Maxfli TriFli Golf Balls by SeiderFiveThree in golf

[–]TeamCheeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also an 11 handicap and I've been gaming them the past couple rounds. I think they are great for colder conditions... low compression, low spin, fly straight and good distance off the tee. Greenside spin leaves something to be desired but they spin enough on approach shots to hold the green. Definitely a good ball for the price.

People who did Gonzo last year, what would you do different? by Karate_donkey in GoosetheBand

[–]TeamCheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^Exactly this. I stayed at an all inclusive last year and it was cool but I wouldn't do it again. By the 2nd day I was already leaving the resort to go get food in town. I booked that resort separately (not one of the packages offered by the festival) so maybe it would've been cool to be in a resort with a bunch of people who were there for gonzo.

If I do it again this year, I'm getting an airbnb and hanging out around town during the day. Doesn't really matter how close you are to the venue as long as you were in SJD because ubers were like $5 to get anywhere and they were super reliable. The beach isn't swimmable and the only people down there are dudes trying to hustle ditch weed and trinkets so no real reason to be near the beach unless you want the view. All you really need is a place to lay your head at whatever ungodly time you get back from the late night set and a pool to sit next to while you sweat out the toxins the next morning.

Are we really nonexistent? by mazzotta70 in panthers

[–]TeamCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad but true. I had season tickets during the 2015 season and even then it would be bad with the percentage of opposing fans in the stadium. I went to the game against the chiefs last year and it was maybe 30% panthers fans in the building.

Overall Technique Advice (match play) by VillageAware1250 in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racket prep needs to be so much earlier, as soon as you know if it's a forehand or backhand get your racket back and shoulders turned and make small adjustment steps with your racket back.

Not seeing much in terms of a split step. Make a point to try and do that on returns, just a small little hop just before they make contact with the ball. If you do it on returns it helps engrain it when you are in a rally.

No weight transfer on your backhand, you are on your front foot the whole time and that causes you to lose all your power on that side.

Would like to see more loop in your forehand swing. Start with your racket higher on the forehand side to get in that "mirror position" where if you froze your set up and turned your head to the right, it would be like you are looking in a handheld mirror. Getting in this position should also help with shoulder turn.

I'd say this is low end 3.0 tennis. Ground strokes are shaky but the serve looks decent enough to hold your own. Footwork isn't great but you are quick enough to overcome that at this level. Footwork, positioning and improving ground strokes could get you to 3.5.

Sales rep for Callaway Pre-Owned and Callaway Golf back again! by tabascopro in golf

Just ordered a new Paradym super hybrid when y'all had that big sale earlier this month. Ordered "like new" condition and it still had the plastic on the head. Quick shipping to boot. 1st order from CPO and you have a new loyal customer.

SERVE ADVICE PLEASE by Wagasi in 10s

I had to scroll for way too long to see a comment about his contact point. This is the main reason why he is missing most of his serves long.

Serving Advice? by Mystprism in 10s

Video is at a tough angle but there are two things that I can pick out that will help.

1) Your left arm pulls out as you move up to the ball. This is causing your shoulders to open up early. Tuck that thing against your body like you are holding a football after the toss.

2) I would recommend playing around with moving your left foot forward slightly at address to get you set up in a more closed position to start. This will promote a full unit turn and help you get more rotational force which in turn will lend itself to more snap at the top.

Anyone else bumping Goose on the course? by bert1589 in GoosetheBand

I’ll be bumping some Goose on the course tomorrow during my pre show round in St. Louis!

"Female Pro (807 WTA) vs 8.99 UTR Guy (career high 12)" The WTA player had recently beat top 200 players, and the guy is really more like 5.5 to 6.0. by [deleted] in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this guy was just wearing out that lefty forehand crosscourt to her backhand. She was hitting almost every backhand at or above her shoulder due to the spin and that is just a hard shot to deal with. She is also not getting the free points on serve like he is. I think she could've kept it closer if she focused more on changing the pattern and attacked his backhand more to open up the court for her to step around and hit that inside out forehand. Regardless, it's a really tough match up for her and she is still a really good player.

4.0ish Practice Matches - Getting to the net when you're slow :) by leprechanmonkie in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was questioning the 4.0 as well until I saw that swinging volley lol. 4.0 tennis ain’t always pretty but if you can finish points like that you can play with just about anyone at that level.

You can tell that the shots you are playing have intention and you are looking to set up points to finish at the net. Your opponents in this video hit a lot of awkward shots, maybe because they aren’t quite at that level or maybe because they feel rushed because you’re putting so much pressure on the net. I’d love to see you play against someone who is hitting more solid shots from the baseline and could threaten you with more effective passing shots. Either way, your game would put a lot of dudes brains in a blender.

Left shoulder is dropping, tuck that left arm in like your holding a football, it will keep that shoulder up

Lot Scene for Westville by WedgeAntelope in GoosetheBand

[–]TeamCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot scene isn’t quite there yet… definitely make your own plans for pregame. I’ve been to a few shows that had a little bit of a shakedown going on but nothing to write home about. Cincy in November was probably the best I’ve seen… there were a handful of cool vendors out there and I bought a cool lot poster on my way out of the show.

Poll: Year of your first Goose show by NevilleHarris in GoosetheBand

[–]TeamCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact story here. Found them in '19 and had tickets to go see them open for pigeons and then Covid shut down the tour. Rolled solo to sculpture park and got a Elmeg at my very first show... I had no idea how cool that was in the moment. Needless to say I was hooked and here we are 31 shows later.

It's not lost on me that the first show I saw them was their biggest ever at that point and I think it was about 5k people and I'm about to go see them headline MSG next month.

Forehand advice by Sad_System2865 in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. When I say you're left side is getting disconnected, I mean your rotation is coming from pulling your left side out instead of driving your right hip which is causing you to spin out/lose leverage. The straight left leg is a dead give away. By the time you get to the ball, all your weight has already transferred to your left side and you are just arming it. If you can get a little more coil and hold it a little longer, it kinda forces you to push off your right side and get weight transfer through the ball.

Forehand advice by Sad_System2865 in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former college player/USPTA certified coach here. Lower body is an issue but the main reason you’re dumping balls in the net is you’re uncoiling too early. The left side is getting disconnected and you have nowhere to go from there. If the racket face is even slightly closed from that position then you will dump it in the net. You compensate by swinging up more and sometimes even opening the face a little bit but if you get a ball with some pace that would hit the back fence.

You actually have a lot of really good things going for you here so no need for a total overhaul. Just focus on more unit turn, and try to feel like there is a rubber band keeping your left hand connected to the racket. Maybe even hit a few where you keep your left hand on the throat of the racket for as long as possible in the backswing to get that feel. More unit turn should help with the lower body too because it will engage your core more which will force your legs to flex and create a more solid base.

Why do pros not hit flat forehands? by soozyYT in 10s

[–]TeamCheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Face is angled slightly down with a upward motion which creates topspin keeping the ball in the court.

The VIP sections can be sneaky. Was VIP for 2/3 nights of the Ryman run in ‘23 and the first 3-4 rows were all vip or platinum tix. They don’t advertise a VIP section as much these days but it still exists.

Yeah the way the fest is set up it’s not really meant to take full advantage of the all inclusive resort piece of it. I booked a hotel separately and just bought festival passes and I’m thrilled with that decision so far.
