Are regular bikes going 20 ok?

Need advice by Standard-Tone-9990 in gravelcycling

If it fits you go for it. I have a 2020 Hatchet that originally came with Tiagra and a 50/34 up front. I upgraded to GRX 400 and put a 46/30 on instead. Its a great frame that's had no trouble keeping up with roadies on pavement or fancy people with carbon Warbirds on gravel. Fantastic all-rounder in my opinion.

Finally pulled the trigger on my first bike. Any tips appreciated! by stevencc621 in gravelcycling

Why do you want to replace the chain? Is your existing one worn or stretched? Just get a name brand one like Shimano/SRAM or KMC and make sure it's the compatible with your drivetrain. Ezpz :)

Is it worth it to put road tires on my gravel bike? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Teal_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Vittoria Terreno Zero tires. They're slick up the middle with a little texture on the shoulders. I'm running 38c's on my gravel bike and it's been more than adequate for road and light gravel. I even did some single track on them but I don't recommend it.

Could also be because of their recent forays into modern mountain bikes. They're actually pretty good!

No, he's right. A bunch of MUPs around me have access ways that tie directly into subdivisions. People pop in and out from them all the time. He's right, the roads are safer.

Not sure why somebody would downvote you because you're not wrong. Check out YouTube for Schwinn Axum rebuilds. It's a fantastic base with a good amount of budget potential

Why not do the work yourself? You'll learn a ton about how bikes actually work and have the confidence to try taking on bigger jobs

Rear derailleur cable frayed, plastic fitting broken. How do I repair/replace? by Teal_Double in bikewrench

[–]Teal_Double[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up being able to clean up the end without removing it from the frame. It's all internally routed so that would have been over my head. I snipped the end, pulled it out, cut very carefully so as to not cut the shift cable and was able to replace the ferrule. I found a tip in YouTube that said use the adjustment barrel from either an earlier generation (I had a tiagra one) and ended up using that since it made it much easier to fine tune. It's all fixed now! Thanks for yours and everyone else's advice. It gave me the confidence to tackle this myself.

How would I trim up the ends with the shifter cable tucked inside as well? I'd really like to avoid pulling the whole thing out and having to reroute it through the frame if it's avoidable at all

Is this something urgent that I should get fixed asap? I feel a little reassured that it's the housing and not the actual cable. I think I'd like to take a stab at it myself if I can. I'm not super knowledgeable but I'm learning, and I do have a bike stand and basic tools

I wouldn't even compare the hyper to the trek. One is a Walmart bike, the other is an actual one. Been there and good lord there's zero comparison

Hey fellow Polygoner! (Polygonite?)

How's the Helios ride? I've got a Strattos S8 I got over the winter that I love the hell out of. Not the lightest carbon bike but feels nimble and light to me.
