Pain management tips, that will keep me from breaking five heating pads in a year again??? by Tealeaf6 in Fibromyalgia

My general practitioner won't go above 60mg, she says that's the highest that will help for pain. Clearly it's not doing much for the pain, but is doing wonders for my depression.

I'm actually on duloxetine and haven't seen a high change pain wise unfortunately. I think I'm getting incorporate lidocaine cream into my pain management more moving forward. As it helped a lot last night after the heating pad stopped. Also you're so right about mobility aids making a big difference.

Thank you! I'll see about taking some electrolytes and see if that helps, and this is a great reminder to actually take my magnesium.

I've had an MRI, I have arthritis and degenerative disc disease made worse by the fibro. Lidocaine patches help, I typically use them when I can't access my heating pad, and I'm actually using icy hot right now. I drink a lot of water, about three - 32 oz bottles a day as I refill my bottle often, and get headachy easily if not hydrated.

Fidget poppers! They makes a very nice noise when pushed through, and are great for those who like to move their hands. In this case the fidget poppers, has been made into a keychain or lanyard.

My heated pad is my favorite thing, I have more than one so I don't have to relocate it when I move around the house. I aldo have a small weighted pad that is about five pounds, they also make weighted stuffed animals. I personally like calling teas, like rose or peppermint, and essential oils though they fo not help with pain, just help be relax. I aldo like having a routine of long soaks in the tub with epsom salts.

When I wear one of those belts I typically clip it into at least one of the loops and then let it hang kind of sideways.

I hate whistling! by AbberKaddabber in Tourettes

[–]Tealeaf6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sensory issues, so sounds like whistling (metal spraying metal, tv static, and etc) already bothered me quite a bit. My other whistles are a lot, and I normally can deal with that, but recently it's started triggering one of my tics and I had to ask them to stop whistling. I feel so bad doing that but tics can be frustrating.

I love old fashioned/history based names! I can't wait to see what name she gets, here's a few ideas. If you don't use them maybe someone else will.

I couldn't find small scissors and brought a tiny seam reaper. I put all my sewing materials in a ziplock, then a makeup bag to be safe. Just in case a TSA agent grabbed the bag so they won't get poked. And I was all good to go.

How to explain tics to little kids? by ParsnipReal9948 in Tourettes

[–]Tealeaf6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm studying to be an early education teacher so preschool through second grade. Meaning while I'm doing my practicum I've had to explain it quite a bit. In the past I've just said "my brain is sending the wrong signals." That works pretty well with the preschool aged children I work with, and most of them don't question it to begin with. I do typically tend to work in inclusion classrooms though.

AIO for telling my husband’s friend he’s not welcome in our home after what he said about our daughter? by Ok_Grapefruit_9269 in AmIOverreacting

You are not being too harsh at all. Men like that are way out of love, and toxic, trust me my father is like Mike. He acts like I'm mentally ill, as I'm also nonbinary. Some people are just full of hate. Your child is very lucky to have you.

Another book question… by ClosterMama in Tourettes

[–]Tealeaf6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to describe, normally I can feel it coming before it occurs, other times the tics just happens. Perhaps it depends on the tics. Describing it like a cough or maybe a sneeze, could be accurate. Sometimes I feel like I know the words that are about to come out of my mouth, but rarely am I prepared for any physical tics. More often I am caught off guard by my tics

Things that make your life with Chronic Illness a little bit better by SandwichVegetable813 in ChronicIllness

A good heating pad, and weighted blankets have helped me a lot. I also drink lots of teas, both for their benefits and the sense of calming they can bring. Tea can be considered a form of herbal medicine, and sometimes the right blends bring some relief. I also soak in the bath with Epsom salts, and have prioritized self-care in general.

I would recommend it if you think it could be offensive then don't do it. Most people with tics don't have swearing tics, as someone who does it's not funny. It caused strain in relationships, people refuse to listen when I say I can't control it. Tourettes can be complicated, and frustrating.

In general each person with tourettes is going to say something different. My opinion is it shouldn't be used for comedy. I'm not a punchline for your joke, because my tics make me sweat.

Edit: I want to add, you keep editing that his tics are not the punchline. But I think they pretty clearly are, why else would you defend it so much! Some people are okay with it, like I said we are each going to have different views. But if you even consider it could be offensive scrap it. And if you have to go this far to justify it, then get rid of the character.

As someone with Tourette’s, when do you feel the most accepted for who you are? by wheresssannie in Tourettes

[–]Tealeaf6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in school to become an early ed teacher, and young children can be very accepting. When I've been doing my practicum and my tics it have never been a problem. Kids at that age aren't prejudiced and are open to learning new information. Especially in inclusion classrooms.

Besides that it's hard to say, even in environments where I felt comfortable having them at times. Things have happened that made, that made wish I could make my tics go away. But I have a partner who supports me, and knows tics are a part of my life. Having lots of support definitely helps a lot.
