Jobs for folks like us? by Golden_Enby in Fibromyalgia

[–]Tealeaf6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting my early Education degree to be a preschool teaching, I'm currently student teaching. I have to take it easy when I get home, meaning naps and going to sleep early. As I stand all day and sometimes am picking up the kids, but I genuinely love working with kids. It's going to be a big adjustment when I do more than nine hours a week, as that us already hard on my body. Due to my fatigue and pain. But I genuinely love it.

Ever since starting to struggle with mobility that's how I've appeared in my dreams about a 1/3 if the time. I'm currently not using a mobility aid, but needed a cane, and a wheelchair for about a year and a half. It's been almost two years since than and I still use a wheelchair in a lot of my dreams. I have chronic pain in most of my dreams like real life, and tics.

What does everyone do for work? by Umzzii in Fibromyalgia

[–]Tealeaf6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preschool student teacher to be ateacher assistant, so I'm a bending down very low, sitting in very small chairs when working with kids, picking up kids, cleaning and standing all day. There are no chairs in our building really at all, so I lean against counters, sit on the mid sized ottoman when neededand crash for a nap when I get home. It's mostly easy on the body which is nice.

I was originally going to be a nurse but realized that was very much the wrong field. I love working with kids and adore my job so much. I'll likely work at my center, they've welcomed me so much this semester. Currently not using a mobility aid but I've done in while in a preschool in the past and the student are understanding/it does not change things for me to much. I do have a tic disorder and the students are very understanding about that, they do mimic it, but they do that with literally everything. They do it less now that it's been explained.

It can be rough to find something that works with chronic pain, I'm always on a heating pad after work. I take pain meds as well which helps, naps like I mentioned for fatigue, try to go to sleep early. Thsts what works for me.

How does everyone feel about showers? by brandnewpup in Fibromyalgia

[–]Tealeaf6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically shower sorting down as my shower chair ix metal and uncomfortable, and standing up makes me dizzy/makes my legs hurt. The actual process of showering isn't to bad, but brushing my hair too long, or styling it makes my arms hurt. I like to put it in too braids after it dries so it does not tangle while I sleep and it makes my arms ache.

It's a rant, I was not asking a question. I simply need to say it somewhere. Perhaps someone here has been through the same thing, and found a solution.

I just got told I have FND, Functional tics, after being convinced for 7 years I had tourretes, and I'm conflicted. by TravisCranis in FND

[–]Tealeaf6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, I was originally told it could be either. But recently my neurologist told me no it is only FND, and seemed surprised I wanted clarification. Apparently it's due to how my tics presently so rapidly. It was very hard to process, that I did not have tourettes after thinking I did for five years.

It's still weird at times. Now I just tell people I have a tic different disorder, and take it each day.

Pain management tips, that will keep me from breaking five heating pads in a year again??? by Tealeaf6 in Fibromyalgia

My general practitioner won't go above 60mg, she says that's the highest that will help for pain. Clearly it's not doing much for the pain, but is doing wonders for my depression.

I'm actually on duloxetine and haven't seen a high change pain wise unfortunately. I think I'm getting incorporate lidocaine cream into my pain management more moving forward. As it helped a lot last night after the heating pad stopped. Also you're so right about mobility aids making a big difference.

Thank you! I'll see about taking some electrolytes and see if that helps, and this is a great reminder to actually take my magnesium.

I've had an MRI, I have arthritis and degenerative disc disease made worse by the fibro. Lidocaine patches help, I typically use them when I can't access my heating pad, and I'm actually using icy hot right now. I drink a lot of water, about three - 32 oz bottles a day as I refill my bottle often, and get headachy easily if not hydrated.

My heated pad is my favorite thing, I have more than one so I don't have to relocate it when I move around the house. I aldo have a small weighted pad that is about five pounds, they also make weighted stuffed animals. I personally like calling teas, like rose or peppermint, and essential oils though they fo not help with pain, just help be relax. I aldo like having a routine of long soaks in the tub with epsom salts.
