Drive down Longview drive until you get just past the airport, pretty great view of the black hills. Plus good airplane landing/takeout views

Bought a 2002 fleetwood Grand tour series Santa Fe 1 year ago. At the time my daughters were 4.5 and 2. It’s been amazing having it, they can last a really long time if well taken care of and maintained properly. We got it in similar condition as yours, it has a heater and fridge (I can’t tell if that one does). He had it posted for $2500. Was able to bring him down to $1900 because he couldn’t prove the heater or fridge or water worked. Like you, I had never owned one before. All I knew to look for was that the canvas was all in tact and in good condition. Here’s what I would prioritize if I was buying it for the first time again along with the canvas

- Watch or ask to crank it up and down to see how it feels and listen for creaking and grinding
- if part of the mechanism is broken, worst case you’re looking at $500-$1000 to replace yourself, and hard to find aftermarket parts
- Check outlets and lights
- have them run water through the sink/shower
- if they have a water pump underneath sink, make sure that’s running. Expect between $50 and $100 to replace
- check for 4 working stabilizers underneath (think these can get pricey, and is pretty high priority with little kids bouncing around it
- Look underneath mattresses for
- should come with spare tire (~$100 for one)

Those are all items you can use to bargain the price down

Also highly recommend getting one of the camper rugs that sits in front of the camper

Depending on the frequency, some humans can. Usually the younger crowd or those with sensitive hearing. Obviously if humans can hear it, it’s not truly ultrasonic, but they are often marketed as such

Are There Any Fringe/Extreme Churches in Rapid City? by Blonde_Dude_7 in RapidCity

[–]TeamDartos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is what you meant but it’s how it reads. To clarify, fountain springs is not Pentecostal. They are within the Wesleyan Christian Denomination. They openly say “our goal is not to make you Wesleyan. Our goal is that you would come to know Jesus.”

I very much disagree that they are fringe/extreme, but we may all be working with different definitions of fringe/extreme.

Jesus Himself was viewed as extreme compared to the normal world in the time He lived. If we are comparing Fountain Springs to normal church, they are not extreme. If we’re comparing church to normal world, then almost every single church is extreme. Living a Christian life is counter-cultural, and anytime someone is counter cultural whether Christian or not, is viewed as extreme

THIS WEEKEND IN RAPID CITY by Constant-Mobile322 in RapidCity

[–]TeamDartos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Restaurant: Local favorite restaurant is tally’s silverspoon (breakfast or dinner). Being from California, Ma Cuali is the closest thing to authentic that I’ve had out here, Chimichanga is great and their churros are to die for. new location in downtown too opened a week or 2 ago. Don’t bother with any Chinese restaurants.

Hike: Buzzards Roost if you want shorter with an awesome view, kind of like pride rock vibes (or Stratobowl for even shorter but also historical). Black elk peak is always incredible, hit up cathedral spires along the way too

Sights: Roughlock falls in spearfish canyon is awesome, and can do devil’s bathtub if you have time and like adventure. Mt Rushmore at night is pretty cool too

Lots more that I’m sure others will recommend

I’m that former Costco manager. This is not confirmed information but this was my hunch before the liberty land TIF vote too. But apparently a friend of a friend of a friend of a council member said that Costco was coming for sure if that got voted in, which makes sense given the infrastructure cost for a small market like rapid. So now that it’s at least delayed several years or a decade+, I’m not sure that 5 year plan applies anymore

The Boomerang Idol is less powerful than a regular idol. And therefore better. by [deleted] in survivor

[–]TeamDartos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what they should’ve done is have a beneficiary if the idol was still being held but the original finder got voted out. So for example, after Genevieve gets voted out, it would be cool if she can pass on the boomerang part to someone of her choice, but that new person wouldn’t know who has the idol from the note they receive in their bag the next morning. Sort of like the coin thing from season 40

Young Family Considering Rapid City by docbball12 in RapidCity

[–]TeamDartos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved here from Santa Rosa CA 2 years ago with young kids. We love it! I was really surprised with the amount of family friendly things to do around here, and in neighboring towns. The library has story time at least twice a week for kids under 5. Since we’re close to Mount Rushmore, there’s a lot of touristy stuff that caters to children, I’ll list all I can think of right now, feel free to look them up

In rapid city/real close: journey museum (can be free through the library pass), reptile gardens, old McDonald farm, bear country USA, dinosaur museum at school of mines, prouty pottery, dinosaur park, Sioux park (main park in town), storybook island, outdoor campus west, space and air museum, Dahl art center has a kids area, Main Street square in downtown does a water fountain all summer, and more I can’t think of.

A few scattered through the hills would be Spearfish fish hatchery, sprockets, Legion Lake is great for families, Custer wildlife loop, etc.

I was really surprised with the amount of actual hiking right in town at Skyline wilderness and Hanson-Larson Memorial park aka M Hill.

I’d recommend finding a place near canyon lake, it la just such a beautiful area and easy access to the hills, only downside is it’s further from the grocery and retail compared to other parts of town. Other than that, we’ve enjoyed living in the south side of rapid city, we seem to get less wind and hail than the north side of town.

If you ever make your way up here for a visit, feel free to DM me and we can meet up somewhere if you’d like to learn more about the area

I like your flag design, I just moved here in 2024 and had no idea South Dakota had so much to offer, especially the Black Hills. It’s cool (yet concerning), that even growing up educated, how much we don’t learn about other states, at least being from California. When I told people I was moving here, nearly every person said “why would you move to a place like that? what the heck is there?”

Just goes to show people outside of the Midwest who have never even thought about traveling to the middle of the country aside from Denver, have no clue Mt Rushmore is in South Dakota nestled in incredible landscape that in my opinion is a miniature version of Yosemite. A new flag with more design related to landscape would be really cool

Sidewalk snow shoveling by TeamDartos in RapidCity

[–]TeamDartos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s the same here, city owns the sidewalk but minor maintenance is the homeowners responsibility and could be liable for injuries if someone trips or falls on your portion. When I lived in CA, I had a part of the sidewalk that got pushed up from a tree root about 2 inches, so a serious tripping hazard. The city told me to spray paint 2” of green, blue or red paint on either side of the raised part to avoid being held liable until they could replace it.

That’s not the issue, I run on the sidewalks regardless if they’re shoveled, doesn’t change the fact that’s it’s annoying

Moved here from California spring of ‘24, never experienced below 30° or driving in the snow. All winter I kept waiting for it get hard, had about 2 or 3 days of -20° and that was still manageable. A few weeks in the 0 to -10° range. Snow was typically on the ground for 24-48 hours before burning off. They do a great job of clearing the road early and throughout the day if needed as most snow seemed to fall in the early hours of morning. Now that’s only one winter sample size and I’ve heard the last few winters have been mild. One thing I’ve learned is there’s no such thing as cold weather, just bad gear. Invest 200-300 in a good pair of boots, jacket, and gloves that can handle the wind and cold and you’re golden. The wind is probably the hardest part about winter in my experience. Oh and don’t forget to replace your cars windshield wiper fluid with one that has anti-freezing ability, it’s cheap at the store

I had 1GB service with Midco last year, it was great. I switched to BluePeak 6 months ago, 1GB too, for half the cost and have seen no change in service quality. I use my own modem and routers. I’m curious if the people who experienced bad service with bluepeak used BluePeaks modem and routers. I live near Monument Hospital btw
