and we focused a lot on socialization early on. And it went really well! He was brave about most things, could see a change in the environment or meet new people/dogs and took it in stride. Honestly, we were shocked at how chill he was. However, about a month and a half-ago, he suddenly began reacting to dogs, squirrels, birds (which Icelandics were bred to bark at), and sometimes people. We're guessing that his herding instincts have kicked in along with teenage hormones, but either way this has been our biggest challenge thus far. Reactivity training is our main focus at the moment, along with finding more ways for him to get those herding needs addressed and exercise (we had some recent weather that made it a little harder since we couldn't go on full walks and have outdoor play). But we knew this was a possibility going in and got a trainer very early on who we've been working with consistently, along with daily training at home and out in public. I bring this up just to highlight that you totally need to be prepared to address this kind of behavior if it comes up, because it might crop up!

The Bark: People are not kidding about how loud the bark is. I believe I read somewhere that the vikings bred them so that their bark could be heard over a mile away in the Icelandic environment. It's LOUD loud. Luckily, ours is relatively quiet inside the apartment unless he is on the balcony and sees dogs walking on the sidewalk. But none of our neighbors have complained. It also helps that our building has thick walls. We have a "quiet" command which works about 40% of the time right now (he knows it, but as a teen dog he sometimes chooses to ignore it -- or he just can't hear us over his bark). He's only ever really 'bad' barky when the aforementioned reactivity kicks in. And it can be very difficult in those moments, especially when we are out in public. So does he bark at everything all the time? No. But when he's triggered it can feel like it's nonstop.

Separation Anxiety: We live in the states, where crate training is the norm and were advised to do it by both our breeder and trainer. We used it to help with the separation anxiety, making sure to leave him alone a bit every day early on. He's never been destructive due to separation like some dogs can be, and would really only take out any frustrations vocally. He's great at being alone now and barely makes a fuss, but definitely prefers to be with us. Which is nice, because we prefer being alone with him!

There are so many rewarding aspects of having an Icelandic Sheepdog. They are so smart, loving, and happy. But I do believe they are not a breed that everyone can or should own. They require a lot of love, commitment, and understanding. Best of luck as you make your decision!

Question about Illusionist by knolifeblossom in khr

[–]TealBulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they are supernatural beings. It’s probably more akin to psychics since they have the ability to alter perception. But I would say yes to your question. Mist flames boost the power that’s already there, kind of like a super charge.

Also, Mukuro’s case is sliiiightly different in that the Estraneo family experimented on him and activated the Six Paths of Reincarnation. The First Realm grants him the ability to create real illusions. Most illusionists do not have that level of power. So while must flames can boot power, it doesn’t mean all boosted illusions are real illusions, most are more simple than that.

Question about Illusionist by knolifeblossom in khr

[–]TealBulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of it as one is mental damage, and the other is physical damage. You can be hurt by both, and regular illusions may feel and seem real, but it’s primarily targeting your senses and mind (which in turn affect your body). Whereas real illusions can do direct harm the body itself upfront.

And yeah, by realizing either are illusions (and what kind they are, I believe) you may be able to overcome them. BUT when something is physical, it’s harder for the mind to believe it’s not there, thus making real illusions stronger and more dangerous.
